Newcastle Target Wants To Leave Marseilles

Lots of reports today linking players to Newcastle United, and now we hear that Newcastle target Olympique Marseille midfielder Modeste M’bami wants to move in the summer.

Modeste M’bami – looking to leave Marseilles in the summer

Modeste M’bami is a Cameroon International is a midfielder, who joined Marseilles from Paris Saint-Germain in August 2006.

M’bami is a physically strong player with good technical skills and is known as a play-making central midfielder, who likes to come forward when possible.

Both Everton and Newcastle are reported to be interested in M’Bami.

Modeste said yesterday:

“I want to see something else, to have a new challenge and to give back to L’OM what they brought me.”

“That is why I did not sign a contract extension, but I want to leave now not be a free (agent) after.”

The player has played 49 times for Marseilles and scored one goal and has represented his country, Cameroon, 25 times scoring 3 goals.

He stands 5’8″ tall and no doubt Geremi would be able to appraise Kevin Keegan of what kind of player M’Bami is.

Kevin has already said he has been impressed with the African quartet we currently have at the club in Beye, Faye, Geremi and Martins, and don’t be surprised if he brings in another African during the summer.

We certainly like our African Geordies at the club.

What do you think?

Comments very welcome.

I believe we need another holding midfielder, however we dont need the finished article here. There is still life in Nicky Butt yet (My player of the season). However the old dog wont go on for ever and for this reason back up is needed.

i thought he will be a free agent this summer but i was mistaken…….so no buy for free 😀 .
however i wouldn’t pay to much for him, he’s solid but not a great player, i guess we shouldn’t pay more than 4-5 mil for him.

A worthwhile signing. Like the haircut but hope he does not put bits of toilet paper in it like Saha did! The type of player we should go for. I knew KK wanted to register NUFC for the African Nations Cup!!!! Joking apart I think we should consider this bloke. Butt will not last forever and we don’t know many rocks Barton has got to break yet.

As long as there’s cover for him when he and the rest of our African contingent disappear every other January, I can’t see any reason why he wouldn’t be a good buy.

He has a bit to learn from what I hear though.

Ronaldhino is leaving Barca, perhaps a switch to the Toon is what he is in for! Ya right lads, lets all be realisitc throughout the summer. The simple fact of the matter is almost every player that has a choice between a side that has a european spot and a side that does not is going to pick the euro team. Here is a player in M’Bami that is probably a good fit fro Newcastle so lets give him a shot. We nned ot sign plyuaers like him who are under thr radar of the big clubs, and also keep signing youngsters with potential. KK was spot on when he said we will not be top four in his current contract. It will take at least 5 years to build our club into a challenger if we have some stability in management and a strong commitment to signing players for the future.

He’ll go to Everton if that’s the case.

I’m also convinced that Spurs will bid for whoever we bid for…What’s the point of bothering to try to sign anyone decent? Spurs are going to end up with 50 first-team players before August is over and a wage bill 3 times the size of Chelsea’s…

Lets just settle for Edgar Davids and some other unwanted geriatrics…
