Peter Taylor has not accepted any position at Newcastle United, although he seems to still be interested.
Peter Taylor - Newcastle a very good football club
Peter Taylor told the Newcastle journal today.
“It’s a very good football club and anyone would be interested in working for a club like Newcastle. It is a big football club with a very high profile,â€
“There’s been no further discussions since we talked last week but at this stage I wouldn’t necessarily expect there to be.â€
“ As far as I’m concerned there is no time-frame that has been set aside for a decision to be made, and I’m not expecting anything to be said soon.â€
Taylor has been out of work since he resigned from his position as manager of Stevenage Borough about 3 weeks ago, after failing to guide them to a play-off place in the Conference.
Taylor certainly sounds enthusiastic at the prospect of joining a coaching staff that is being assembled by the board, to bring players through the Newcastle Academy system.
The club wants to put together a worldwide scouting team that Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea have and have enjoyed much success with.
Getting Peter Taylor as part of that set up would be a major appointment of course.
Peter continued:
“As I said, I had a cup of coffee with Dennis (Wise) last week and it was a good conversation, and it was interesting to hear what he had to say and hopefully for him to hear what I had to say,â€
“I have not discussed what the contents of that conversation were or what the job would entail but of course it is an interesting opportunity if something does happen.â€
We think Peter may be waiting for other offers that may take him back into high profile management. We’ll need to wait on this one, but Peter would be a great coach to have at the club, there’s no doubt about that.
And he likes working with Kevin Keegan, as he did when Kevin was managing the England side.

Wuold be a great addition, however like someone said on another article why are there more transfer upstairs in the board room than anything on the playing staff. Getting concerned, especially when you begin to see such articles as

however not that i trust tribal football as they go for every story they can think off - they must get about 1% of the stories right. So they just link one player with a different team each week.

Certainly be good to have him run our reserve team.
But I for one, think its about time Dennis Wise came out and gave an interview about his role and ambitions in it

hes a good coach and if we can get him he will be good, although a coach can only be good if he has players to coach… we are running very thin right now

Heading the academy is an important role these days and the appointment should be highly qualified coach. Taylor fits this bill especially with his experience at U21 level for England. You would think KK would accept this appointment, as he worked with him at national level, unlike the appointment of Wise!

He would be an excellant appointment to run the accademy. He has great experience in bringing younger players on to reach their potential.

I agree. The head of the football academy is a very important job. Just think, if we get it right we might be able to do a Man Utd and have a team with a lot of brilliant youngsters all coming through at once. Ok, I know technically Beckham wasn’t part of the ManU academy, but he was part of the team that wasn’t supposed to be able to win anything because they were just kids.

I met Peter Taylor a couple of times when he was Hull manager and he seems like a decent guy, really genuine and friendly. These are the kinds of people we need at the club and he has alot of experience too.
On the transfer saga(s) or lack of, international transfer window opens July 1st and alot of potential targets will be competing at Euro 2008 so instead of everyone crying into their keyboards let’s just give it 4 weeks before we start getting upset…

Yeah just what does DW do, I have often wondered that. Nothing seems to happen as regards signings, thought that was his job.

I think attentionshould be given to the coaching staff ……. many of the coaches have the came qualifications as coaches who run boy’s clubs….. how is this approach going to develop the footballers of tommorow……. having seen the set up at clubs such as man city, newcastle academy have got work to do but Peter Taylor would be an important start.
