Newcastle After Edgar Davids – Not Likely

10:06 am, Saturday, May 17th, 2008 by Ed Harrison · 19 Comments

There was news earlier in the week that Newcastle were on the verge of initiating a shock move for former Spurs midfielder Edgar Davids.

Edgar Davids – Newcastle interest ? – we don’t think so

We have no idea why Newcastle would want Edgar Davis.

He’s 35 years old and currently seeing out his career at Ajax, where he started his career back in 1991.

Davids had been linked with a move to Qatar, but the news was that would be put on hold if an offer from Newcastle was lodged.

Davids has been a big star in his career having played for many top teams teams like Ajax, AC Milan, Juventus, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Tottenham – but his career now is all but over.

But we will put this one down to pure made up –since we can see no sense in Newcastle even thinking about bringing Davids to Tyneside.

Can you?

Comments welcome.

this story may have some truth. i wouldnt mind the expierience of him working with kadar zamblera n’zog, milner, enrique and taylor. he would bring on our young players brilliantly like he did at spurs with carrick, huddlestone and jenas.. As for on the pitch im not sure but we know he wont be here for the money like kluivert as he played well for spurs. id say put a 1million pound offer in for him and if yes brilliant if no never mind.

MOST REDICULOUS THING I HAV EVER HEARD, from both the media and robertsa!!!!

Our budget must be dire if we are looking at bargain basement buys, i dont believe we are looking at Davids, but lords alive come on Robertsa, even in our current team who would he play in place of.

My suspicions are that our transfer budget is indeed tiny and we may be looking at freebies and rejects, with myabe a couple of purchases arond the 4-5m mark, and if my suspicions are right, it is indeed a disgrace!!!!!!!!!!

We do already have experience in that position with Nicky Butt. I wouldn’t mind if we signed Davids for a bit of extra cover but we may not need him if we get Veloso.

Also we have been linked with a Peruvian midfielder, Juan Carlos Marino, anyone have any info on him?

LOL! hadnt’t hear sth more funny in last days

  • 5 Davies // May 17, 2008 at 11:01 AM

There wouldn’t be a fee for him. He’d be a freebie, so there would be no need to cough up a million for him Robertsa. Apparently it’s a pay as you play deal.

He’s about ready for the glue factory as a player, but if he was here in a coaching role, he could actually make a big difference.

  • 6 Hammy // May 17, 2008 at 11:05 AM

    I’d have taken him 10 years ago…….

fergie keeps hold of his senior players for a reason , and its not there ability on the pitch .
we need championship winning experience in the squad , player who have won things and can show the lads how to hold there nerve when it matters .
saying that , 35 is far to bloody old .
but id like to see some of our older player be here a few more year yet , we could get another couple of years out of butt and beye hoefully .

Do you think Andy Dunn or Jimmy Greaves read this site if so read this you southern scum.

Nobody regards you as anything other than a pair of nonsensical idiots.

1 graduated from Eton and decides to write about something you dont know anything about or have anywhere near as much passion or knowledge as any self respecting Fan and the other a guy who lost my respect a long time before his KK bashing, With his constant sniping at Terry Venables during his ill-fated tme at Leeds, This from a drunk fool who cannot due to constant Moonshine abuse, Cannot remember What happened last week let alone remember our past triumphs apparently weve done nothing since our FA Cup win in 1951.

Since then he convieniently forgot our 2 FA Cups and 1 Inter Cities Fairs Cup as well as 1 league Cup final, 3 FA Cup finals, 1 2nd Division title in 65, 1 1st Division title in 93, premiership runners up twice, 3rd twice, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 1 Intertoto Cup win and 3 Champions league qualification and 7 times in other european competitions also during our premiership years.

Keep having you ridiculous pops at everyone Arsene Wenger has been on the recieving end recently, But he retains the respect of every footall fan unlike you.

So when you die and we all rejoice you will be remembered as the prick who was dropped for the world cup final and frittered his talent away when you went on the piss, and wrote a pathetic column in the back up bog roll.

David Edgar, aye. Edgar Davids, nee chance. Some dyslexic hack to blame for this crock ‘o sh… Completely contrary to our buying policy, not what the fans want, and a PR disaster (of the Delusional Geordie Laughing-Stock variety). Nooooooooo!

  • 12 Bill F // May 17, 2008 at 2:02 PM

Given a choice between him and Dunne I would take Davids. But I still don’t think he would be a good signing for us. I agree with Hammy ten years ago perhaps.

  • 13 Toon_Ksk // May 17, 2008 at 5:35 PM

I won’t mind. Davids = Legend. He is a classy midfielder, a great leader and I have no doubt he will improve the squad.

To add on to that, at least Spurs won’t be going for him.
