Emre, the Newcastle midfielder has been included in Turkey’s final squad of 23, for the Euro 2008 Championships to begin on June 7th.

Emre - makes full Turkey squad for Euro 2008
Midfielder Yildiray Basturk, defender Ibrahim Kas and striker Halil Altintop have been dropped from the provisional Turkey squad for Euro 2008.
The trio have joined striker Hakan Sukur as omissions for the tournament in Austria and Switzerland. Altintop’s twin brother, Hamit, has been included, after recovering from a broken foot in March.
Middlesbrough striker Tuncay Sanli is also included in the squad, as is the reported Newcastle transfer target, 21 year-old winger Arda Turan.
Right-back Gokhan Gonul of Bayern Munich has been forced out of the squad after bruising a metatarsal in his right foot. He sustained the injury against Belarus on 26th March and was sidelined for the rest of the German season.
Turkey will play a friendly against Finland tomorrow, before taking on the Czech Republic, Portugal and Switzerland in Group A of Euro 2008.
Turkey Squad:
Goalkeepers: Volkan Demirel (Fenerbahce), Rustu Recber (Besiktas), Tolga Zengin (Trabzonspor)
Defenders: Gokhan Zan (Besiktas), Sabri Sarioglu (Galatasaray), Emre Asik (Ankaraspor), Servet Cetin (Galatasaray), Emre Gungor (Galatasaray), Hakan Balta (Galatasaray), Ugur Boral, Gokhan Gonul (Fenerbahce)

same goes to Emre ………..
Well done to Habib, well deserved. hope you stay as long as you wish.

is this good news or bad news ?
3 Bill F // May 28, 2008 at 18:46
What I want to see is Emre in the Toon squad and actually playing.
Still good luck to him in the Euro’s.
4 Mad_Magpie // May 28, 2008 at 19:02
I was watching him against England in 2004 for Turkey on ESPN Classic and you could see his potential back then, shame he hasn’t quite lived up to it, in a Newcastle shirt anyway. I’ll be supporting Turkey, seeing as he is our only player there, assuming Rozehnal wont be returning.
5 Frankieboy // May 28, 2008 at 19:07
Lets hope he stays injury free comes back with a few games under his belt and has a head start on fitness pre season and then starts next season flying playing alongside Turan
6 ToonKing // May 28, 2008 at 19:21
my thoughts exactly Frankieboy.
7 HATE PRAWN S'WICHES // May 28, 2008 at 19:56
Hope he does well for turkey, and come back without injuries!! I agree hope he’s hyped up NUFC to turan!! love to see both in a black and white shirt next season!this will also make it easier if we got Turan to settle quicker!
8 Tom // May 28, 2008 at 19:56
come on turkey!
9 ED // May 28, 2008 at 20:01
I hope turkey do well, but i’ll be supporting Spain. It’s a shame how few of our players are in the tournament.

17 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 28, 2008 at 20:32
such a well worked free kick
18 GSfan // May 28, 2008 at 20:39
Just want to make a slight correction :p
You have 24 names up there in the list. Gokhan Gonul is also out cuz of injury (unfortunately, he was arguebly the best defender we had). Oh and he doesn’t play for Bayern Munich, he plays for Fenerbahce.
19 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 28, 2008 at 20:40
gutted. you watching the england game gs fan?
20 GSfan // May 28, 2008 at 20:42
Ye, I’m rooting for England. I’ve lived in the US for 8 years before and those guys hate football for all it’s worth.
21 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 28, 2008 at 20:44
its stupid because us if it was there first sport they could be one of the best of the world.
what you think of turkeys chances in the euros?
22 Tom_Toon // May 28, 2008 at 20:45
Turkeys chances are slim because they are going to get thrashed 7-0 by the mighty portuguese on the first day!
23 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 28, 2008 at 20:46
great header
24 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 28, 2008 at 20:47
2-1 turket nihat and emre to score
25 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 28, 2008 at 20:48
why is bradley playing the holding role tonight?
26 Tom_Toon // May 28, 2008 at 20:48
cos hes a defensive midfielder.
27 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 28, 2008 at 20:48
beckham 2-0
28 GSfan // May 28, 2008 at 20:49
Haha, well I sure ain’t hopeful for the first game against Portugal. A draw would be great. Everything will shape up in our friendly against Finland tomorrow since that’s going to be our final preparation before the Euros. I’m just hoping we bring our first team up against em.
As for the whole competition, I’d be more than happy if we make it out of the group stage tbh. We’ve got too many young players. At least this will be a nice experience for them.
29 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 28, 2008 at 20:49
iv never seen him play there, iv always seen him more attacking
30 GSfan // May 28, 2008 at 20:50
Gah I was gonna bet on Terry scoring first. Saw some 18-1 odds for it… A shame.
31 Tom_Toon // May 28, 2008 at 20:50
well hes box-to-box, but more defensive than attacking.
32 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 28, 2008 at 20:51
He plays as a defensive midfielder for the American national team, and in an attacking midfield role for Heerenveen. thats why!
33 Tom_Toon // May 28, 2008 at 20:52
Nah it just looks lke hes an AM in the dutch league because it is so poor.
34 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 28, 2008 at 20:53
i always put terry to score first in england games, well good odds. i only normally do it dor big games though. biggest odds are on a.cole lol.
35 Geordie Nick // May 28, 2008 at 20:54
he does play AM for heerenveen
36 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 28, 2008 at 20:54
it is a shit league, thats why i seriously doubt huntelaar
37 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 28, 2008 at 20:56
john terry has the smallest eyes, he looks chinese
38 Tom_Toon // May 28, 2008 at 20:56
He plays as a cm, but he can just attack more in the dutch league because of its poor quality.
39 figsdad // May 28, 2008 at 21:00

46 figsdad // May 28, 2008 at 21:26

53 Tom_Toon // May 28, 2008 at 21:37

its a friendly, numbers are all muddled
60 Spyro // May 28, 2008 at 22:29
why are the press trying to act as if terry’s goal today made up for his penalty miss, it doesnt at all, this is a pointless friendly and that was a champions league final, complete opposite ends of the spectrum
61 John // May 28, 2008 at 22:41
Alright boys,
Have we signed Turan yet LOL ….Everyone see the shit game then
62 daiv // May 28, 2008 at 23:21

You are all over these blogs and you call me boring and negative. Are you one of these uni lads living in far off places? I’ll compare my CV with yours as a toon fan any day….. and win . Have you got the bottle to reveal yourself?
63 obamagic // May 28, 2008 at 23:23

great emre io wud put £20 on emre come bak injured and i aint no gambler
66 daiv // May 28, 2008 at 23:39
Spyro,
All i can hear is silence.
I’ll tell you about me
Geordie who has been watching NUFC for 45 years. Currently living in Essex and am season ticket holder. Go to away games. Never seen NUFC win a domestic trophy.
Always supportive at matches.
My backgrounf gives me the right to be critical on this blog. The club has been badly run ages and I am right to say so. This blog is obviously subscribed by the younger generation who believe that everything is gong to be rosy and MA will spend millions because he loves the club. I beg to differ.
I think it is time to sign off on this blog and leave the younger daydreaming element on this blog, thinking of signing £20M plus players, to dream on, wherever you are in the world.
I’ll be at NUFC next season. Where will you be Spyro?
67 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 28, 2008 at 23:44
well done daiv, u deserve a medal mate
68 Spyro // May 29, 2008 at 0:14
look at that, i go for a while and come back to this, lol.
Daiv there is only one problem…i dont care about your history. i simply do…not…care.
your moaning is off putting and you constantly complain about the same thing. change the record and stop trying to spread your pessimism.
And yes i am one of those “far off places” people
69 Spyro // May 29, 2008 at 0:20
if your going to respond you will have to do it within the next 30 or so minutes daiv the pessimist, i have got to drive to “uni” early tomorrow
70 Tom // May 29, 2008 at 2:46
thats enough of the personal attacks i think we’re all newcastle united fans and no matter what colour, creed, or “cv”, weve all got a right to our own opinion.
71 Leo // May 29, 2008 at 3:02
daiv it doesnt matter how much you have been to games etc, doesnt mean you can have a negative opinion
and then shoot someone down for having one.
end of arguement.
72 The Entertainers // May 29, 2008 at 7:34
One thing that does strike me about the Turkish squad is how many homebased players there are. With the strength of the Turkish and Greek teams over the last decade, this has to be a bit of an untapped market for players. One thing players from this area also have in common with the geordie fans is passion. Well i’m off to change my name to Stavros and eat a donner kebab!
73 staffsmag // May 29, 2008 at 9:07
Just read that Portsmouth are preparing a £10 million bid for SWP. Come on wise and co. dont let us loose out to old saggy faced harry !!!!!
74 Eric // May 29, 2008 at 9:10
Hope Emre stays with us, remains injury free, and KK gets out of him what he is more than capable of.
With luck Emre can make Turan decide NUFC is also where he wants to be.
75 ronaldeano // May 29, 2008 at 9:15
Staffsmag, it all paper twaddle bullshit mate!
76 Eric // May 29, 2008 at 9:30
I have seen Newcastle win 3 domestic trophies in the time I have been a fan. My dad cleaned the boots of those who won the league in 1926-1927.
Now that is what is called patience. KK will find players who will become “names” - those who become heroes with NUFC not with other teams. Just like that American baseball film where this bloke built his own pitch. Our stars are with us and the rest are on their way. By the way another team is after SWP. Guess who? Portsmouth!!!
77 Midjew // May 29, 2008 at 10:24
SPURS HAVE ANOTHER PLAYER
DAMN IT
http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_3623888,00.html
and he is REAL good,
As he is a Left Winger HOPEFULLY this means Turan will be ours.
78 african-kenyan-ronniezog // May 29, 2008 at 14:39
guess i’ll be supportin turkey in euros .And kk s’d know that Emre is the only creative midfielder that we’ve got, wish him all the best and i want to see him score for the turks so that he can shine for the magpies next season.
