Turkey Beaten When Emre Gives Away Late Penalty

Turkey lost its second from last friendly game, in preparation for the European Championships on Sunday, in a 3-2 defeat to Uruguay.

Emre – gave away late penalty against Uruguay

The penalty was given away by none other than Newcastle’s midfielder Emre and Christian Rodriguez easily beat Turkey goalkeeper Volkan Demirel from the spot in the 85th minute, to clinch the win for Uruguay.

Turkey were twice in the lead during the game and cannot be too happy with the loss.

Arda Turan, who has been reported as being a target for Newcastle United, put the Turks ahead in the 13th minute, when he headed in a cross from Hamit Altintop on the right wing.

And then Luiz Suarez leveled for Uruguay from the penalty spot in the 31st minute.

Nihat Kahveci put Turkey 2-1 up with a nice swerving free kick in the 51st minute, but it was that man Suarez again, as he scored another goal in the 79th minute to put Uruguay level.

Then Emre made his mistake which cost his country the game in the 85th minute.

Turkey will play its last friendly against Finland on May 29th before heading to Switzerland for the European 2008 Championships, which take place from June 7th – June 29th.

Turkey will face Portugal, the Czech Republic and Switzerland in Group A of the Championships, and David Rozehnal of Newcastle will be representing the Czech Republic in the same group.

We dont want turkey to do well in the euro cup for two reasons. 1) More matches means more chance of emre getting injured and we need him fit for next season. 2)If turkey do well then arda will have more time to impress and big clubs will come in and get him. 🙁

I dont know if we do have an agreement with Arda or not. But if we did i am sure we could’nt complete the transfer until after the European Championship as a medical would have to be completed and which national team manager in his right mind would let one of his star players leave to complete this. I’m sorry boys and girls but IF this story is true then i wont be holding my breath for news coming any time soon. We have more hope in signing the home country players, due to the fact none of those players are good enough to be playing this summer!

Using the same criteria, we want the Czechs and Rozenthal to do well so we get a good deal for him. A lose/win for them is a win/win for us.

We need Emre to have a blinder at the Euro’s then hopefully some club will stump up some cash and take the waster off our hands.

The money raised, plus his wages, could be used to fund buying a good, young AM, who actually wants to play football. Unlike Emre, who only plays when he feels like it, or for Turkey.

Fill in the missing gaps (with either a player we have or a player we could realistically get). We need 2 people for every position…

not saying we will get all 7 (anyway we don’t need 2 players for each position for next season, as we are not in Europe), 4 of 7 and I’m happy, and Gomez counts for 2 🙂

    Shorey – £3 million
    Finnan – £2 million
Metzelder – £7 million (possibly try a loan deal)
    Mvumba – £4 million
    SWP – £9 million
    Turan – £11 million
    Arshavin – £12 million
    Doyle – £6 million

Unfortunatly this adds up to £54 million which is money i don’t hink we have. We could try and sell players for the money like:

    Geremi – £2 million
    Smith – £3 million
    Rozehnal – £3 million
    Duff – £2 million

so thats £10 million which could help sign players.

loved this result, and emre has definately gone up in my estimations….

for some reason when turkey were 1-0 up i decided to bet the 28 quid i had one on a previous bet on uruguay to win. looking back not the most sensible plan, but when emre gave away that penalty to lose the game, i went mental as it meant i walked away with £240.

not a bad result from a stupid bet!!!!!!

GG7 – The first article you wanted translated earlier just says that Galatasaray wants to hold onto Arda until next year for when he’ll get really expensive (15-20m euros as the article states) and keeps repeating that. But then it goes on to add that should Arda play really well in the Euros and a club comes up with a really nice offer then they’ll consider these offers.

As for the 2nd link you put up (which is from a newspaper that doesn’t sell much and I haven’t seen any info like that on any other source) says:

The incoming offers for Galatasaray’s players don’t seem to stop from English clubs. After Arda and Servet, it’s now Baris Ozbek that’s wanted by an English club. Tottenham came in with a bid of 3.5m euros for the youngster.

Adnan Polat, who said he was open to any decent offers for Arda earlier, rejected the bid for Baris Ozbek without even giving it a second thought. Polat said he found the bid really low for a player like Baris and added “Baris is a player who has a really good future. 3.5m euros for such a player is really low”. Tottenham, who are thought to be insistent on Baris, are expected to come with a new offer in the coming days.
