News that link us today with allowing Emre to move to Galatasary, in order to secure the transfer of Arda Turan - we don’t believe one word of it.

Emre - going nowhere
While we expect journalists to say this, if only because Emre is Turkish, and there have been reports about Galatasary wanting him back, we think Emre can still do a job for Newcastle, if he can stay fit.
He hasn’t had much of a chance to show what he can do yet, but we know Kevin likes the player, and knows he can carve our chances.
And it turns out Emre and Arda Turan have the same agent, Ahmet Bulut,
And Ahmet says that Emre is very happy to stay at Newcastle, and we think that’s true because he hasn’t yet played under Keegan. Kevin must be a dream manager for Emre, because of the way the 50 times capped Turkish International plays so creatively.
No, we don’t think Emre will have anything to do with the transfer of Arda Turan from Galatasary, other then persuading Arda what a great club Newcastle is.
We want to bring talent into the club in the summer, not lose what we already have – and Emre has definite talent, there’s no doubt about that - if only we could keep him fit.
Comments welcome.

He could be very helpful in getting him here.

Hopefully Emre can persuade Arda Turan to join Newcastle! Its a coincidence Emre and Turan both have the agent! lol

hmmmm might be a good midfield with Emre and Arda the Turkish Geordie revolution lol.

I want a player with same qualities just as Pavel Nedved! We have been linked with Lubos Kalouda but he has just joined CSKA Moscow!

Any news abut Miguel Veloso? anyone
6 C // May 18, 2008 at 13:42
I feel that every year everybody, myself included say that this will be emres year. The year he becomes the midfield general that we need. And then he gets injured. So I say let’s unload him. He is still a big star in turkey and the Galatasary fans would be glad to have him. So let’s swap him for Arda (a future star) and send Emre back to his home country and thank him for his years in Newcastle.

I agree with you C!

Our squad is small enough as it is.
11 faustino // May 18, 2008 at 13:49
As i’m sure alot of us will! If Emre has to go to sign Turan I really don’t see the problem.
I haven’t thought as Emre as a valuable member of our squad for quite some time. Almost on a par with selling Dyer….one big ‘meh’ I’m affraid.
Really can’t see why you’d rather get rid of Butt than Emre.
12 Frankie Boy // May 18, 2008 at 13:53
We cannot afford to let Emre go. I for one would be gutted. He will have a big asy in whether we get Arda. Lets sign Turks this season instead of Turkeys like Boumsong etc in previous seasons

because nicky butt only offers winning the ball cant shoot doesnt really pull out the killer pass cant run cant go past people if he offers anything we havent got in other players please tell me.emre and barton are ball winners even smith……as for leadership we got owen given and beye even geremi.emre is younger to

We should keep Emre he is our most creative midfielder plus he will help arda turan to settle in ( if we signed him of course )

If Emre is what the reason brought Turan to Newcastle then i won’t mind. But, If galatasary want Emre as part of exchange. Then I think should let Emre be.

zarate -great prospect
dunne /van buyten.

23 faustino // May 18, 2008 at 14:36
Spen…. Butt started 35 prem games and scored 3 which, considering our strikers scored 0,7,9 and 11 respectively, isn’t bad is it. Butt has made some GREAT passes this season and despite age is playing well over 25 starts a season on avg. since he got here. Blinding squad player for next season imo.
Emre started 6 times this year and has barely avg 14 starts a year since he got here and only scored 5 goals. No one is arguing that theoretcially Emre is a great player, just that there would be no great loss in losing him if he’s never bloody fit.
24 faustino // May 18, 2008 at 14:38

Keegan is supposed to be looking at Kitson from reading, I think that would be a good replacement for Ameobi at £3m.
If any of our top strikers leave then find a top drawer striker.
Spend in the midfield.
35 Bob // May 18, 2008 at 15:02

38 Bob // May 18, 2008 at 15:10
Toon 1978:
What I mean is that - if he is so good - he will get noticed by bigger clubs (during Euro 2008) and will probably end up signing for a top 4 club in England/Spain/Italy.
39 Toon1978 // May 18, 2008 at 15:11
kk Bob i know what you mean KEEP THE FAITH we will sign good players.
40 KKK // May 18, 2008 at 15:17
Bob don’t be so negative. I’d like to think we can attract players that play for their national teams. All of the work to try and sign Gomis won’t simply be scrapped because he has been included in the France Squad. Sure we got Boumsong while he was playing for France! lol
We’ll get Gomis signed up before EuroO8 anyway!
41 leather // May 18, 2008 at 15:28
Get shot-he only played 8 games this season. He has only played 58 times in 3 seasons. That is Dyer or Woodgate type of appearances. Could be a good player, but we are still saying could after 3 years.
42 scott9 // May 18, 2008 at 15:38
im not sure about emre if he only he cud stay fully fit he would be great for us but he never is thats the problem we have
43 NUFCFAN // May 18, 2008 at 15:38
Am beginning to see that every player we want we are going. Have to end up waiting till the end of the euro’s. And the problem with them being young and exciting it doesn’t bode well.
Just need to get the ball rolling and get one in and hope that it starts the dominoe effect.
Also let’s remember that its the new era of no sheperd and no announcements of who we are getting till they happen.
Friends who are arsenal fans just wait it out, so something we need to do
44 Bob // May 18, 2008 at 15:48

Just saw youtube video of Zarate and Turan and Gomis, how good would our attacking options be then!! Very much doubt we’ll get all three but these are the right level of players we should be linked with. Dunne is a very good cb and hopefully with lb option as well things are looking very bright.
Harper
Beye Dunne Faye Enrique
Barton Butt Turan
Martins Gomis Owen
zarate, geremi, shorey(?), milner, n’zog, viduka, taylor, given, emre.
cant really complain with back up like that.

49 faustino // May 18, 2008 at 16:21
Spen, just becasue Emre was quite good three years ago doesn’t mean he’s as good a player now. Having someone like Butt in the squad for experience, consistency, calming effect, backup etc. is vital. Having somone who is unfit 80% of the time, is not.
It’s chalk and cheese really; this isn’t a competition between two players, it’s about who does his job and who’s worth his money.
Butt is exactly what it says on the tin and will do exactly what’s expected of him. Older squad player, immense experience at the TOP TOP level, quality and ever dependable. Exactly what the club needs.
Emre is supposed to be a first team class, midfield general and a possible game winner. He’s none of these things anymore and never fit for us to tell if I’m right or wrong.
This whole argument will become superfluous when he’s out for 6 months after the euros. Cos you know its going to happen.

52 faustino // May 18, 2008 at 16:30
Fair enough….he is a great player when fit. When fit
Alright something has just come to my attention…..why was Emre released for ‘International Duty’ weeks ago when the national league only wound up 8 days ago?
Correct me if I’m wrong but Turkey is one of the internaitonal sides that has a huge percentage of players in the domestic league? Has Belazoglu been in a park for 3 weeks kicking a ball against a wall?
53 Andy1 // May 18, 2008 at 16:37
This Emre story is just crap. It’s like the other version of the Turan story, where they tag on the bit about selling Duff. So if these are true, two out and only one coming in. That aint gonna happen when we have such a small squad already.
54 toonarmy08 // May 18, 2008 at 16:49

I think that Emre is a quality player who is basically a waste of space because of his injury problems and he should be sold because of this.

Emre is still world-class, we just need to keep him fit. but Duff has simply finished as a quality PL player.

I think the best Newcastle can do is to break the bank and buy someone like C-Ronaldo. But i think there is no other person who is the same category as him this season and for the next season.
Only with such a creative player like him can newcastle produce the goods like 10 years ago.
Remember David Ginola? We need someone like him to create the goals for our 3 strikers up front. And with the current players, i cannot see anyone with this creativity.

Emre is a good player, he has shown a lot of effort while playing for us and I like him as a player, but as others have said it hasnt worked out for us, much like Parker, so I agree I would sell him, I would bring in a good player who is young like the Turkish player quoted to replace him or other similar potentials, but I also would bring in Kitson from Reading to replace Ameobi, I would use him as a midfielder as he is cheap at £3m but scores a lot of goals and he could be used at the front if we are short of strikers due to injury, he has scored 9 goals at Reading, if he scored 4-6 as a midfielder that would make a hell of a difference to our season, we could also sell Smith and buy either another young midfielder or go for another top notch striker.
Kitson could do the Smith and Ameobi role leaving us with more money to spend elsewhere.
We need people we can fall back on if top players are injured or do not settle so we dont slip down the table due to problems, as well as looking for the next top players to lift us up towards fifth.

TURAN is a winger (both sides). Why do we need another winger and get a creative central midfielder in exchange of it? Don’t think so…
I also think there are a lot better wingers available, like ARSHAVIN, McGEADY, etc…but again, we only need one if ZOGGY decides to leave!
What we really need is RICHARD DUNNE and a backup for ENRIQUE (shorey is cheap!). After that we need a big striker who can play the hold up game like VIDUKA and that would be GOMIS!
I believe these 3 additions could make us a very strong team next season!

elfer, turan crates far more chances, he is like a playmaker but on the wing, any way who else do we have to play rm except milner, no cover wotsoever
also barca and madrid have both signed new defenders, think we should go for marquez or metzelder as they wont really get a game any more.
given/harper
beye, faye, metzelder/marquez, enrique/wendell
arshavin/milner, butt, arda/n’zogbia
owen
martins, gomis
that is 5 signings
cb metzelder/marquez
lb wendell
rm arshavin
lm turan arda
st gomis
but also think we need a top quality cm aswell like montolivo of fiorentina

Ok, you’re right then…must admit do absolutely not know anything about TURAN, since turkish football doesn’t interest me at all…
But as we did not had much luck in EMRE…hm, tricky decission…
To answer your question, we have on the right side GEREMI (defensive), MILNER (offensive, can also play on the left side`!) and on the left side ZOGGY (offensive) and maybe BARTON (defensive, but you can argue, that he’s probably better in the middle…but can he replace BUTT?)
Agree, except in defense I see SHOREY (cheaper) and DUNNE (EPL experience) as the better signings…by the way, not sure we can attract ARSHAVIN

Emre the past? How old is he? 26/27?
That’s nothing for a player with his attributes, while his pace will slow his quality should shine with age. Nobby still gets up and down the pitch, but has never been particularly quick, yet remains invaluable with that right peg of his. Much the same could be said about Emre.
His left foot lands some of the finest passes I’ve ever witnessed, and when talking about commitment, energy and danger, there are few able to surpass him.
Emre has to stay and be given a chance. If he’s free of injury after the Euros then I don’t think you can fault the lad, and expect him in there playing a blinder next season.
Of course if he gets injured at the Euros, he can be sold to whoever will take him. His injuries are still outweighed by his excellent performances for me. If he can’t get in there for the first 5 games at least of next season, get rid to the highest bidder.
