Everton Chase Former Newcastle Target

Everton are reported to be after a former Newcastle United target.

Alou Diarra – are Newcastle still interested?

Everton manager David Moyes is making a move for £8M-rated French international midfield star Alou Diarra – to bring him back to Merseyside.

Moyes has been assured he has decent money in the transfer market and has put Bordeaux’s highly-rated Diarra at the top of his list.

Diarra, 26, was with Liverpool as a teenager but never played in the first team, and before he left Everton tried to sign him, but were not successful.

There were continual reports last summer that Newcastle and Sam Allardyce were interested in the 26 year-old, but nothing from Kevin Keegan on whether the club would still be interested.

However, we are after another defensive midfielder as both cover and competition for Nicky Butt.

Finally a few facts on Diarra:

He was at Liverpool for three years from 2002-2005 but never made one senior appearance for the club.

He was on loan for much of the time, and went out on loan first to Le Havre where he made 25 appearances with no goals, then to SC Bastia where he made 35 appearances and 4 goals and finally signed for RC Lens where he made 66 appearances with 4 goals.

Diarra, who is 6’3″ tall, moved to Olympique Lyonnais in 2006 from Lens, and then one year later moved to Bordeaux at a fee of around £6M.

Alou has played for Lyon 14 times (1 goal) from 2006-2007 and has played 34 times (4 goals) for Bordeaux since last summer.

He will turn 27 in July and has so far represented France 12 times.

Do we need that names? I think we need a strong defensive midfielder (could in my eyes also be FAYE) and another strong CB (DUNNE) and we will be fine, since OWEN can fill that playmaker/scorer role perfectly! His backup could be EMRE.

So go for GOMIS and SHOREY and then see if we can get a winger too…

    What do you think:

    MARTINS———-GOMIS(VIDUKA)
    ————-OWEN(EMRE)
    ARSHAVIN———GEREMI
    —————FAYE(BUTT)
    SHOREY-DUNNE-TAYLOR-BEYE
    —————-GIVEN

ELFER – I’d rather have Jose at left back, but otherwise, that looks like a team with goeals in it.

Shame Gomis isn’t interested in playing for us.

Seems a bit of a travelling man to me. If Everton go for him he will choose them rather than us. We should not be thinking in terms of “names” for NUFC because we are not going to get them. KK’s list is unknown to us and why did he, according to the gutter press, have to give it
to Wise? Surely Wise and Jimenez are looking for the future element not next season’s squad?
I think looking too closely at Europe for players is also a waste of time. A review of squad numbers available tells where KK is looking (as well as numbers to come available e.g. No 4). We will end up with journeymen whom KK can get something out of that other managers have not, or did not – in other words those seen as cast offs and no longer wanted on voyage. We need good players, loyal players, those who WANT to play for NUFC and improve our lot. Look around you – some prima donnas are already considering leaving the so-called top 4. And they are, or will be, in Europe and have achieved something! Greed motivates too many in the game nowadays and I think Ashley is not going to allow that to fester within NUFC.
