Newcastle Maintain Interest in Greek Star

May 27th, 2008 · 164 Comments

Newcastle United have watched Greek wingback or defender Vasilis Torosidis several times since January of this year.

vasilis-torosidis-1.jpg

Vasilis Torosidis - promising young Greek wingback

This must be the 5th player we have been linked with, and that’s just for today. :D

Anyway, we will track all players we are said to be interested in over the summer, and then see who exactly we end up with, but take the stories with a pinch of salt.

However this lad looks good, and this is not the first time we’ve reported Newcastle’s interest in the player.

The 22-year-old Greek International has also impressed Ibrox manager Walter Smith but Olympiakos are said to want £4M before they will allow him to leave.

Although other clubs are tracking the youngster, Newcastle are said to be favorites to get Torosidis and he seems to be the type the Tyneside club are after, as he will only improve as he gets older.

The 11-times capped player who stands 6’2” tall will play alongside former Rangers defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos for the Greek national team at the European 2008 Championships this summer.

The 22 year old is rated highly in Greece as an attacking full-back, and the boy has put in some excellent performances this season for Olympiakos.

His form this season has alerted a number of clubs with scouts from Juventus, Monaco, and Atletico Madrid also allegedly at the Karaiskaki Stadium this season to watch Torosidis.

Here is Vasilis’ playing record so far:

Years Club App Goals

2002-2006 Skoda Xanthi 76 3
2006- Olympiacos CFP 31 2
2007- Greece 11 0

Comments very welcome.

  • 8 Tom_Toon // May 27, 2008 at 21:14

    If this is true:
    - We are after him.
    - We are frontrunners.
    - They only want 4 mil.

and if this doesnt go through i will be very displeased, a player of this quality for 4 million is a snip.

  • 9 Ross // May 27, 2008 at 21:19

its a different player every 10 minutes, unbeleivable.
dos santos has agreed to join spurs? are you kidding GG7?..on loan possibly?

  • 12 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 27, 2008 at 21:23

11.9 mill is being said, turan is better than dos santos, dos santos is ok, he just overdoes things to much

  • 13 Ross // May 27, 2008 at 21:25

to be fair to them, modric and now (if its actually happened) dos santos. 2 brilliant signatures considering the window hasnt even opened yet.

legend Dabizas!!!, U gotta be kiddin mate, he was an average defender at the most… I remember Bobby slated him in the media because he tried to be Tony Adams and raising his arms to push the back line to an offside trap, and Bobby said “dunno what he is doing out there we dont even play with offside traps” lol

  • 19 Toon1978 // May 27, 2008 at 21:39

There are a few Greek player i like:

Tziolis and Torosidis are the two most promising.

Lagos was before his injury, Saligidis is good and Ninis will possibly be a superstar.

GG7 if we get this Gomis it will be a massive bonus but dint keep your fingers crossed his worth would of shot up even more now.

  • 38 Ross // May 27, 2008 at 22:09

snapping up gomis and turan would be unbeleivable, but i dunno what the chances of it happening are sadly

  • 39 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 27, 2008 at 22:09

his price wouldnt have shot up because they have set it at such a high price, john your comment made me really laugh then. are they building an army? lol

  • 46 Danny // May 27, 2008 at 22:16

We need to bid for somebody I reckon….Once one is in the rest should be impressed with the ambition!

Gomis or Turan should start the ball rolling….

Lets hope keegan and wise were at that france game…The bloody should have been! haha

  • 47 John // May 27, 2008 at 22:17

that emana guy does’nt look too bad…seen him score a goal from about 80 yards…Made beckams goal look pants

  • 48 Ross // May 27, 2008 at 22:20

they do look like theyve forgotten to sell! they’ll keep dimitar though, unless he ends up at man utd for some reason.
if we managed to get conformation of 2 of the 3 from gomis, turan and emana within the next month or so, i’d be pretty happy.

  • 49 Toon1978 // May 27, 2008 at 22:20

Ideal signings that would excite the fans would be..

    Gomis
    Gomez
    Arda
    Metzelder
    SWP
    Shorey or Riise

Even if we get ONE of those players i would be happy.

  • 52 John // May 27, 2008 at 22:27

gs fan is a bit like superman ..you call and he apears and clears all the speculation up :)

  • 53 GSfan // May 27, 2008 at 22:29

Right just going to translate the article linked by Martins. Btw that source is a well known sports newspaper in Turkey, though they do fill their pages with made up rumours every now and then (better than many of the other sources that have been quoted before though). The article is called “The Arda panic”.

In one week time or so Galatasaray is expecting board members of Newcastle United to knock on their door for Arda Turan once again. In the talks that happened during the past week Adnan Polat demanded about 16.5m euros for Arda. It is also known that Tottenham is interested for the player.

Newcastle United seem to be drawing closer to Arda. The English team’s representatives are closely watching Arda, even the friendly matches he plays in, and seems to have more of an apetite for him than before. The Newcastle board seems to want to make a move for Arda before the European Championships in case his price may go up too much.

  • 54 John // May 27, 2008 at 22:30

has anyone noticed that the newcastle official website has’nt been updated in about a month..

I wonder are they waiting to annouce something big soon..Like Turan signs for newcastle for life

  • 55 Ross // May 27, 2008 at 22:31

hadrian, spurs are trying to hijack who’s deal for dos santos?..its their deal is it not? :S
GG7, emana scores a few canny goals in that video like! the flick from the tight angle into the other side of the goal is a complete peach though

  • 56 Ross // May 27, 2008 at 22:32

    hahahaha john, that is hilarious
    “GS is like superman”

    next comment

GS fan-”right im jus gonna clear up the confusion here”

  • 57 GSfan // May 27, 2008 at 22:33

I have to add there are no other sources mentioning about Newcastle making a move right now in the Turkish press. Tottenham certainly hasn’t been mentioned at all anywhere else and if they’re really trying to keep their interest away from the press then, I’d say they’re doing a damn good job. There’s nothing even about Arda today, not even on the GS fansites. The latest talk seems to be about us signing Riise… sigh. I really hope we don’t get him.

And ye I’ll gladly translate whatever you like :D

  • 58 John // May 27, 2008 at 22:33

    quality reporting gs….

I really hope we sign this guy..If he’s anything like georgy hagi we would off signed a real gem…

Please god don’t let me wake up tomorrow morning , log on to bbc football and see Turan signs for spurs…I think my daughter would see my cry for the first time

  • 59 Toon1978 // May 27, 2008 at 22:35

Thank you GSfan how did you translate it?

  • 60 John // May 27, 2008 at 22:36

    lol ross…had a chuckle myself

  • 61 Ross // May 27, 2008 at 22:36

also, my thanks go to you GSfan.
well, apparently we still havent bid. we’re still not even 100% we want him, lol.
if it turns out there isnt actually any interest in him, then its been weeks of wonder, for absolutly nothing!

  • 62 GSfan // May 27, 2008 at 22:37

@Toon1978 - Well I’m a diehard Galatasaray fan myself, so ye in other words I’m Turkish.

And I have to say it’s np at all, just glad I can help fellow fans of the team that Arda might go to in the future :p

Btw this Greek lad seems solid. Though it seems you don’t urgently need someone in his position… I have to say though he might be a bargain for 4m.

  • 63 Toon1978 // May 27, 2008 at 22:37

John even if he does go to Spurs we would target someone similar or better Spurs cannot bye every player there is KEEP THE FAITH.

  • 64 John // May 27, 2008 at 22:38

I think Totenham are just been mentioned just to beef up the speculation a bit…..

They beat us to 2 players now so the press are jumping all over that now…

Spuds probably dont even know who Arda Turan is

  • 65 Toon1978 // May 27, 2008 at 22:39

aahhh cheers..GSfan do you think we will get Arda?

  • 66 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 27, 2008 at 22:40

CHEERS GS FAN, DID YOU HERE ME CALL FROM MY LOFT WINDOW, AND SEE THE GS SIGN IN THE SKY, MUCH LIKE THE BATMAN ONE USED TO BE. I HOPE TO GOD THE ARDA THING IS TRUE

  • 67 John // May 27, 2008 at 22:40

you must be a bit gutted if turan actualy leaves then?

  • 68 Danny // May 27, 2008 at 22:41

I tried to translate it word for word…yes I am sad like that!

Anyway I got pretty much what GSfan has just said…Looks like we have been bugging Gala about the deal o the table, lets hope they give in soon enough eh? haha

  • 69 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 27, 2008 at 22:42

GS FAN, MUCH LIKE IM SUPPORTING TURKEY IN THE EURO’S, U SHOULD SUPPORT THE TOON ASWELL AS GALA, MY LITTLE TURKISH MATE DOES, HE GAVE ME HIS TURKEY SHIRT WITH EMRE ON THE BACK

  • 70 SCOTOON // May 27, 2008 at 22:42

i agree wif hueva was goin bowt the offficial toon hmepage! aint been updated since Thursday? Friday? I hope we get Arda like along with Cuellar and Emana! I would also like to see Veloso Gomez and SWP arrive but they look very unlikely now! F*** Spurs they are jus nikin r players!!!!

  • 71 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 27, 2008 at 22:44

everyone seems in such a better mood now we have actualy heard abit of news, so gs fan, is that bit about arda from today? and also do you think he would choose us, from what you interprated from that interview?

  • 72 GSfan // May 27, 2008 at 22:45

I’d say Newcastle has every chance of getting Arda. In fact it’s all up to how much the Newcastle board wants him. If Galatasaray really did put up a 16.5m euro price tag for Arda then it’s pretty clear that it’s all down to the clubs that want him. The question is, like I mentioned in some other entry before, would it be better for the Newcastle board (and any other club) to gamble 16.5m euros for a player who ‘might’ (might being the key word here) be a star in the future? That’s all down to how they scouted this lad.

As for Tottenham being interested, I’d say they might just make like they’re interested in him so their rivals would have to increase their ‘bid premium’ thus forcing Newcastle to buy at a higher price. Stuff like this happens loads in business unfortunately.

  • 73 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 27, 2008 at 22:46

danny- i have tried doing it word for word a few times but got v. frustrated

  • 74 John // May 27, 2008 at 22:46

    I’ll second that gg7..Im a turk for the Euro’s also…
It will be even sweeter if we sign Turan and Emre signs a new 5 year contract..I know Emre gives the odd comeo in a black and white shirt but im sure if we actualy do sign Turan Emre would off been involved at some point and for that alone he would deserve a 5 year extension :)

  • 75 Toon1978 // May 27, 2008 at 22:49

GSfan you know your stuff you must be one of the good GALATASARAY fans the rest seem nuts but thanks for your info much appreciated

  • 76 GSfan // May 27, 2008 at 22:49

That bit about Arda is from today yea.

And yea I’m gutted we might lose this lad but during the season I always said to my friends “this kid’s too good for us. Foreign clubs ain’t going to let us have much fun with him in the future I’m afraid”.

I really hope you guys do get him, I’ll be supporting Newcastle in the premiership all the way then :D I just need to get myself used to some of the chants and get over there like I said before to see them play with my own eyes.

  • 77 John // May 27, 2008 at 22:51

scottoon that was my thinking also..There not even doing the day to day rumours on there anymore..

I have a feeling something big might be brewing, and then BANG the site is updated with a guy i don’t notice but has signed :)

  • 78 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 27, 2008 at 22:51

lol, i like emre alot, i just wish he wasnt injured constantly. i have said many of times that when he is fit, he is one of the best in his position, also, i remember in his debut, friendly, he cracked the bar with a free-kick from about 40 yards

  • 79 John // May 27, 2008 at 22:53

is he really that good then GS fan? I’ve heard hes like the great Georgi Hagi..But what you seen off him would you compare him to Hagi?

  • 80 John // May 27, 2008 at 22:57

I’m the same GG…think he is class when hes fit..I think that was against some italian Giant in some preseason game..Remeber that also..Class strike..He was brillant in the 2002 world cup when turkey came 3rd or 4th..

Shame now though..He seems to pick up injuries so easy..He always seems to grab he’s left thigh aswell no matter what the challenge was..

  • 81 GSfan // May 27, 2008 at 22:58

Well like I said before in another entry I would say it’s too soon to compare him to the likes of Hagi. Hagi was a true legend. Arda still needs to prove himself, like how Nihat and Hamit Altintop did so far in the international arena. Arda’s only achievement so far is playing the most important role of his team winning the title for one season. He needs to keep this up since he’s so young still, to be regarded like a Nihat or Hamit, let alone a Hagi.

  • 82 HATE PRAWN S'WICHES // May 27, 2008 at 23:00

GSfan thanks for all the translations!! its appreciated!
I dont no how the rest of you feel about Veloso that is if we could get him? what ive learned is he is a fantastic versitile player and could be played in three positions LB/CB/DM that in its self would be worth the asking price, and shore up positions if injures occur!

a player i would really love would be Mario Gomez!! to shore up the position left by Viduka when its cold, and wet. or when hes injured just probably a dream though!!

  • 83 Danny // May 27, 2008 at 23:01

Yeah it got pretty frustrating GG7…I gave up!

The odd key word I got was things like “panic” and “appetite”…as GSfan said!

I genuinely think we can get Gomis and Arda, If you make players feel wanted enough they will come! It is a step up for both players…I think they can bot be great for us! Not to mention we are at the front of the que for both of them…!

    Fingers crossed….

  • 84 John // May 27, 2008 at 23:01

can you see any similarities in how they play though? I know he’s miles away from what Hagi has achieved.

  • 85 GSfan // May 27, 2008 at 23:02

Meh Emre has become more vulnerable to injuries than before and this hurt him pretty bad. He has been really inconsistent this season yea.

Some of his matches for the national team earlier on in the season hasn’t been too good either. But in the matches he played good in he was just incredible. He gave the spark in our comeback against Norway at away, which was the deciding match that would take us to the Euros: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-agoWniceQ4 This is a very recent goal btw.

  • 86 John // May 27, 2008 at 23:03

Has’nt Gomis came out and said he’s staying at St Etteine for another season though?

Im sure that was reported a couple weeks back..

  • 87 GSfan // May 27, 2008 at 23:05

I can’t find much similarities between Hagi and Arda either. Sure there’s some but maybe I’m just thinking like this because of my huge respect for Hagi. Hagi was a playmaker and he was our best set piece taker by far. You would also expect incredible goals from Hagi, whereas I wouldn’t expect any strikes from the throw in line into the top corner from Arda :p Arda doesn’t really play such a role and instead he just loves rushing down the wings and become a menace for the defenders. He also loves to jump on any opportunity in the box even though he’s a winger.

  • 88 Tom_Toon // May 27, 2008 at 23:09

I think Arda is similar to Hagi, not in position but his ball control and how his body works with the ball (sounds bit gay, but you know what i mean).

  • 89 Danny // May 27, 2008 at 23:10

I think he may be staying in France John yeah….Im sure if we threw 60k a week at him and told he would be a starter he would be here in a jiffy!

He may just be saying hes gonna stay just to keep St Etienne sweet…

He cant be seen wanting away in case it doesn’t happen…

  • 90 Joe Toon // May 27, 2008 at 23:10

GG7 cheers for the Emana video, was far better than the crap youtube usually churn out! As for Emana, looks a decent player, and would add an industrial element to our midfield, and by the looks of things a few goals!

However he still looks a raw talent and a bit slopy in certain area’s if he was to sign im sure keegan could knock the edges off!

Turan would be awesome and would like to see Torosidis aswell, from what ive seen of him he looks a very moden day right back (pace and height)

    Roll on the good times!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 91 John // May 27, 2008 at 23:12

well..As long as he Menaces defences in the prem ..that would be good enough for me….

I think out off our current team the only players that really menace oposition at the mo is Martins, and Zog, soppose you could stick Owen in there aswell…

    but the more the better

  • 92 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 27, 2008 at 23:14

this day has gone from beckford to turan again lol, happy days

  • 93 John // May 27, 2008 at 23:16

very true Danny….He’s probably on about 600 quid a week at st Ettiene….

It would be quality too see someone like that sign soon..

  • 94 Danny // May 27, 2008 at 23:16

“this day has gone from beckford to turan again lol, happy days”

    Agree haha

  • 95 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 27, 2008 at 23:17

thats ok joe toon, he looks like a bit of alright doesnt he! especially his goal from about 646 yards

  • 96 John // May 27, 2008 at 23:17

GG7 , it will probably go back to Gardner tomorrow morning and some kid who plays for Bournmouth LOL

  • 97 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 27, 2008 at 23:18

put your money on inter to win champs league next year, mourinho is just about to be confirmed

  • 98 GSfan // May 27, 2008 at 23:19

Ye sorry for hijacking another entry :p Though most of the people who check this place out probably do during the day and get wasted/sleep at this time of the hour.

  • 99 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 27, 2008 at 23:22

nah wolves have vokes now mate, thank god. and as for bloody gardner, he is the worst thing since aids/ alan smith

  • 100 Hadrian // May 27, 2008 at 23:22

GG7 , he didnt manage that with chelsea did he :)
but i hope your right , he’s got some talent to work with at inter .

and what i meant by the dos santos deal is there gonna have an decent squad next season at this rate jumping on everyones transfer targets !
there stike duo already makes me green with envy , god knows what they will do with decent supply for a change .

  • 101 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 27, 2008 at 23:23

lol, i have insomnia coz of this site, i have nowt to do as i have just had metal plates put in my shin a month ago, so just have to sit near my laptop n ps3 all day, its getting boring now

  • 102 Ross // May 27, 2008 at 23:24

gg7, how’d you know mourinho is about to be confirmed?

  • 103 John // May 27, 2008 at 23:26

So you rate Gardner then.. Comparing him to Aids is bad , but Smith…Surely he’s not that bad

    f*cking Wolves …batstards..now i hate them aswell LOL ….

  • 104 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 27, 2008 at 23:26

they wont keep any of them happy, they all recon modric has an escape clause of 22 mill. sensible.

does anyone else ever wake up in the night and get tempted to come on here just incase we have signed someone or summin?

  • 105 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 27, 2008 at 23:27

mancini agent just said on goal, and its on alot of websites, inter will spend big now, imagine drogba and ibra up top

  • 106 John // May 27, 2008 at 23:29

Quality…We should stick in a 22 mill offer now and take him..That would be hilarious..

    Every night m8

  • 107 Hadrian // May 27, 2008 at 23:29

yeah gg7 , i check newsnow far to bloody much .

whats with the trend of raiding the french league lately aswell , all the frenchmen (africans) there you reckon ?

  • 108 Ross // May 27, 2008 at 23:30

i can very well see drogba going to inter, jose was the reason drogba loved playing at chelsea, he’ll go with him definitly, they’ll be brilliant.

  • 109 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 27, 2008 at 23:31

i couldnt imagine any other bunch of fans doing it, thats why we are great

  • 110 John // May 27, 2008 at 23:31

interesting seeing the votes on Barton on here..Its pritty much 50-50 ..I for one think he should be given a chance….

Cantona was given a chance by Ferguson when he kicked someone in the head live on TV ( how funny was that)and was’nt pissed

  • 111 John // May 27, 2008 at 23:33

Ross, the way Drogba talks about Morinho you’d swear they were in a relationship together..

  • 112 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 27, 2008 at 23:34

this just made me laugh, we got rejected to go to cheltenham haha

  • 113 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 27, 2008 at 23:35

i like barton alot, should be given another chance, wonder what he is doing right now llol.

  • 114 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 27, 2008 at 23:36

But with France labouring to create a meaningful chance, Gomis lit up the evening and gave Kevin Keegan a glimpse of what could be.

The St Etienne striker, earning his first international cap, fired the hosts ahead with an unstoppable drive and rounded off the evening with an acrobatic volley past Elizaga from Anelka’s pin-point cross.

  • 115 John // May 27, 2008 at 23:36

LOL ..he’ll probably be out in 2 months walking like John Wayne

  • 116 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 27, 2008 at 23:37

i hate drogba, but a bloody good player, i hate him for what he did for marseille against us.

  • 117 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 27, 2008 at 23:37

    lol…. the scouse john wayne

  • 118 Tom_Toon // May 27, 2008 at 23:39

Cant wait to see england get spanked by the yanks tomorrow.

  • 119 Ross // May 27, 2008 at 23:40

very true john, they were incredibly fond of each other, haha.
but to be totally honest, i thought jose was brilliant. his interviews were hilarious, his celebrations were brilliant, and he knew exactly what he was doing.
GG7, did you find that extract from a match review?..or are you just writing your own now and pretending you’ve found them online linking us with him :D haha (i joke)

  • 120 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 27, 2008 at 23:41

    england 5-2 usa

  • 121 John // May 27, 2008 at 23:41

LOL ..Hope he seriously is’nt damaged too much …good player when hes head is together….probably one off our most consistent in the last 10 games or so.

  • 122 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 27, 2008 at 23:42

setanta sports mate, i couldnt be assed to make comments like that up mate, far too long lol

  • 123 Leo // May 27, 2008 at 23:42

toro toro would be a cool thing to chant if he signed

  • 124 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 27, 2008 at 23:44

his work rate was fantastic, came close to scoring a few also, if he could get that bac in his game, he will be qaulity. he will come out of prison internally bleeding, but on a more serious note, a better man

  • 125 John // May 27, 2008 at 23:44

Glad to see the back off him really ross..Aswell as drogba..

I would love Wenger to leave Arsenal, Ferguson leave United and also go bust, Liverpool implode and Abramobitch leave chelsea in the shite..I reckon we’d be in for a shout for league title then :)

    Im aloud to Dream

  • 126 John // May 27, 2008 at 23:47

Very true..I think he’s Eye’s will be blood shot he will be bleeding so much internally..

But yea..If he does’nt learn a lesson from this he never will…Just needs to stay off the booze….

  • 128 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 27, 2008 at 23:49

lol blood shot eyes, i think he will llearn, i really do want to sign turan and gomis

  • 129 Spyro // May 27, 2008 at 23:50

i couldnt care less if dos santos signed for Spurs, his name is carrying him more than his actual performances. There are much better midfielders around.

  • 130 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 27, 2008 at 23:52

i think exactly the same spyro

  • 131 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 27, 2008 at 23:54

i wonder what shit anal bear oliver will come out with tommorow

  • 132 Hadrian // May 27, 2008 at 23:55

dos santos is still a kid ! he has years ahead of him to fine tune his game .
hatrick the other week aswell . henry was on the same pitch and you didnt see him doing that .

  • 133 Spyro // May 27, 2008 at 23:55

what is the current pounds to euro’s rate? i heard the pound is kind of weak right now

  • 134 John // May 27, 2008 at 23:55

Boys im Off to dream about Owen Lifting the champions League title to that music and 40,000 off us going crazy..

Hopefully we’ll see our first signing off many to come tomorrow..

    Talk to ya later

  • 135 Spyro // May 27, 2008 at 23:56

and when he does fine tune his game tottenham wont be able to hold on to him so it doesnt matter hadrian

anyway, if its about what a midfielder COULD become then there are many around now who COULD become superstars. However, the only one i can see doing this is Nasri

  • 136 Hadrian // May 27, 2008 at 23:59

but isnt that the whispers we are hearing about how our club is tobe run ?
i totally get what spurs are doing , buy players who they can sell at a profit and hold onto them as long as they can (carrick, maybe berba) , untill someday they break the top 4 and dont have to hold onto them .
if we are buying up and comming stars and not players winding down , then there is no chance we will be able to hold onto any of these players if the big 4 really want them , untill we break the big 4 ourselves .

  • 137 Daniel // May 27, 2008 at 23:59

    http://101greatgoals.magnify.net/item/PXGCT8Q0MDX5WDRB

Hell of a strike by Gomis for the first

  • 138 Hadrian // May 28, 2008 at 0:00

gomis second volley was great aswell

  • 139 Tom_Toon // May 28, 2008 at 0:02

Spyro, its absolutely shocking, i went out to get some euros for my holiday with my mates and its like 1.24 or something, 79 or 76p to the euro.

  • 140 Ross // May 28, 2008 at 0:05

    really tom_toon?
    thats a shocking rate

  • 141 Spyro // May 28, 2008 at 0:05

fair enough Hadrian…but we dont want to hear that, its tottenham remember lol

  • 142 Spyro // May 28, 2008 at 0:06

    @ tom toon

    fort so

  • 143 Tom_Toon // May 28, 2008 at 0:09

wait, just checked it, 82p to the euro. Still fairly shite. Heard on the radio it was 79.

  • 144 Daniel // May 28, 2008 at 0:09

Its a shame the only way we will get Gomis is if Keegan goes - apparantly he was the reason we havent put in an offer. He was on Wise’s list, Keegan went to see him and decided he wasnt good enough. If Marcelino comes the deal will be back on (or so I have been told)

  • 145 shirts // May 28, 2008 at 0:13

D’ya really think the yanks will win tomorrow?

  • 146 Tom_Toon // May 28, 2008 at 0:14

Dunno mate its quite possible, england are shockingly bad, the pundits were saying these recent performances were an mprovement but in all honestly it england still look crap and dont underrate the yanks they are good enough to win.

  • 147 Hadrian // May 28, 2008 at 0:16

if keegan went they would need messi to appease some of us :P

  • 148 shirts // May 28, 2008 at 0:21

I don’t even know who’s in the team for England or the US of A, to be honest. I’m planning on watching the game if it’s even on here… I’m in New York.

  • 149 Tom_Toon // May 28, 2008 at 0:22

    Hopefully Altidore plays.

  • 150 Daniel // May 28, 2008 at 0:23

I dunno, I hate the thought of losing KK, but at the same time its not beneficial to anyone having keegan pulling one way, and the rest the other. I dont see Ashley leaving, so it may be the only way forward

    Hope not though…

  • 151 shirts // May 28, 2008 at 0:25

He’s a good young player–big, strong kid too and still got some growing to do. I’d like to see how he does against better opposition, but the way you’ve written about England, maybe I wont’ see that tomorrow!

  • 152 Ross // May 28, 2008 at 0:26

i really dont know whats going on at the club to be honest.
i’d heard it was all wise and co doing the work (or lack of potentially), and that keegan wasnt having much say on the transferr front at the minute..who knows.

  • 153 Daniel // May 28, 2008 at 0:40

I think the old phrase “A horse by committee design would be a camel” is apt here - the person responsible for the team should be the one who decides who we need to sign rather than having to compromise on a “lesser” target with someone else

  • 154 Tom_Toon // May 28, 2008 at 0:43

I dont support england and i really hope england lose tomorrow.

  • 155 shirts // May 28, 2008 at 0:56

Well, I’m a New Yorker, so you know who I’m pulling for. I would be mighty surprised though…

  • 156 seetow // May 28, 2008 at 5:11

i personally think dos santos wouldn’t cut it in the premier league cos it’s just too physical over here for him. he belongs in spain where the players are more protected by refereees.

and i like this young wing back, beye’s heir! :D would be really gutted if we didn’t get him..

  • 157 steve // May 28, 2008 at 8:34

Wonder if Terry will start crying if England get beaten by USA

  • 158 ELFER // May 28, 2008 at 9:22

16.5 mil for TURAN is way to much…don’t want him for this much money!!!

Instead get fantastic GOMIS and EMANA and then go for this greek guy and a LB backup for jose and we will be extremely fine!!

  • 159 Midjew // May 28, 2008 at 9:56

The thing is about this greek guy is.

Ninis the 17 Year old is IN the Euro 08 Team

    BUT

This guy aint in the squad.

    Doesnt that say something?

  • 160 Tom_Toon // May 28, 2008 at 11:14

Ninis isnt in the Greek squad and Torosidis is!

  • 161 Ashton // May 28, 2008 at 12:08

I have seen Torosidis once in the greek cup final he was just amazing , the strongest RB i’v ever seen

  • 162 Ben_BKK // May 28, 2008 at 13:30

That’s 16.5 million EUROS for Turan, remember it was Turks going on about it, and they use Euros. Can’t be bothered to work it out, but it would be around 13 million pounds probably…

  • 163 irish_al // May 28, 2008 at 15:36

hopefully there will be a change to the exchange rate soon and we will get more value for our money (not sure its not going to get worse though)
