Reports are just coming in that Michael Owen is likely to miss England’s upcoming friendlies with the United States and Trinidad and Tobago.

Michael Owen - has a virus and will miss two England friendlies
The English Football Association has confirmed today the Newcastle United striker has failed to link up with the National squad for the two end-of-season games coming up.

Owen was among 31 players called up for the the games by new England manager Fabio Capello earlier this month, but he is now expected to miss the matches. It is unlikely Michael will even accompany the squad to their games.

With several strikers already included in the England squad, manager Fabio Capello has elected not to call up a replacement for the Newcastle captain.

Spurs midfielder and former Newcastle player Jermaine Jenas, has been sent home because of an ankle injury.

Nine players in the England squad played in the European Champions League Final on Wednesday, and are due to link up with the squad tomorrow, having been given an extra day off to recover from the game.

Former England captain David Beckham will join up the squad on Sunday, after polaying tomorrow for the Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS.

England play the USA next Wednesday at Wembley, before then going to the Caribbean to play Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday 1st June.

Maybe this will give Newcastle ample time to ensure Michael signs a new contract at Newcastle, sooner rather than later - we hope so.

Comments welcome.

SPURS BIDDING FOR ETO’O FAILING.. (out-of-topic)

Also according to the Daily Mail, Tottenham’s hopes of signing Samuel Eto’o might be fading, as their offer of 107,000 pounds per week isn’t enough to suit the Barca man, even though the 24 million pound bid is negotiable.

Surely we could afford that kind of money? But think we wont be able to convince him to come to St James Park since we’re not in Europe.. Dammit

    Imagine Eto’o Owen Martins

Emre v everton gets my vote!

  • 13 John // May 23, 2008 at 12:09

think my favourite would have to be Emre’s screamer against Everton in the dying minutes…What a class strike.

Best goal was Owen’s first goal against Sunderland — a masterclass in timing your run and placing the ball in the only place the goalie couldn’t get it.

Best news since season finished - little shit cannot get injured now

  • 17 Newcastle United. // May 23, 2008 at 16:26

Exactly what I was thinking TomPoon. We might just have him fit for the start of the season. :D

maybe owens finally becoming a newcastle player rather than an england player first and a newcastle player second!

Owen can catch anything to not play. How come i never get a virus. If its not broken or pulled or twisted or limp and lame, its a virus. Has anybody told him its the close season and we (NUFC) don’t play then? Its OK Michael, you can be fit now and we don’t expect you to play. Rest up lad and get injured for the start of the new season.

107 grand +. that’s ridiculous money. Only Cheslea and maybe Man u can afford that. It’s silly to think we could. And why would he want to move here anyway? Think we need to be a bit more realistic. Also think a target bman is what we need, as we already have Owen and Martins.

Back to Owen and England - i have mixed feelings about him missing the friendlies. The England striker berth is really up for grabs, and to be honest there are no outstanding candidates. Although i don’t think Owen and Rooney is the best partnership, i have no doubt that Owen is the man for England - his international record speaks for itself. Will be interesting to see how Crouchs international career pans out after he leaves Liverpool…

my goal of the season is also probably emre’s vrs everton

there wasnt much to choose from to be honest. obas overhead was good also and owens against sunderland was also a well made goal…

owen wont get injured on int juty, which will mean he doesnt get stick off us… good times.
