Emre Returns For Turkey in 1-0 Win – Video

It was great to see Newcastle United midfielder Emre back from injury last night, as Turkey registered a 1-0 victory over Slovakia in the first of their Euro 2008 warm-up matches.

emre-scores.JPG

Emre – played the second half against Slovakia

The 27-year-old has not played for the first team since early February and he was brought on as a second half substitute and put in a good 45 minutes.

As we reported yesterday Kevin Keegan, who will be watching Emre closely during the Euro 2008 championships, was allowed to join up with the Turkish national squad before the last game of the season in a bid to build his fitness.

Another great man management gesture from the maestro.

Turkey are preparing for the Euro 2008 championships at a training camp in Germany and are set to play friendlies against Finland and Uruguay before their opening group match with Portugal on June 7.

Galatasary defender Hakan Balta scored the only goal against the Slovaks with Emre a half-time introduction in what his 52nd appearance for his country.

It doesn’t look like one of our targets Arada Turan got a run out yesterday.

Here’s the video of the turkey goal.

Teams:

Turkey: Rustu Recber, Hakan Kadir Balta (Ugur Boral, 78), Gokhan Zan, Mehmet Topal (Emre Belozoglu, 46), Mehmet Aurelio, Semih Senturk (Halil Altintop 65), Ibrahim Kas (Sabri Sarioglu, 46), Tuncay Sanli, Kazim Kazim, Mevlut Erdinc (Gokdeniz Karadeniz, 46), Emre Gungor.

Slovakia: Stefan Senecky, Matej Krajcik, Martin Skrtel, Tomas Hubocan, Marek Hamsik, Stanislav Sestak (Jaroslav Kolbas, 86), Marek Mintal (Filip Holosko, 78) (Martin Jakubko, 67), Marek Cech (Igor Zofcak, 67), Robert Vittek, Peter Petras, Radoslav Zabavnik.

look at us all becoming turkey fans. emre was qaulity last night. he dictates the pace of the game. the problem with us is we only have a few palyers inteligent enough to play with him, he seems on a dfferent wave length than the lot of them. next year will be his year. i think the scenario is alot like when jaun pablo angel played for villa, he always seemed to much of a clever player for his team.

Reported Newcastle target Bafetimbi Gomis will be staying at St Etienne for at least one more year, according to club co-president Roland Romeyer.

The striker had attracted admiring glances from several Premier League clubs after netting an impressive 16 goals in 35 games in Ligue 1 last season.

But Romeyer insists the forward, who has also been linked with a big-money move to French giants Marseille, will be staying at St Etienne before heading to England.

Romeyer said in L’Equipe: “He is untransferable. Even if Marseille came in with three lorries full of banknotes, he would not leave.

“He is ready to stay one more year with us before leaving to play in England.”

Apparently he was only ever going to be with us for one year, and then handing over.

We’ll see though. Could just be the press on a slow day. They’ve done the Barton thing to death already.

Daily Mail again. On Monday I posted a complaint to the Press Commission about the Daily Mail article about Michael Owen. The paper itself just sent a postcard saying they were not going to print my letter. Never wanted it printed. I complained to their editor claiming they were in breach of Section 1 (i) and (iii) of the Press Commission’s Code of Practice. No reply yet from them. Had enough of the Daily Mail shite. Emre looks as though, if he can stay injury free, he has a future under KK. Barton gone so now Emre can get some in (not the jail – I mean at St James). Perhaps that way we get Turan too?

Leo…Setanta carry channels that are US and EIRE specific at the very least. It was more than likely one of them.

Strange tho’ I really think Emre is a quality player, but whenever Turkey has to play he is not injured and whenever NUFC needs to play he is injured. Really strange.

Typical emre…..plays for turkey but not newcastle!
mr attacking midfielder himself…never gets any assists and hardly scores!!

    grrrr

get rid of him, we want players who are hungry to play and win at newcastle!

AZ – No Veloso is a holding midfielder who can play in front of our defence. He also can play as LB if I’m not miateken, but I would not prefer that. He has got a fantstic pass ability so he would be great for us. Hope something happens with him!!

OBAFAN, thanks for that mate, he sounds ideal for us, especially as KK said he wanted to sign another LEFT BACK, although I agree he would be better used in midfield

Davies – haven’t read the article saying Mort is leaving but I was under the impression that he was only going to be here for a year when he took over so wouldn’t really surprise me too much if he were to go.

geordie gerrard7…you are so right about emre: sadly, he doesnt have intelligent enough players around him at nufc. ive watched nearly every game he played for turkey the last couple of years and he´s always so dominant, precise and elegant! hopefully it´ll work out somehow next season anyway cause he´s a delight to watch! ….What we really need in the squad are new wingers…!
