Manchester City Make Dunne Available

Newcastle United have received news that Manchester City are willing to listen to offers for their captain Richard Dunne, according to The Northern Echo.

Richard Dunne – made available by Man City

Sven Goran Eriksson’s future at the club is uncertain, to say the least, but it looks like Thailand owner Thaksin Shinawatra is willing to sell any current player at the right price.

Seems strange that he would not wait until a new manager is installed, but there again Shinawatra seems a strange guy, with far too much ego for his own good.

Newcastle could be lining up a bid for the City defender, with a fee around £6M being quoted, but the bad news is that Arsenal have emerged as surprise contenders for Dunne’s signature.

If it’s head to head between Arsenal and ourselves, we’ll probably lose out, all things being equal.

But there again Richard may be persuaded to join his old manager, who he seems to like a lot, and we trust that Kevin will get a chance to discuss his plans with each of our summer transfer targets, including Richard.

But it does seem that the Dunne saga could come to an end fairly soon. Dunne has the chance now of being first through the door this summer – we hope so.

What do you think?

I really feel the Man City situation is cxxps from media. Something we have suffered too.

Must admit that I know very little about their owner, but a mental like they’ve described would never had become the prime minister of Thailand.

How old is he?? Is he really better than what we already have??? If not, whats the point – do we need extra cover at central defence??

Read in a Swedish Newspaper that Sinawatra has told the City players that all of them are up to for grabs so why not try and go for Micah Richards as well??

I think we will be in the driving seat as he would be a regular for us and back up for arsenal and spurs. We will have to move fast though.

He would be a good signing. More solid than what we already have. There is no doubt in my mind that he would improve our defence.

Dunne has been Man City’s player of the season twice. If there’s any opinion I trust in its the opinion of fans who sit in watching their team week in week out.

If the Man City Player of the Year award is decided by the fans votes, get him in.

I agree with Taiwantoon. There’s a lot of sh*t stirring in the press. Usually it’s directed toward us, but every now and then some other teams come in for a bit of it. I’m not sure how much to believe about Shinawatra’s current bout of lunacy, but it could just be a slow news day. Remember, people were saying nice things about us in the press yesterday.

Not sure if Dunne is a huge improvement. Our back four have pulled it together over the last couple of months. It’s possible Cacapa could be going in the close season, he’s down the pecking order a bit, and without lots of first team action, his form will always be inconsistent.

    Where would we use Dunne?

Faye is good and strong in defense and it would seem a waste to play him in midfield to make way for Dunne. There’s no point in making such a fuss about keeping Steven Taylor if he’s going to benched in favour of Dunne either. I doubt he’d want to come in as cover.

Could somebody tell me why we would buy him?

Not an improvement. Get Sol Campbell until Taylor can take over the mantle. We have got to keep away from players who get paid to collect red cards, sick notes, arrest warrants, parking tickets, bail bonds, etc etc. I think the media are trying to wind us up again.

If we get Dunne we are covered when it comes to the central defense. And it’s good to have cover because not one of them will be able to play every match because of injuries, yellow cards etc.
Let’s sign him. I’d like Ireland and Richards aswell if we are about to raid man city.

Richard Dunne would improve our defence full stop….he has been quality this season and IMO would be the ideal partner to bring out the best in young Taylor….The boy has alot of potential that requires a consistant partner at the centre of defence to help bring him along… Dunne has the the experience and quality to help the boy progress….

Dunne has also been Rep. of Ireland player of the year (ahead of Shay!) and captains the side. At 28 he’s got great experience and plenty gas in the tank.
Faye and Taylor are ok. They aren’t world beaters yet and if one of them gets injured, we’ll be throwing on young Edgar, who really needs a year in the Championship on loan to kick on. Dunne is calm, strong and a good lad. The other great news is our rumoured interest in Johnny Evans: a steal under mackem noses and a great prospect.
Eric, what misdemeanours are you talking about regards to Richard Dunne? He’s a model pro, man, although no big pal of wor Joey!

Dunne has mopped up for Richards all season when as expected due to his age he has made mistakes.

Dunne is Man Citys player of the year 4 years in a row.

Class signing along with Elano, Richards, Petrov, Ball and Ireland

thaksin sounds like a right pain in the arse as far as medling owners are concerned, he’s like ten times as bad as roman! oh and by the way, he was shit in charge of thailand, has stolen hundreds of millions over the years…..thats how he bought man city, with blood money. anyway, forgetting about that wanka:
dunne, well, now that it seems obvious that city would sell him i think this will be a good test to see how serious we are about getting their best player who at 6 million is not expensive. seems funny that kev’s first signing is a defender!! who would have guessed. I see that deco has came out in public and said he is finished at barca and wants to come to either the prem or italy, prem if possible. how old is he now – he certainly is a class player. Crouch is now in talks with pompy i see. damn i wanted him to pair off with owen/martins next season. i know that there is plenty of time but thats not quite true is it, cos all the best players get their deals done and dusted pretty quick normally, the longer you leave it the smaller and weaker the pool is to choose from until in the end you just buy a player who is nothing more than a squad name from the very second you buy him. so my team based on who we know we could get as of right now would be, owen/martins paired off with crouch. zogs on the left, barton and edco in the middle with SWP on the right,
at the back i would stay with what we have largley but throw dunne into the mix up too. given seems to have gone off it since all the injuries started so maybe start with harper again next season. bt time you sell smithy, ameobi and rozza plus one or two more like emre you will probalby have spent not that much.

Thaksin Shinawatra is a total fruit loop, let alone a strange guy. This is man who changed Thailands laws for a day so he could sell his company and not pay tax ! He’s a whore to the dollar. Suppose thats why the uk government happy to let him in……………………… if newcastle want Dunne its as easy as that ….they’ll sell….no manager tp put up a fuss. I reckon the signs are that hes gonna be our firt signing !! Could be alot worse.

i am predicting that we dont sign anyone for the next month and the papers are making it all up. Why doesnt the sun just come out and say that newcastle need so and so to fill various positions and that is who they should be looking at. I would have far more respect for the journalists if they did that instead of making things up.

Correct me if I’m wrong here, but Dunne has a buy-out clause in his contract, where he can buy the remainder for £1million…So why would anyone want to bid £6mill!! Offer him a sweetner and get him to buy out his contract, then sign him up?!
As for other defevsive targets…IMO Sol Campbell will be playing in Spain next season, possibly Villareal.

    RE ERIC ::::

Dunne has played 45 games and got 4 yellow cards for City this season and been their most consistent player by a million miles. He was the best player on the pitch at SJP this season. So I don’t see what your point was to be honest mate…in my eyes he is the reason Richards looks so good – because Dunne covers so many of Richards’ mistakes, which he makes because of lack of experience, much like Taylor.

I’d love to see Richards here aswell like!!

Not Elano though – far too lazy and has been shocking since November. Arshavin is a much better bet…

autibo- arshavin will prob end up somewhere bigger now tho, but i agree hes is much better, but dont u think kk is the one man who can get best out of elano, although he doesnt hav much stamina, he never ever plays full match gets taken off after 70mins every match

Elano does have stamina, in the first half of the season he kept getting subbed off on 88mins for his own applause! Then he was playing right back twice for a full 90mins, which is a pretty tiring role when he was getting forward a lot. Oh, and Dunne is a far better player than Steven Taylor will ever be. Get em both in

Why do you hope so Ed? The guy is distinctly avarage and mediocre and fell apart once Richards got injured. Good players always prosper against him. I would be quite happy to let Arsenal have him.

If KK wants a side that can pass the ball around then he doesn’t want Dunne. Cris or Tomascyck are players for the future. Or we could go for a young lad with an EPL side by the name of Edgar who looks like he might have a good future and is already better than Dunne I think the same EPL side have a very good Hungarian youngster who could be a sensation next year.

Bill F, I hope you’re right and we see more of the Hungarian sensation in the first team 🙂 Maybe put Kadar & Edgar on the same sort of muscle/strength regime Man Utd put Ronaldo on to cope with the EPL, and blood them into the first team throughout the coming season when they have some muscle behind their tackles!!

I’d take Dunne if we can get him on the cheap.. offer to pay his buyout clause + a little bonus.

Richards would be an interesting purchase, however, both as a partner for Taylor and as cover for Beye.

Pick up both of them w/o breaking the bank, and I’d say our defense is set for the next couple seasons.

Buy Dunne, I’ve said it God knows how many times. Player of the year four years running at Man City, Irish player of the year, up against Given going for his third Irish award in a row but they couldn’t have not given it to Dunne, they’d both been fantastic and they wanted to vary it, give it to someone else. Dunne picks up every second MOTM award, (the others go to Given.) They are a rock together, whenever I’ve seen them play. It’s more then a wee underrated and he’d do wonders to our defense.

i agree with craig and totally with reillers. dunne has been outstanding this season, and won the man c player of the yr thing 4 yrs in a row which shows consistency. listen to anybody who knows their stuff on football and theyl tell u dunne is up there with the best. andy gray rates him with ferdinand vidic and carvalho in the top 4. harry rednapp is always raving about him and tried to get him b4 he got campbell and distin. and King Kev thinks very highly of him. so stop all this crap bout we have better cos we dont. same people who are saying that were bemoaning the need for CB’s during the year. hope to God he comes to us!
