Newcastle Still Interested In Stephane Sessegnon

Le Mans star Stephane Sessegnon has confirmed that Newcastle United have been one of the clubs scouting him in recent Ligue 1 games.

Stephane Sessegnon – in red – Newcastle still showing interest

The Le Mans midfielder is reportedly on the list of players that could head to St James’ Park, but we also note that Arsenal are interested in the player.

If that interest from the London club is strong, it could be difficult for us to attract the player to Tyneside.

However, the Benin international is keen on moving to The Premier League, and thinks that a transfer to England would be a ‘dream’.

Sessegnon said:

“I am in contact with Le Mans, they told me Newcastle United have watched me and I am flattered to be linked with a big team in England,”

“There are a lot of African players in The Premier League, (moving there) would be a dream but I have to work hard and one day I could be there.”

We wouldn’t mind at all if Newcastle sign this boy, because the 4 Africans we have at the club right now have been great for us since Kevin Keegan arrived.

Habib Beye currently has 50 % of the votes for our Player of the Season – with nearly 1000 having currently voted.

Stéphane Sessegnon was born in June, 1984 in Allahe, and is of Beninese nationality. He has played many times for the Benin National team, and had some impressive displays for Benin in the African Cup of Nations earlier this year, which we know Kevin Keegan watched.

Sessegnon is rated at around ₤4M, and has earned a reputation in Ligue 1 as an all-action defensive midfielder. The player himself however, also likes to go forward and score goals.

With Arsenal already in the mix, as potentially Matthieu Flamini’s replacement, it may be difficult to pull this one off.

But the midfield is certainly an area of the team Keegan is keen on strengthening in the summer, and that’s even more true now, with the bad news about Joey Barton yesterday.

Stephane turns 24 years old in June and has played 41 times for Le Mans since moving there from US Creteil in France, in 2006, and has scored 4 goals for the club. He stands just under 5′8″ tall.

What do you think?

we could do to arsenal what spurs do to us, we do to us. they do the hard work scouting and we try snap them up by putting in alot more money.

arsenal want him as a replacement to flamini. nasri is an attacking midfielder.

It’s not a massive amount of money (£4m) especialy not for MA so why do we seem to be so cautious when it comes to spending in the tranfer market?
I don’t expect us to be spending 10’s of millions

This guy sounds like exactly what we need a battling midfielder in a Patrick Viera mold. £4m is cheap by today’s standards so I say snap him up now while other clubs are simply mulling over it. Butt is great but getting on, Barton is in jail and Geremi is good but looks like he is running out of steam. We need midfielders and if they can score as well as break up play then they sound pretty good to me.

This bloke looks promising. The squad are getting thinner and thinner on the ground. Surely we can pip Arse and all to this one. What happened to our interest in Vokes, Barnes, etc?
While Wise fiddles and farts about we miss out on too many. Did we have any interest in Baines as well? Now that Barton’s gone for a burton it
is getting to sooner rather than later.

@ Dave – I think Tom_Toon is at school or something. The kid only thinks he knows everything because he watches too much Setanta sports during the day and plays Football management games.

Us working folk rely upon these websites while we’re at work trying not to do work!

Back to the player, sounds interesting, maybe worth a pop for £4m as he may turn out to be the next Essien.

Apparently Sevilla are after his team mate who is also African called Ramic or something, sign him too!

At £4m go for him. Tho’ it is another player who we will lose in January 2010 (ACN).

It indeed, like someone mentionned, is a bit scaring that our squad is getting smaller and smaller. One of the comments was that we have got a small squad. Now we have oflloaded a few players and I’m sure a few of the others will go away in the summer or will not be able to play (Barton), so we really need to go and buy players (and we need more incoming than outgoing transfers that is for sure!)

Did anyone else hear the speculation that Mort is considering his position and that he wants to return to his previous job as a lawyer?

Wome could be a good acquisition and im sure he could teach Enrique alot. But we seem to be targeting younger players. We all know Keegan is after a left back but if he wants one with EPL experience i can see him going for Riise or Shorey before Wome.

Lets face it, Geremi and Faye will hopefully only become squad players once we’ve signed these proposed “TOP TOP” players. So if we sign 1 or 2 more Africans into the squad, then we’re pretty much back where we started. I think around 6 Africans is fine, as long as blood our youngsters and sign more squad players!
