Barton Admits Assault Charges In Liverpool

Joey Barton has admitted the charges of assault and affray, following his arrest in Liverpool just after Christmas.

Joey Barton – admits charges from December 27th last year

Barton, who is still only 25, became involved in a confrontation outside a McDonald’s restaurant on December 27 2007 around 5:00 am in the morning, after a night of drinking with his brother and a woman.

He apparently admitted the charges last month, but reporting restrictions were only lifted today at Liverpool crown court, where Barton is due to be sentenced.

Ousmane Dabo after his bust up with Joey last May

Barton will also face assault charges in his trial due at the end of June, for his assault on his Manchester City team mate Ousmane Dabo, in a training ground bust up on May 1st last year.

Those specific charges are strenuously denied by Joey.

Newcastle target Mikail Sylvestre of Manchester United, a friend of Ousmane Dabo, refused to consider Newcastle last year, because Barton was at the club.

We don’t know where all of this will lead to, and have no idea what impact the outcome of these trials will have on Joey Barton’s career at Newcastle United. But like we’ve always told the kids, actions have consequences and bad actions have bad consequences.

If found guilty of either charge, Barton will need to serve his punishment, but whether he will then be able to continue his career at the club would be questionable.

Obviously whether he is found guilty on either charges will have a big effect.

Comments welcome.

I hope he gets off with it because he has looked like he’s getting back to his best in our mini revival under KK.

One question why when he has such quality from dead ball situations does Barton sit back and watch Geremi waste every corner and free kick ?

Barton and Veloso could be a world beating partnership in the premiership next season and Geremi could be a Galaxy beating player in the MLS next season.

Hmm. 6 months [so serving 3?] already for “assault and affray” and then he’s got an upcoming trial for ABH whilst already a detained prisoner?

3 months would take him outta the equation for pres-season training but if he has anything else tagged on then that’ll be a season I’d guess.

I wonder if he’ll be with his brother? Idiots…

It’s not definite his contract will be cancelled – Bristol City had 3 players jailed in 2006 (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/bristol/5306506.stm) and all three returned to the squad afterwards.

6 months for this one – means he will probably get 12 for the Man Shitty incident.

He can be a “nice boy” for some gorilla inside; might teach him some manners!!!!!

He will be fine, Probably be walking funny and his voice will be a couple of notches higher but in the long run he will learn from his mistakes.

He will serve 3 months and be back for Pre-Season.

Yeah, he’ll be out in 2 months with good behaviour, if he doesnt behave he doesnt deserve to be at our club..

Infact, i say get rid of him now, cut our losses and sign someone else, im sure this is in violation of his contract, we dont need his type of personality at this club no matter how good he is.

6 months for latest assault. The assault on his ex man City team mate Dabo is still outstanding and should get heavier sentence for that one.
GET RID NOW , none of this we will stick by him Shite!!! He has brought shame on our club lets see those in power do something positive about this.
Am sure my employer would show me the door without explanation.

If there is any justice, he will be out in 2 months (thats if he can behave himself) If its good enough for drug dealers and burglars then it must be the same for Barton. On another note KK has to keep Emre now!

What is saved on his wages over next few years will go towards replacement and more reason to keep Emre now. MA has been wanting to get rid of some high earners and Barton will be one of them. Perfect excuse, not that any other reason needed after todays news.

don’t worry, he’ll be out in a couple of months if not sooner and he won’t be sentenced in the ManCity incident as they can’t prove anything otherwise he’d a;; ready been sentenced.

this is bollox but we need Joey, he’s a good player.

Yeah compared to burglars and rapists he’s not going to be in that long, but can’t imagine he will be getting paid while he’s in there. Hopefully we won’t cut him loose though and he’ll come back and wise up a bit.

Just been on SSN that KK submitted letter to court as character reference stating he is a changed person to the one he knew at Man City.
Obviously KK sees him every day , but he sees him without alcohol.
KK should have night round the Quayside with him and then would he say the same.
His legal team will appeal the sentence and he will end up with a community sentence and massive fine….wait and see, money speaks !!!
