Turkey lost its second from last friendly game, in preparation for the European Championships on Sunday, in a 3-2 defeat to Uruguay.
Emre – gave away late penalty against Uruguay
The penalty was given away by none other than Newcastle’s midfielder Emre and Christian Rodriguez easily beat Turkey goalkeeper Volkan Demirel from the spot in the 85th minute, to clinch the win for Uruguay.
Turkey were twice in the lead during the game and cannot be too happy with the loss.
Arda Turan, who has been reported as being a target for Newcastle United, put the Turks ahead in the 13th minute, when he headed in a cross from Hamit Altintop on the right wing.
And then Luiz Suarez leveled for Uruguay from the penalty spot in the 31st minute.
Nihat Kahveci put Turkey 2-1 up with a nice swerving free kick in the 51st minute, but it was that man Suarez again, as he scored another goal in the 79th minute to put Uruguay level.
Then Emre made his mistake which cost his country the game in the 85th minute.
Turkey will play its last friendly against Finland on May 29th before heading to Switzerland for the European 2008 Championships, which take place from June 7th – June 29th.
Turkey will face Portugal, the Czech Republic and Switzerland in Group A of the Championships, and David Rozehnal of Newcastle will be representing the Czech Republic in the same group.
