Newcastle May Bid For Cameroon Midfielder

The Evening Chronicle today is reporting that Newcastle United are believed to be in early discussions with Cameroon midfielder Achille Emana, over a potential move to St James’ Park.

Achille Emana – could end up at Newcastle United

Of course Newcastle are not the only team interested in the player.

Emana is at the French club Toulouse but the player has set his sights on new opportunities with a move planned to either Spain or England.

Emana, who stands 5’11” has played 226 games for Toulouse and scored 28 goals since joining them in 2001. He has represented Cameroon 10 times.

The fee mentioned is said to be £5.5M and one advantage we have is that he would join his Cameroon team-mate Geremi at Newcastle.

The player’s agent Thiery said today:

“Achille is ready to play in the Premier League and Newcastle is a team he would relish playing for.”

“He is strong and is a box-to-box midfielder who also possesses a lot of pace.”

“He has the right number of caps and the right amount of experience at 25 not to be overawed by the Premier League, which would be an exciting challenge.”

Emana’s international experience includes playing at both the 2006 and 2008 African Cup of Nations tournaments.

Achille played alongside Newcastle’s star Geremi in this year’s final, which ended in Cameroon being narrowly defeated by Egypt by a single goal.

Both Arsenal and Portsmouth are clubs also thought to be interested in the player.

We think he could be a good player for Newcastle.

What do you think?

“Achille is ready to play in the Premier League and Newcastle is a team he would relish playing for.”

looks like another agent banding up speculation to try get a transfer for his client to me. No comments from KK or from either club.

    just another summer rumour.

The little I know of him he seems to be a decent player. He could well turn out to be a replacement for Barton.

However, as this has come from the fantasy land that is Alan Oliver (he goes to Narnia for his holidays you know) I will believe this as and when it happens.

Looks solid, pacey and a good box to box player. Exactly what could help us! Why not try and make a bid.

Gossip. Show the man in a black and white shirt and I’ll give you my opinion.

It seems a lot of agents are using us as a sounding board to make a quick buck on their players. Thanks guys.

While the scouts are in Toulouse watching this guy, please take a good look at Johan Elmander as well and bring him to Newcastle!

Arsenal interested. An even bigger club (Portsmouth) also interested. He would make a good replacement for Barton. As recent experience shows with the press, agents, and our own “recruitment department” Tyneside is awash with pinches of salt! Believe it when I see him at St James (in a shirt!).

The same article says that International RIGHT BACK SIDNEY GOVOU is available, but as we have Beye then KK won’t go for him!

When did Govou convert to RB from playing as a ST/RW?

Just a thought about this blog.
I remember reading this site all the way through the Summer of 2007 and thought you were very well informed on the comings and goings of Newcastle United FC.
This website is in very real danger of losing its credibility due to the fact you seem to be running stories regarding every tom dick and harry that may or may not be joing us this summer.
Change of policy required i think, yes its nice to be first with these stories but be careful you dont end up like all the other websites in posting news items just for hits!!
PS IN general a very good blog and i enjoy reading it:)

I’m getting tired of these endless rumours. I honestly think we won’t be buying any players until Euro 2008 has finished.

Don’t know about Emana as a signing, but as for the position of central midfield i do believe this is an area we need players. If we go 4-4-2 we need back up for Butt. If its 4-3-3 then we are very short, as Barton’s future still in doubt. At the moment we lack the creativity / energy in the middle of the park.

Great, thats all we need, another African player coming, along with every other African in the French league, what happens when the African cup of nations comes along?

Besides, this is just another story his agent has made up so some Italian club like Lazio will snap him up.

WE ARE LINKED WITH EVERY PLAYER GOING. WE WILL NOT SIGN ANYBODY COSTING MORE THAN £10M. THE SPECUKLATION IS EXCEEDINGLY TEDIOUS. THIS TRANSFER NONSENSE IS HOT AIR. ROLL ON THE NEW SEASON WHEN THE QUALITY OF THS BLOG IMPROVES IMMENSELY. THIS BLOG IS CURRENTLY JUST A WISH LIST AND THE VAST MAJORITY WILL NOT BE COMING TO NUFC. ITS JUST NAMES AND NO SUBSTANCE.
