Newcastle’s Firm No To Liverpool Bid For Milner

There was some news in the Daily Star Sunday that indicated Liverpool were interested in signing Newcastle United winger James Milner.

James Milner – 22 year-old winger is going nowhere

But not surprisingly Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan wants to hold onto Milner, and all the other players still remaining at the club.

We think Kevin will sanction the sales of David Rozehnal and Shola Ameobi in the summer, and that’s in addition to Stephen Carr, James Troisi, Lamine Diatta and Peter Ramage, who will also leave the club.

Ashington-born Ramage has already signed with QPR, and that looks a good deal for Peter.

But Kevin will attempt to keep all his other players, even troubled midfielder Joey Barton, and bring in the 4-5 top players that are needed to make our squad competitive in the top 6 in the Premier league next season.

This summer transfer season will not be easy for the Tyneside club this year, because we’ve finished in the bottom half of the table these last two seasons, and we cannot offer any European Football next season.

We’re going to have to do the very best we can to bring in top players, and the fans will need to be patient. In fact it’s looking like most deals will now be done after the European 2008 Finals are completed, and these don’t start until June 7th.

It’s rumoured that Liverpool were willing to offer Newcastle cash plus players for Milner, but he is definitely part of Kevin’;s plans for the future at Newcastle, and Liverpool were not given much time with their bid.

The answer was a definite no.

Now we are all waiting for our first signing of the season ………..

if it had been crouch plus money i would have taken it but riise plus money wouldnt be happy because i think milner is a good right winger, who just needs a bit of competition

I think a fit and fired up Milner could be the difference between a good and mediocre season if we either get Viduka fit or buy another good holding centre forward.

    “4-5 top players”

    Yeah right…4-5 under 12’s maybe.
I will be surprised if we get 1 “top player” in this window the way Wise and Co dither around.

If you are a player and liverpool come knocking you would seriously leave Newcastle at this moment in time being brutally honest unless you are at man u or chelsea.

We can’t even tie up current players contracts in a decent time frame…

I agree with the positive comments on Milner. Remember the football under Big Sam, as dire as it was, Milner was the only shining light. He is one of the countries bright young stars and a key player in the under 21’s. Thats the under 21’s that went far in thier respective European tournament. Both Milner and Taylor shined. With so much rubbish being printed in the press recently, i hope this one is true.

as much as i hate to say this all the major clubs have already signed players they want for the next season or have some idea…while we ar running arnd like headless chickens..all the hopes i have for the nxt season is already evaporated…lost modic to tottenham..lost woodgate…we have to accept the fact that we arre not the preffered destination for players ouside the top four..maybe three years bac yes..but sadly now ..NO..screw freddie ..scre ashley..2 yrs in transition and we are nowwhere..we need a good traget man (crouch or zigic or even heskey..wud lov it if we get both) to hold the ball and a good creative midfielder(diego frm bremen or van der vaart frm hamburg or lulinha orkerlon or tomy kroos) and one more lb(bridge or shorey or riise )

Milner stays with us he is in Keegan`s plans so what i can say is that he wil b good 4 our 4-3-3 formation coz he used to play it wel under Big Sam with Owen in the centre forward position.

i hate how everyone is slating the scouting team.
How many players have actulally been signed???
Most teams will not sell till after euro 2008
and the transfer window in most countries hastn even opened!!!
We wont make the signings till august, and that is NORMAL!
only thing that worries me is owne and taylors contract, apart form that everything is ok

i love jimmy milner and i wouldn’t trade him for crouch tbh. the lad keeps his head down, fights hard, and doesn’t talk shite to the press. a model professional if i ever saw one. this lad is also very loyal to the club and has he ever questioned the way fat fred cancelled his tranfer to aston villa on the final day of the transfer window? one for the future definitely and potentially our heir to the right wing role that has been occupied for most of the past decade by nobby.

    jimmy the legend!

I reckon, milner could fit the rob lee mould perfectly. A central midfielder that bursts forward at every opportunity. I definitely think we will keep him, he is keegans type of player. Im really not bothered we havent got anyone yet, i have full faith in wise and co.

I just hope he does not get to 25 (same age as Ameobi) and we are talking about his (your favourite word Leo) potential.

Milner has been a highlight for me this season. He has been consistently good throughout the season, and i can’t say that about many of our players!

I haven’t seen any reliable source linking Liverpool (or anyone for that matter) with Milner, so i highly doubt if it’s true.

Lets assume for a moment that it is though – i would want Crouch in return. Okay maybe he’s not the ‘big name’ we are hoping for, but we have to be realistic that Eto’o etc are not coming here. Crouch on the other hand is available on the cheap (last year of contract), and is a proven premiership and international scorer. I really rate him!

Milner plus cash for Kuyt and Riise.
    Viduka out to reduce wages
    Buy in Sean Wright Phillips
Cuellar and Kris Boyd in for Smith plus cash(Rangers)
Dynamic attacking midfielder (suggestions – Aiden McGeady)

Not exactly eyeball bursting ambition but the basis of a strong top 8 squad.

I think Smith plus cash for Cuellar is a good idea if rangers have any interest in him at all. He has obviously been told he can not be guaranteed first team football so I’d hate to see such a so called ‘passionate’ player stay just for the money.

Milner is good but needs to work on his crossing and if we could get SWP I’d say he would be surplus

liverpool fans don’t even want Milner,if it is true ,it is because rafa is looking for a Kuyt replica who works so hard you can tell when you look at them but lack quality, when milner was in the team, Newcastle had the worse cross completion in the league so that tells its own story.

They should sell him if someone offers good money.

Again, I don’t know why Milner is so highly rated by the most on this blog. For me it is the first player who makes me nervous with his stupid dribles and his bad crosses.
He is an average player and we should look to replace him with quality. Ideal would be SWP or Pennant.

agree fully with you obafan..sell him right away if decent money is shown…some of you actually think that he´s one of the best young english players (!!)..hmm..if thats the case i dont know about englands future..
think we need new wingers,, on both sides! actually for me, the only players that MUST remain are beye, enrique, emre and martins..dont understand this desire to comment so much on who is coming and whos not. just wait and see…

Obafan- What a load of S—- you talk ( SENSE) I mean mate. He has great passion and work ethic . But he’s a Winger that crosses the ball 4 times a season-not required!

leather and swede1891 – Thanks for confirming my thoughts. I know I will have lots of contras on this one, but the passion alone is not enough to become a succesful player. Milner shows great passion, but it is weekly been showed that he is not good enough to scare the opposites defence.
