Newcastle Interest In Two American Youngsters

There are reports today that Newcastle United may be interested in USA 18 year-old whiz kid Jozy Altidore, who plays for the NY Red Bulls.

Jozy Altidore – powerfully built young striker

There were reports back in December that Newcastle fancied Livingston, NJ born Altidore, who is already a powerful player for NY and is still just 18 years old.

He has played 42 times for the NY side and scored 17 goals.

Jozy stands 6’1” and is built like a tank, and has been outstanding in the MLS for one still so young.

There were persistent reports back in December and January, that Newcastle had been watching young Jozy, and reports were even originating in the NY press on the Tyneside club’s interest.

He is one of the top youngsters playing in MLS and is almost certain to move to Europe. Jozy has played 3 times for the full USA team and scored one goal.

The Sun today says that Kevin Keegan is planning a swoop for both Jozy Altidore and American midfielder Michael Bradley.

Midfielder Bradley is just 20 years old but has already been impressive at Dutch side Herenveen, last season.

He is also 6’1” and has played 59 times for Herenveen and scored 19 goals. He has represented the USA 14 times with one goal.

Bradley is in the 23 man squad selected by the USA for the game with England tonight at Wembley.

Jozy was included in the initial squad of 33 named for the 3 US friendly games starting with England (Spain and Argentina are the others) but did not make the final 23.

The US is now a hot-bed of young football talent, and we believe if we can get both these players, it will stand us in good stead for the future.

Our American readers in particular will be well aware of young Jozy, who’s looked great for New York in the MLS.

Comments welcome.

His scorring record looks fine to me 17 goals from 42 games that’s a goal every 3 games, I can’t think of many midfielders that have a ratio like that

wouldnt mind either … theres also a prospect of selling them on for big £££ in a few years time. im assuming these players fit the category of young players who can finish there education/development and then sell them on

Try Christiano Ronaldo. However, Ronaldo is a freak, and Jozy’s record of one in three is pretty good for one so young.

Might be worth getting hold of him while he’s only eighteen so he can get used to the hurly burly of the premiere league nice and early in his career.

Still, as Tom_Toon says, this link may only have appeared because England are playing USA tonight.

I’d say Altidore would be the better buy, but Bradley would probably be more likely. The MLS is pretty reluctant to let the younger players move abroad still.

I reckon that its likely the papers just stirring stuff up ahead of tonight’s match, though.

reading wanted altidore in january. but wed get him over them easily with them being relegated. arsenal and the toon are chasing eren derdiyok.

veloso could go to bolton for 16.5 million.

    my top 3 would be

    bafe gomis———great talent
    john arne riise—–just want him
    carlos cuellar——just want him

but im sure we will get 5 or 6 signings so id also get

    arda turan—————great tlent
    shuan wright phillips—unlikely
    edgar davids————-unlikely

one kid to have a look at is landon donavon ill be watching him tonight in the england usa match

Riise and Davids, I hope not. I am from Newcastle born and bred but i now live and work in Liverpool. The scousers and dying for someone to come in and get risse, they can’t stand him and i m ust admit i agree. He is lazy and can’t defend, that used to be overlooked when he was smashing in goals with h is left foot but now he doesn’t do that anymore. And Davids i’m afraid is over the hill and couldn’t cut it in the premiereship, The other 4 A BIG YES PLEASE ,

Donovan doesn’t have the guts to play at a world-class level abroad, unfortunately. When the US plays in Mexico, he generally folds like a cheap suit, and that seems to hold true for World Cups, too.

A shame, really. He’s got great talent.

anyway keegan should sign me up, i play 5 aside like a pro and scored a goal that peter beasdley would have been proud of yesterday, the whole tapping the ball between the feet. lovely.

Altidore was flavour of the month for quite a time last Summer. Serendipity really as I only asked about him again a few blogs ago.

It is hard to judge MLS players as their League is more championship than EPL (Sorry USA fans that is not a put down). But those that come here seem to adapt and do OK. I think he would be more in competition with our current youngsters than a first team walk in.

I told you we are scouting for kids..Ashley will not land any of the big 4 we keep mentioning..Spurs make another notable signing and we are chasing a pair of yank kids : (

Anyone got Fat Freds number he liked to back his managers…Ashley is nothing but a tight F..Wise is a prick and I am getting more pissed off by the day.

What is Owl head doing he looks like a prick as well.

    Show me the money.

Too many cooks making broth that tastes like shit.
