News in the People today that Newcastle are interested in Chelsea’s Shaun Wright-Phillips.
Shawn Wright-Phillips – available at Chelsea
The England midfielder has never really been a first team choice since he moved to Chelsea from Man City in the summer of 2005, and it’s being reported that Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan wants to bring Wright-Phillips from his Chelsea obscurity to Newcastle.
Of course Kevin knows all about the player, since he manged him at Man City, during Shaun’s formative years, and we think he could get the best out of the player, who is probably a little disillusioned right now.
Once Chelsea appoint their new manager, to replace the sacked Avram Grant, we expect there to be a clear out of some of the players at the London club. Perhaps Newcastle could also pick up Wayne Bridge, who must be sick of playing second fiddle to Ashley Cole.
Wright-Phillips didn’t even make it on the bench for the Champions League Final in Moscow last Wednesday and Keegan has Wright-Phillips at the top of his summer shopping list, according to the People.
It’s said that an £8M bid from Newcastle would be enough to have Chelsea let their player go to Tyneside, and be re-united with Keegan, but we would expect competition from other clubs.
£8M sounds a good price to us, and of course Shaun is full of Premier league experience.
He played 153 times for Man City from 1999-2005, scoring 26 goals, and has played 81 times for Chelsea scoring just 4 goals.
Shaun, who is 26, has represented England 19 times with 4 goals.
What do you think?
