21 year-old Olympique Lyon forward Loic Remy is attracting Premiership interest, and Newcastle United have been linked with the player for at least nine months.
Loic Remy – class player would be great young signing on Tyneside
Lyon is Remy’s home town club and they are now reported to being open to selling the youngster this summer, and have already been contacted by Newcastle United, Portsmouth and Tottenham about the player.
We have Lyon’s former captain for the last 5 years – Claudio Cacapa – at the club and he can let Kevin know exactly what Remy is like.
We also have N’Zogbia playing in the French Under-21 squad – and young Charles will have trained with Remy during the French Under-21 training sessions.
We also have a lot of French speaking players at the club right now in Geremi, N’Zogbia, Beye, Faye and N’Zogbia to name but a few, so if Newcastle do sign the youngster, he could acclimatize well and get plenty of support both on and off the field at the club.
Who is Loic Remy?
He is a promising young right-footed French striker, born on January 2, 1987 in Rillieux-la-Pape, France and can play as a striker or on the right wing.
He plays for his hometown club Olympique Lyonnais, for whom he has appeared 12 times.
He has been on loan to Lens this year and appeared 6 times for them and scored 3 goals.
Loic stands just over 6′ tall and has played once for the France Under-21 team and has also represented France at Under-18 and Under-19 levels.
Sounds to us like he’s the type of player we are looking for. Tottenham are also said to be interested – unfortunately.
Comments very welcome.

Comment #2Well if Spurs are interested, we may as well give up now…
Seriously though, it depends on how much he’d cost. If we could get him for around 5 mil or (hopefully) less, then I’d say give him a shot.

Comment #4I would take 5 or 6 of the current Lyon team given the chance although I have to admit Remy did not figure among them. Benzema, Kahlstrom, Fred, Cris, Keita, Junhino, Toulalon. And I am sure I have missed at least one.

Comment #13Could be good for the wing, I would be surprised if he would replace one of our current strikers, if we are after him as a future striker then my old question remains, why are we keeping Carroll??
One potential good striker required-I thought that was Carroll’s job, and please one proven goalscoring striker to rotate and cover for injuries, ie Cisse, Johnson or Kitson, our current striker line up is good, we need additional cover not a youngster, picture it, Owen gets injured and has been scoring all season, no pressure for a debut then!!!
Otherwise sell Carroll bring in a youngster and an established proven goalscorer. Young strikers rarely work straight out of the box.

Comment #17One to consider. Spurs and Pompey again. What is it with those two? Seems they cannot do anything without seeing where NUFC looks first.
Can’t we wind both of them up and get KK, Mort, and Terry Mac to watch a game at some
Paris or Amsterdam playground? Then see what that sparks off in the Daily Mail, Sun, and NOTW.

Comment #19We may have been linked with so many players because no one knows who we’re going to buy, or it may be that for the first time that I can remember as an NUFC fan that we have a half-decent scouting network that is looking at many different options for the same position.
That’s a good thing to me.
We’ve probably been linked with 40 players cos we’ve scouted 40 players.
And I don’t think this time of year is boring, I love all the speculaiton – it’s our only time to dream of players like Veloso, Turan and Gomez who we will probably never get. No harm in dreaming though. Gomez especially looks awsome. Well worth a £25 million bid I would say.

I’m excited but it’s a good thing that NUFC are being so secretive

Comment #25i dont think we will buy anyone ever again. i think our board is full of shit and i am gettign fed up of the wankers to be honest. gala president has came out and said if we pay 13 million we can have turan tmrw, today i see that turan himself says he wants to c ome but that as of now, we have made no offer but only an enquiry. May i ask what the hell was the point in making an enquiry and then not bothering once you know you can get the player?? just watch this space, frigging turan will win man of the tournemant at the euros and be worth 40 million over night. he fits the ‘so called’ criteria of what cock end mort wants, young and a massive prospect. what is it with our board. they wont buy dunne cos he is too old at 29 and they wont buy turan at 21…. begs the question what the fcuk do they really want? they aint gonna get any budding stars for peanuts! anyway, i see they are saying the mortisha himself is wrapping his hand in…. good job too i say…. i think that ashley once wanted david dein, now thats better!! as for this player in this blog… i forgot his name already, doesnt matter though cos as long as he costs more than 40 quid and is 29 or over or as young as 21, is black or even white then we are out of the running. mort and wise, you are a pair a bull shitters.

Comment #26buy the under 21 french team! Remy is a handy player.
RE: Ian, I am all for buying as many promising players as possible. Worrying about Carrol isnt an issue. He will go back out on Loan – he needs to step up, either when he goes away on loan or when he plays for the firsts.
And when you compare him at his age to these wonderkids of Gomez ,Gomis, Rooney when he came onto the scene, even Shearer when he did. He has a long way to go.
The whole point is to buy these players for a sell on. Carroll could end up being one of these. I would rather have a great players in the team than putting Carroll in for the sake of having a geordie in.
However dont get me wrong i would love to have as many in as possible but they have to be good enough, which i think lua lua will be – was actually disapointed he didnt play as much as he should of last year. Like the fact he attacks players and beats them unlike milner

Comment #30Perhaps if people stopped broadcasting who Newcastle were interested in signing, Newcastle might find it easier to sign people. (Why didn’t NUFC insist on the Modric deal being kept quiet instead of allowing it to be plastered all over the press, I do not know!)
99.9% of it is paper talk anyway.

Comment #31The whole thing about the transfer window: You can acquire a player’s signature once the season has ended (might actually be at any time, not too sure) but they don’t join you until July 1st, which us when the transfer window officially opens, and players can move to their new clubs.

what confuses me is that , we bid higher for modric and lose out on him.
and when we get the chance to sign a much better player ( watch out this space) , at a much lower cost , for the same position as modric , our board shies away.
I wonder what the problem is . I hope its not another turmoil with chris mort wanting to leave and so everything is in a standstill like last year .

Comment #37why we havent snapped the galatasaray presidents hand off now we have a quoted price for him i dont know. i think the muppets are starting to show themselves for what they are – incompetent. good points craig.
c’mon nufc! you want good young talent, at this stage you’re gonna have to spend! unless there’s a clone of arsene “whinger” wenger around. until we can find the 15 year olds and entice them to us, ashely’s gonna have to become cashley if he wants a team to compete in the champs league.
c’mon nufc, move your arses!

Comment #38gary mac….what you on about mate…gala prez says he is ours for 13 million, turan himself says he wants to come….christ man, even mort should be able to sort that one out – in this case the press have helped us, they have been told by the prez and the player that the deal is sitting there (and has been for a week) waiting to get done. the good thing is, at least we know that mort cant bullshit us now when he does not land turan! Now with barton finished, carr gone, ramage gone, ameobi as good as gone, owen/taylor/harper all running out of contracts plus the others that have left, does no-one else think we should be signing?? our squad is paper thin. all it takes is a few of the good ens to get injured at the euro s and we are out of it man.
bkk what is the point you are making exactly ? the deals are still getting done now ready for the window opening hence modric down the shitter etc and nasri to arse!! we are sitting around like a bunch of dicks.

Comment #39we don need loosers..Remy all the season in bench in Lens(They RElegated )and this guy seated all the time in bench(Lens didnt have striker all the year,if i was there may be i have more chance than this Remy boy)..they want to bring new shite to here..
we need Mario Gomez..or cheaper version Patrick Helmes( Fc Cologne)..
And if we have this 5 million why we dont raise our offer for TURAN and get him..and Owen and Martins are 100 times better than this REmy..
