Newcastle Maintain Interest In Nantes Young Defender

May 29th, 2008 by Ed Harrison · 64 Comments

Newcastle United will continue to keep tabs on 18 year-old Aristote Lusinga at Nantes.

fc_nantes2008.jpg

Newcastle have been interested in the Nantes youngster for a while now, and although he signed a three-year contract with Nantes yesterday, we wouldn’t be at all surprised if he ended up on Tyneside before August is out.

The young center-back resisted interest from Newcastle to sign for the French club, but that is unlikely to put off Newcastle if they believe Lusinga is worth bringing to Tyneside.

We signed 5 top class youngsters in January, and Aristote seems to be the latest emerging star we are after.

The 18 year-old top prospect is expected to attract a reasonable bid from Newcastle, and he could be the first youngster to be captured by the club in the summer transfer window.

Aristote is 5′11″ tall, and turned 18 years-old only last February.

Newcastle have yet to make an offer for the player, but it wouldn’t take much to bring the player to Newcastle, and we think the lad would be another good investment for the club.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

i think its getting boring now! there is no stories coming out of newcastle worthy of note at the mo. How about we all relax, go on holiday and log back on at the end of the transfer window and at least by then we can actually discuss the people who will actually be wearing the black and white shirt

  • 2 Marat18 // May 29, 2008 at 14:34

it seems that KK or DW are spending their holidays in France, so we are linked with everyone who ever kicked a ball in that region.

cannot wait for euro starts - tired of all these speculations

  • 7 Marat18 // May 29, 2008 at 14:56

    born and bred in russia.
no, I wasn’t, no Newcastle in the final - then there is nothing to pay for.
i’ve found a better use for that money - going to Newcastle next season. hopefully.

    seriously Arshavin would be good,
Pogrebnyak (big cf) of Zenit did well this season, but still has a lot to prove. we will see.

    cannot think of anyone else.
may be Akinfeev (gk), but had a major injury last summer, don’t know if he will be back to his prime.

  • 10 Punk Skunk // May 29, 2008 at 15:03

    Yea man,
    i’d love Arshavin & Pogrebnyak!..
    …D’y'think they’d come to NUFC & KK?..

…Also, i think those in your link would be excellent signings bro’, they’d defo stop other teams attack in their tracks…Lol!..

  • 13 THELONGSHANKS // May 29, 2008 at 15:09

Akinfeev is a great goalkeeper,if we needed one . he is class and a big team will sign him in the future.

  • 14 broon ale // May 29, 2008 at 15:10

marat, i nearly fell off my chair with that link. russian girls are beautiful. even that awful band tatu are pretty hot. how come you ended up supporting newcastle marat?

  • 15 Geordie Nick // May 29, 2008 at 15:17

what a suprise, a player we supposedly want but we are ‘yet to make an offer’

  • 16 Marat18 // May 29, 2008 at 15:21

I do believe Shava and Pogreb would come if Newcastle is keen to bring them in.
EPL is by far the most popular league in Russia and always considered as an example to our football.

i started supporting Toon in 96 after Euro’96 in England.
Our team was sh!te as usual, then I supported England and then it turned to supporting Newcastle after Alan Shearer’s transfer.
little by little I became a huge fan :-)

  • 17 broon ale // May 29, 2008 at 15:24

marat, are you planning on visiting newcastle? I live in the city centre so I would be glad to show you round. Make sure you bring some hot russian ladys. :)

  • 18 Marat18 // May 29, 2008 at 15:27

btw, who will have more chances to score with those lass in our team? :-) Toon or our opponents?

  • 19 Ppg (Toon Army Poland) // May 29, 2008 at 15:27

Marat18, we are planinig to visit Newcastle in November, so maybe U want to come with us:D, we were on NUFC-czelski match this season. Now we are planing to make a Official Fan club from Poland. Maybe we can co-operate with our brothers from Russia :D

  • 23 Marat18 // May 29, 2008 at 15:56

    broon ale,
forget it. may be it was a bad joke.

as for Newcastle journey, 3-4 lads(may be more) from our local fan-club are desperate to visit SJP and one away game next season. Hoppefully we will sort it out. Of course your help will be appreciated :-)

  • 24 Frankieboy // May 29, 2008 at 15:58

I got BBC weblink dated yesterday , all legitimate they reckon. More chance of Shearer signing for Makems

  • 25 Ben_BKK // May 29, 2008 at 16:00

nah I thought it was pretty clever what you did with the site, it just doesn’t seem to work when someone else does it haha

  • 26 SééBéé // May 29, 2008 at 16:01

Even though I don’t know this guy, I’m happy that we are looking at top potential youngsters. I would rather see 5 future stars come in this summer then to see someone like Thierry Henry coming in. Although Henry is a great player he is past his prime and we should be building for the future investing in top youngsters.

  • 27 Frankieboy // May 29, 2008 at 16:02

Marat18 I know of 52,000 who will be willing to help you out.

  • 30 Marat18 // May 29, 2008 at 16:11

    Frankieboy,
    btw,
last summer I met 2 geordies in Irish pub in Dusseldorf (Germany) during Bolton-Newcastle game in august.
Lovely blokes, had season tickets. Well, at least one of them had.
If they are reading or you know them - then all the best to them!

  • 31 broon ale // May 29, 2008 at 16:18

MARAT, how is your english so good?

  • 32 Leo // May 29, 2008 at 16:19

yes get as many promising youngsters in by all means but if our club thinks for one minute we will live off them soley then we will be in trouble.

  • 33 zhun // May 29, 2008 at 16:23

    im 17 , from Malaysia!

  • 34 Frankieboy // May 29, 2008 at 16:28

Aye leo remember what Mr Hansen said a few years back….”you don’t win nowt with kids”
It all bodes well for the future of the club tho.
A mix of seasoned pro’s and a couple of eager talented young ‘uns usually works well.

  • 35 Eric // May 29, 2008 at 16:33

Hey Broon Ale. Is the site you say a joke? It comes up as a BBC News sport page saying Torres has signed for NUFC and has the number 9 shirt once worn by EX-forwards Shearer and Martins. It has got to be a scam surely?

  • 36 Frankieboy // May 29, 2008 at 16:36

Methinks somebody’s havin their plonka pulled.

  • 37 broon ale // May 29, 2008 at 16:43

eric, its a joke. had you going though :)

Hello Zhun from Malaysia! What got you into newcastle?

  • 38 seetow // May 29, 2008 at 16:49

hehe i’m 17 from singapore! :D so many asians turning up at this site eh?

  • 39 broon ale // May 29, 2008 at 16:53

so newcastle are popular in asia? the club should take advantage of that and do a pre season tour again like we did when keegan was here last.

  • 40 YongMalayisa // May 29, 2008 at 16:57

hi, any who wan add me to their msn or yahoo.msg. so we can chat also.

    plz add me frankyongfc@hotmail.com

nice to meet you all here.

  • 41 Zhun // May 29, 2008 at 17:01

    I just like newcastle united
Maybe its because of alan shearer
And i remember well when nufc came to Malaysia when i was 12
    I watched it live!
But im too young to get there
    I mean newcastle
But surely i will watch a match at st james’ park one day (my dream)
    With my fiancee mayb? :)
What annoys me is all of my friends support top 4 teams
    They underestimate us!
But im still proud to say that im a Newcastle united fan!

  • 42 Marat18 // May 29, 2008 at 17:03

    broon ale,
im spending a lot of time on Toon’s message board :) So, I even learned some geordies word, which you cannot find in usual dictionary :-)
but come on, my english isn’t that good. bunch of foreigners on this site speaks much better eng.

so honestly it’s 50% english, 50% foreigners on this site, isn’t it?

as for link above - anyone wants us signing Kaka tomorrow?

  • 43 ObaFan2 // May 29, 2008 at 17:45

    50% Geordie, 50% foreigner ? lol

  • 44 Mehzeb // May 29, 2008 at 17:54

    My choices:

    RB: Vasilis Torosidis

    CB: Carlos Cuellar

    LB: Nicky Shorey

    DM: Achille Emana

    RM: Arda Turan

    LM: Aiden McGeady

    ST: Mario Gomez
    or
    ST: Bafetembi Gomis

Please. Let’s get these guys and some youngsters, and hope for the best next season.

  • 45 Tom_Toon // May 29, 2008 at 18:18

Emana is more of an AM than a DM, although he is box-to-box.

Why buy Shorey if you get Torosidis. Torosidis plays LB, RB and DM also CB and both wings if needs be.

  • 46 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 29, 2008 at 18:28

    nothing happening yet again?

  • 47 ToonKing // May 29, 2008 at 18:36

    nope

  • 48 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 29, 2008 at 18:38

    soooo boring.

  • 49 Tom_Toon // May 29, 2008 at 18:38

ToonKing - Thoughts on Florin Costea (asking cos i saw he said he would never play for another romanian club only abroad, and they only want about 2 mil for him) and Igor Burzanovic.

  • 50 ToonKing // May 29, 2008 at 18:55

Costea is very good, Steaua want him but he’s staying put.

I haven’t seen much of Burzanovic, all i know is he’s an AM. but if were allread in the area i would much rather have Zoran Tosic, he’s great and i think younger then Burzanovic.

  • 51 Tom_Toon // May 29, 2008 at 19:07

but Tosic is a left winger and Burzanovic is a playmaker.

How good is Deac whos was in the romanian squad? Never seen him play.

  • 52 ToonKing // May 29, 2008 at 19:25

    me neither :)

  • 53 Tom_Toon // May 29, 2008 at 19:31

Adrian Cristea looks a pretty decent midfielder.

  • 54 Oleg G // May 29, 2008 at 19:49

    Hi toon fans. And Marat…

I am russian too, well, X russian, I am Israeli now… well, right now I am writing from Brazil, live here for the last 4 months.

Supporting NEWCASTLE from all over the globe. But actually I’m a little bit angrey, so many rumors, no signing, and nothing solid.

Also saw the game with Gomis on the french squad. He is good, but only in my dreams I see him in Newcastle.

  • 55 ToonKing // May 29, 2008 at 20:56

he’s more like a striker-winger and he’s average at best.

  • 56 Tom_Toon // May 29, 2008 at 21:13

Aye, ive seen him play on the wing, thats in midfield.

  • 57 totsy // May 29, 2008 at 21:27

i cant believe how boring this transfer window has been there been no real bids made by newcastle for any player….when will this boredom end!!!!!!!!!!

  • 58 Danish_Magpie // May 29, 2008 at 23:15

While I wouldn’t believe the Torres thing even if it WAS on BBC, it was a good laugh none-the-less :-)

It does seem there are a few of us foreigners on here. As for how you start supporting NUFC abroad, it seems a good share of us started in the early-mid 90’s. For me it was the flowing football of Keegan and then the signing of Shearer who was my favorite player (and indeed amazing at Euro ‘96). That England team was cool btw.) I think once you get ‘hooked’ you just become a bigger and bigger fan.

Marat, I visited St. James’ park for the first time in December, and it was awesome. Well worth the plane ticket, car rental etc :-) I saw Nufc-Brum, so I am one of just a few people to have seen Fat Sam win a game at St. James’ :-) No seriously, get tickets for a game like that and they will be available and affordable.

PS: Any of you foreigners find yourself supporting England almost as much as your own country? In the last few intl tournaments I think I have been as emotionally invested in the England games as the Denmark games. Not really sure how it developed… I just think when it comes to football, I’m a wannabe englishman. :-) English football is just the best, and the EPL is the most entertaining league in the world. The English mentality, speed of play etc. is class. Spain is maybe more technical but I just love the end-to-end, throw tactics in the wind footy :-)

  • 59 Danish_Magpie // May 29, 2008 at 23:24

BTW. Tom_Toon, wouldn’t mind us signing Shorey AND our Torosidis. Considering he can play RB and DM, He would be useful even if Shorey and Enrique shared the LB spot. Right now, if Beye gets injured, we don’t have much cover (I know we have Geremi but then we don’t have much midfield cover…):

    Shorey 2.5mm
Crouch 9m (+extra if UEFA cup for us)
    Arashavin 9-11m
    Christian Poulsen 8-10m
    Upson 8m
    Torosidis 4m
    = 42.5m

    to give us:

    GK: Given, Harper, Foster/Krul
    RB: Beye, Torosidis
    LB: Shorey, Enrique
    CB: Upson, Faye, Taylor, Edgar

    RCM: (Barton), Milner, Geremi
    LCM: N’Zogbia, Emre
    DM: Chr. Poulsen, Butt

    Deep Striker: Owen, Arashavin
    Striker: Oba, Crouch, Viduka, Carroll

This implies I would send Lua-Lua and Krul/Foster out on loan and get rid of:

    Smith 5m
    Duff 1-2m
    Ameobi free
    Cacapa free
    Rozenhal 2m
=8m + lots of saved wages

Net spending of 35-40m including fees, for what I think is a top quality team..

This is assuming we stick with the 4-3-3 btw.

  • 60 Tom_Toon // May 29, 2008 at 23:27

Danish - Torosidis plays LB aswell though! And it will give the excuse to blood some youngsters.

  • 61 Danish_Magpie // May 29, 2008 at 23:30

I guess so, Tom_Toon. I just think we need depth if we are serious about pushing for Europe. And I can’t resist a good deal, and taking advantage of Reading’s situation to snap up a fringe England player approaching his peak for a position we have struggled to fill… sounds like a deal to me :-)

  • 62 Tom_Toon // May 29, 2008 at 23:36

Is Kahlenberg good enough for us, i think he’d be a good very realistic option to a creative midfielder, and fairly cheap.

Lets face it we arent going to get the van der vaarts, diegos and the likes. So is he the next best thing to them?

  • 63 Leo // May 30, 2008 at 1:15

danish magpie i must say your english is impecable *claps hands* i wish i was good with languages

im only good at gibberish, and btw it is a real language and everyone can speak it once they know how haha… download the song by cassius henry called gibberish

if we were in school and there was someone who wanted to talk in private we used it and people have no idea lol. but its soo easy once you learn it.

  • 64 Danish_Magpie // May 30, 2008 at 8:56

Haha. A couple of girls did that at my school back in like 7th grade or something. Was well annoying because I obviously fancied both of them.. :-)

Thanks for the compliment, Leo. To be fair, I spent 4 years at uni in the US, though I’m back in Denmark now.

Tom_Toon: Yes, Kahlenberg would probably be good enough for us as a creative midfilder. He won’t set the prem alight like Elano did, but he is really good technically has good passing. Might be worth a shout, if cheap. I just think we need Chr. Poulsen more. He really is one of the best DM’s in the world I think. Not saying he is one of most gifted players, but in terms of getting the DM job done of stopping opposing teams, being a nuisance, and not losing the ball once he wins it, he is great. He has been tracked by Barca so it may be difficult, but with the right money, we could tempt him..

Btw. Bendtner was awesome against Netherlands yesterday. I’ve always really liked him and if he ever wants to leave Arsenal cuz he is sick of playing second (fourth?)-fiddle, we should make a move..
