Newcastle winger James Milner has been sent been told to put his feet up by manager Kevin Keegan.

James Milner - told to put his feet up
The England Under-21 international missed Newcastle’s last nine games of the season, but still managed 32 appearances for the team.
He of course suffered a bad foot injury in the defeat at Liverpool at the beginning of March, just before Keegan moved to a 4-3-3 formation. James hasn’t had a break in the summer for three years.
But now James will have some time off until early July, and Kevin talked about the rising star to the Evening Chronicle today:
“In some ways this nine-game break, as difficult as it has been for James Milner, might have been the best thing.â€
“He’s played every season and every close season for the last three years.â€
“If you remember, I gave him a week off half-way through our bad run because I just felt he needed a break.â€
Sometimes, things that initially look bad, are indeed blessings in disguise, and it’s good that James will now get a nice long rest.
The Yorkshire lad is a good player, has a terrific character, and is already a model professional at only 22.
James will only get better under Kevin Keegan, and he will be all set to go and secure himself a first team place when he returns in early July.
Sounds good to us.
Comments welcome.

Love this players…he is one key player for us next season
2 Ausgeordie // May 13, 2008 at 14:03
Hope he does not leave…not yet. He gives as much as smith every game but has skill and potential. Worth keeping

i rate milner alot. he has an amazing engine in him and he laso wants to play for us and never causes a problem, even when he was dragged back from a deal with villa he did not say a single bad word. the guy gets my vote.

His attitude has always been class, but his delivery has always been poor.
I’d like him to stay but hopefully KK transforms him into a different kind of player like he did with Rob Lee. Maybe as an attacking central midfielder? Or fourth choice striker?
What do you reckon?

woooooo hooooooooooo

To choose now people. Strike partnership next season of Henry and SMith or don’t sign Henry and sell Smith to Boro..
My vote is CERTAINLY on the latter.

2nd option sounds good to me Ant

heard he was gonna leave at 3mil. BOLLOCKS! keep the lad i say a future england star imo.
9 Jack // May 13, 2008 at 14:47
I like him but I don’t think he will break into the England squad. Would love to be proved wrong though.
10 CRAIGG // May 13, 2008 at 16:01
Capello was going to include him in the preliminary squad with Wheater and Agbonlahor but he got injured the wek later.
Cannot wait for Jimmy to come back i did a bit of research a while back on his set pieces and crosses and last season milner made 18 goals and scored 5 which aint a bad record considering he cannot cross apparently, If JMs bad then Geremi is abysmal with the ball how has he got back in?
11 lonely toon army // May 13, 2008 at 16:05
milner is quality lad but he has no physique
12 Viper // May 13, 2008 at 16:09
He’s defo a good’un. Falls over (legitemely and rarely), gets knocked down, STRAIGHT back up. Definately a virtue others around the league let alone the Toon need to take on board!
Wants it, doesn’t seem to tire, if anything occasionally a little bit too unselfish, and aye as we know crossing not becham’esk. However, don’t flog him Kev, please. Do your magic and see how good he will become!
13 CRAIGG // May 13, 2008 at 16:10
He is a bit scrawny but did you see Big Al when he was at Southampton he looked like a starving refugee, but he was 24 when he moved to Blackburn and he had filled right out
14 CRAIGG // May 13, 2008 at 16:13
Beckham as much as i have been a fan for many years is hindering the England team at the minute we have some really talented young right wingers who should be in his place and would benefit from being in the main squad IE why Capello keeps naming 30 and cutting it down to 23.
Bentley
Wright-Phillips
Lennon
Milner
Walcott (Really as CF)
15 Tom_Toon // May 13, 2008 at 16:15
And Young. The best of them all.
16 CRAIGG // May 13, 2008 at 16:19
Yes but he is mostly played on the left where we also have
Joe Cole
Young
Downing
Sinclair
Portugal aint the only one to produce young talented wingers!
17 Tom_Toon // May 13, 2008 at 16:22
Joe Cole doesnt have a left foot (cut in all the times - whch gets sussed by international defenders quickly)
I personlly dont think you can compare many of those with:
Ronaldo
Quaresma
Nani
Simao
and recently Figo
18 CRAIGG // May 13, 2008 at 16:31
I wasnt comparing them but they are young and Talented any way how have portugal done so bad over the years with some of the players they produce same with spain
19 Tom_Toon // May 13, 2008 at 16:33
mentality. Portugal players and Spain players are always nervous at the first hurdle but (i.e. first rounds) but when they get over it they normally grow in confidence. That applies more to Portugal though.
20 CRAIGG // May 13, 2008 at 16:39
Portugals problem to me lies in the fact that you have some great wingers but shite CFs over the last 20 years weve had:
Beardsley
Lineker
Shearer
Sheringham
Owen
Rooney
Thats without
Ferdinand
Cole
Fowler
Wright
Dublin
Le Tissier
Phillips
All who havent made the grade at international level but have all scored loads at club level.
We are great up to Quarter finals and Semi finals then we fail to win matches we should get to penalties and the obvious happens
21 CRAIGG // May 13, 2008 at 16:49
Tom_Toon your country also has the dubious honour of being the only team Alan Smith scored against in Senior international Football!
22 Tom_Toon // May 13, 2008 at 16:51
That is shocking!
Nuno Gomes and Pauleta were both exceptional strikers for club and country in their day. But one has retired and the other is getting past it.
Sa Pinto was good for club but hes retired althogether from football now.
Almeida on his day is very good but not prolific, he only unsettles defences.
Postiga and Makukula are not good enough.
23 Leo // May 13, 2008 at 17:30
Joe Cole doesnt have a left foot (cut in all the times - whch gets sussed by international defenders quickly)
that comment tom toon was a bit stupid, get sussed by international defenders? does that mean only international defenders or does it mean every defender? because joe cole is a superb winger, a left winger doenst have to be left footed and a right winger doesnt have to be right footed
24 Tom_Toon // May 13, 2008 at 17:35
I know that, but he cuts in constantly, which is fairly easy to defend. He cant cross with his left foot. Point in playing him on the left? None.
He is best attacking through the centre IMO.
25 Otter // May 13, 2008 at 18:17
If you succeed on the wing, you’re a good winger.
Ronaldinho is a left winger with a left foot weaker than Joe Cole. Messi is a right winger with almost no right foot. Strangely, they play constantly against international defenders who haven’t been able to suss anything out.
On our right wing, Milner has weaknesses, but he’s obviously a keeper. Geremi has strengths, but he’s obviously not.
26 CRAIGG // May 13, 2008 at 18:22
Figo was hopelessly right-footed as well and no-one seemed to notice when he played on the left he always cut inside.
27 Alex // May 13, 2008 at 18:28
i think James has a point.Keegan should try Millner as a cm he has the engine for that position ,the lad always gets stuck in and has a lethal shot when he decides to let fly. Whatever happens we should definately keep him and not use him as a swap for Liverpool players as has been reported.
28 Tom_Toon // May 13, 2008 at 18:31
Dont think you can compare Ronaldinho (2 years ago) and Messi with Joe Cole. Those two are also far more two footed than Joe Cole.
Personal opinion, but id want a left footer on the left. I still think Joe Cole is best through the middle.
29 CRAIGG // May 13, 2008 at 18:41
Yes but we havent had a quality Natural left-winger since Chris Waddle and John Barnes lost it in the late 80’s
If we put out a natural left winger then we would have Downing or Richardson
Thats like choosing between Crabs or Fleas
30 Tom_Toon // May 13, 2008 at 18:46
Downing is good. Richardson, ahahaha, cant get much worse can you? Oh wait, Alan Smith on the left wing would give him a run for his money.
31 CRAIGG // May 13, 2008 at 18:48
Yes i like Downing for Boro, but he looks so far out his depth at international level its unreal
Andrew Surman now theres a young English Left Winger worth playing (Even though he is from South Africa)
32 Bill F // May 13, 2008 at 19:48
Apparently Figo ran over a black cat that was mooching around his club as he thought it was bringing bad luck to them. It was in the papers so it must be true. (Daily Telegraph today)
Better keep an eye on your pets if you live near stadiums in case it catches on.
33 Rob Kirton // May 13, 2008 at 19:51
CRAIGG: Yes but we havent had a quality Natural left-winger since Chris Waddle and John Barnes lost it in the late 80’s
Ginola?
His predecessor Scott Sellars wasn’t too shabby either. Not a world beater but still better than a lot I can think of who have plied their trade as a wide player
34 Midd The Yid // May 13, 2008 at 19:52
Alright losers.
You will never compete with the mighty spurs
35 Bill F // May 13, 2008 at 19:56
I still reckon it was when we lost Scott Sellars to injury that it skewed the team balance and lost us the Title.
36 Obafan // May 13, 2008 at 22:25
Not goofd enough and never will be. I will never be a fan of Milner, because he just does not see the game. Sorry folks, I know I am not making myself loved with my comment on Milner, but it is my opinion.
37 ronaldeano // May 13, 2008 at 23:24
Midd, one thing is for sure you cockney mong, is we wont be competing with you lot in the championship next year, when your board does a Leeds and takes you down
