There is some additional news today on the proposed transfer of Arda Turan to Newcastle.
Arda Turan – Newcastle still interested
We reported last week that Newcastle had already bid about £16M for the Turkish 21 year-old, and that they were wisely trying to get the deal completed before the European 2008 tournament starts.
And, not surprisingly, Galatasaray would prefer a deal after the tournament, when the boy’s value could be much higher.
The Turkish international has already played 66 times for Galatasaray and 16 times for Turkey, and the club would be reluctant to move one of their prized assets on so early in his career.
A club source revealed to The News Of The World today:
“The club want to at least wait until Euro 2008 is over.–The offer will be considered and they will sell.â€
“ They have to be seen to try to keep their best players or the club’s fans will go crazy.â€
Newcastle are reported set beat Middlesbrough to the signing of the Turkish winger.
Coupled with this, it is being reported the transfer will mean the end of Damien Duff’s career at Newcastle, but we don’t believe one word of that.
Gone are the days when you sign one player in a certain position, and another player in that same position has to leave.
It’s all about building a strong squad of players, and Kevin has already said he wants to keep everybody he has right now. The truth is we still have a very small squad and we’ve already lost Ramage, Carr, Troisi and Diatta, with Ameobi also odds on to leave.
It would be stupid of us to let Damien go at this point, in our view.
Turan’s agent Ahmet Bulut confirmed there is a club interested in securing the transfer of Turan, and we‘re sure that club is Newcastle United.
Bulut said:
“One club is talking to Galatasaray and asking them to name their price.â€
“If Galatasaray’s request is met, the transfer can happen.â€
But this is also very similar to the situation with Luka Modric, when Tottenham came in at the last moment to sign him.
Unfortunately, we think there’s a chance his agent, and Galatasaray are hoping a bigger club will come in for the player – so let’s no get our hopes too high right now.
Newcastle should get in quickly and make the deal, or get out.
But they shouldn’t let things drag on for a few days, which only lets other clubs come in and make their own deal.
Speed is of the essence here.
But Turan would certainly be a great signing for us.
Comments welcome.

Comment #43Spen27 aint heard much about Veloso only that CHELSEA were weighing up a bid for him but thet are weighing bids up for every player that plays internationally lol but i dont think we have a chance with VELOSO tbh so i will ignore that one for now unless i see him at SJP for talks who knows hope we get this ARDA and GOMIS,ZARATE.

Comment #44he’s the sort of player that will get kicked a lot unfortunately. i’m sure he wins a lot of freekicks though – its a shame we have no one in our side who can take a decent set piece.
i think he would be a good signing but our priorities must lie with getting a central midfield who can ‘run’ a game.
turan, gomis, veloso – i’d be more than happy if we signed any one of these!

arda VS italy
he skinned Oddo ( the best defensive RB in italy ) and made the italian defense look like a joke
at 21 he is quite impressive imo

Comment #47I’m beginning to think the M.Ashley is only prepared to spend big on young players and not prepared to spend on already proven players that cost alot of money. If ARDA, ZARATE and GOMIS arrive at NUFC then i think that will almost tell us what Ashleys plans are. I only hope he doesnt have FEEDER club in his mind.

No deals will happen get used to it..dennis wise couldn’t recruit jimmy krankie never mind Turan..players we will sign are players that want to use us a s a prem window then move to a more ambitious club..the rest will end up at clubs with ambition…I bet sunderland spend more that us.
Any players of any significance will end up at villa, portsmouth, spurs, city, west ham.,everton etc.
We are so far down the pecking order now some serious wedge needs to be spent..but I know that that aint going to happen.

Except with this one they arent trying to mnetion names etc, so it sounds more legit from where i am sitting.

Comment #68im taking from these reports that they want a big price hence they wan him t shine in the euros..
therefore if we want him we gotta up the price a few million,,its a risk worth taking as hes already talented and could get better,,i like the look of this player
so basically we gotta part with the money..bit of a courage is needed from mike ashley and i reckon he might take a punt, well i hope so!!

Comment #76i completely agree and i think you have mis interpreted what i have said. i am just against, like im sure you are, somebosy using this site as a means of advocating a group who are islamic fundamentalists, who im sure most secular muslims in the county are against just like i hope you are toon1978. so if i gave off an impression that i am against muslims in general i apologise but i really want to hear what HAMAS thinks of this and why he doesnt change his name so his views on nufc can be taken seriousley

Comment #80but as this site is for talking about football and not supporting terrorist groups….richie…i agree i think lassanna diarra is a great player whom we would of signed if big sam had stayed because we had reportedly agreed a fee….however it would have to be said that moving from portsmouth to newcastle would be a step down right now…. we should go all out for deco. the guys a magician.
