Newcastle’s Unlikley Interest In Marino

We know of no interest Newcastle have in Peru midfielder Marino, but his agent seems to have tried to stir up interest in the player this week.

Marino – not good enough for Newcastle

Juan Carlos Marino’s agent has said that Newcastle should formally approach the player for a move to the Premier League, if they are interested.

Marino is now at the Hercules club in the Spanish second division, and his representative Borja Gonzalez has recently said he will not make a move to Alianza Lima in Peru, as previously thought.

Newcastle are reported to have registered an interest in the player but have yet to put in an official offer.

Gonzalez told 24 Horas Libre.

“I understand that Marino will not return to Alianza in July,”

“I dismiss it because Juan Carlos is under contract with Hercules until June 31 and it exists a possibility that the Alicante club extend his stay.”

“Other options exist from Spanish clubs and even Newcastle in England.”

Apart from the fact there is no June 31st, this seems to us a blatant attempt by an agent to drum up interest in one of his players, so we would be surprised if there’s any truth in it.

Marino is 26, and has played for Peru just 4 times.

We doubt the player is good enough for Newcastle, and we’d be surprised to hear anything more about this.

Comments welcome.

All it will take is one quality signing for sensible money and paying a sensible wage and all this will stop. The silence on any real transfer info is doing us no favours; whether it be for the patience of the fans or the PR of the club.

Everyone knows we need players desperately so the longer this goes one and the more we need, the harder it will be.

    Hi there,

I am Peruvian, been in England for 7 years, and have been reading this blog for ages. First became Newcastle fan when Nobby started playing for us.

Anyway, to Marino, yep agreed, he’s not good enough. Solano was way waaaaay better at his age. He needs to play in tougher leagues like the Argentinian, or perhaps second division in Spain to be anyway near ready for the premiership.

Tell you which peruvian we SHOULD be going for though: Juan Vargas, left back at Catania, Italy. Has played in Argentina also. Greatest talent since Noby. Although it is certain he’s signing for REal Madrid, but check him out:

His agent has obviously been reading “The Newcastle Blog” and has come to the conclusion the club is so desperate to make a signing , having been rebuffed by so many clubs and snubbed by mediocrities, that they will sign anyone.
Hey, have Spurs checked out this guy?

Sorry, forgot he had just signed for Hercules. He has only played a season there, so I think he is still adapting. When we bought Nobby, he ws already one of the stars in Boca Juniors (and let me tell you, if you csn handle the pressure of playing at Boca, u can handle anything). He kept a young Riquelme on the bench, and he was ready imo. Agents in Newcastle love to mention Newcastle because of the link with Nobby, but nothing else, in the same way they mention Bayern Munich because Guerrero and Pizarro played there. I woudl read too much into the agent’s comments.

    Vargas though…what did you think?
