Is Chairman Chris Mort Leaving Newcastle?

There was some strange news today, said to be reported in the Daily Mail, but we couldn’t find it, that Chris Mort would like to return to the Freshfields Law Practice, where he is Partner with the firm.

Chris Mort – does he want to return to the law practice?

Chris took over as chairman of Newcastle United last August, in order to conduct an overall strategic review of the business structure and finances of the club.

He has since made quite a few changes to the organization, including appointing a Vice Chairman recently, and also appointing Recruitment executives in Dennis Wise, Tony Jimenez and Jeff Vetere.

We think his position as Chairman was probably meant to be temporary until the business side of things was sorted out to owner Mike Ashley’s liking.

But it cannot be good for Mike to continue for too long working in Newcastle, with his wife and family still located in North London.

We’ll just to wait and see if this news is true, but if we do need to replace Chris, who we think has done very well, it’s probably good to appoint a football man in the job.

We’ve been very pleased with the job Chris has done this last year, which hasn’t been easy.

Certainly the club is in a much better shape, both in structure and business, as well as on the playing side, than it was a short 12 months ago. 😀

Comments welcome.

He is probably worried about forking out for so many rounds of drinks every time we win next season. Assuming we have some new players by then.

He’s rubbish anyway! I think he was appointed to help aid the new setup, thats all.

David Dein would be an amzing Chairman for us, and likely to attract Thierry Henry too. But I read it was the deputy chairman who is taking over!

Maybe he’s walked away because KK said the club had to keep Barton, and we all know Mort wants rid of Barton.

The Deputy is taking over, he previously ran casinos—the media will love that!

So, Mort was an interim appointment. Is there a Daily Mail beetle under a carpet in NUFC somewhere? I am recommending the Daily Mail for the next Booker Prize for fiction!!! The main issue is that the club’s finances are being stabilised by some, and the club’s squad is being stabilised and improved by KK. We all know what comes out of the closets at the Daily Mail – shite!

mort is going to go go and be replaced by Llambias. i know bugger all about him but i hope that he is better than more. Is he the guy invloved with casinos etc… if so that could be good, more chance of him reaching into his pocket for some NEW BLOODY PLAYERS!! i read today that due to our complete dithering and lack of intent at signing turan has now opened the door to frigging spurs yet again… this is very embarrassing now mort – you dick.

Some people have very short memories..

I reckon there’s some truth to the story though. Would love to see Dein come in..

what amazing job has mort done lads really, pls tell me cos i am confused. dont tell me he has apid ofthe debt chestnut again pleeeeese!! besides, ashley is the one who has bought us and saved us from financial ruin – not morty boy. from what i can see, they backed a manager in some funds they did not even appoint or want – fat sam, then sacked him right in the transfer window so we missed out on anyone and everyone. He then made a complete arse of getting a new manager in with ‘arry’ when he got a very public rejection on every news site in the universe. then brought in keegan which i will admit was good, but there again, it was ashley not mort, keegan himself has said so! then we mess up the woody deal. Then we fail to tie owen up desipte kk begging for it. that then causes the big meeting down london. on which, we still have not tied down owen/martins/harper and taylor. then we make a right pigs ear ofthe modric deal. and just to show we have learned nothing at all, we are on the verge of blowing the turan deal even though we know the price (and 13 million is not alot) and we know the player wants to come. he brings in loads of wankers in wise etc which have done nothing other than create friction with our manager. its rumored that he sacked one of keegans back room staff without even asking kk and put his own man in there in his place. we have removed the biggest draw for any prospective player from the contract process – KEEGAN, and replaced him with a bunch of cock ends that could not convince a drunken gazza to play for us. yep, i will miss mort that is for sure.
Now, its not all doom and gloom on old morty to be fair. the man is a bean counter and looks serverly anal retentive which has been perfect for probably ironing out our wehat were terribel finances, so as far as that goes…. i am imprsssed with that end of it………football though lads…….forget it. we need a football man to run a football club – i would love dein. his name alone will draw in the big names and that is a fact, the man commands respect. so all things considered and in summary, i thank ashley for savign us, mort for stabizingthe finances and i am glad he is going cos he is shite at footy affairs.

We can’t see the work Mort has done behind the scene and that does not mean that he is rubbish.

I would like to thank him for his short stay at the club and his effort. I believe we are now a better club than we were under Freddy Shepherd.

craig, you sound exactly like what every one of these tabloid papers has tried to make Newcastle to be…congrats for thinking for yourself.

i’m not sure why everyone thinks we need a “football man” as chairman, when everyone seems to agree KK makes the football decisions. in fact, last time we had a “football man” appointed to a position, it supposedly created friction with the manager (if you believe press reports)
