There is breaking news in Turkey that top club Fenerbahce have agreed terms with Newcastle for Turkish midfielder Emre.
Emre – reports that Newcastle have agree fee with Fenerbahce?
The Turkish club are hoping to build up on their current squad, and are reported to have agreed terms with Newcastle’s Emre Belozoglu, and with his club Newcastle United.
The Turkish International’s agent Ahmet Bulut has verified the report to be true.
It appears the total cost of the transfer will be about 7M euros to be paid to Newcastle and 3.5M euros per year to Emre.
This is about £5.5M in transfer costs, which is more than the £3.8M Newcastle are reported to have paid Inter Milan for the midfielder in July, 2005.
We do find it hard to believe that Emre will be getting about £2.8M/year at the Turkish club, that sounds unreal. Maybe that amount is over the length of the contract, but we have no idea what the contract length is.
At that time Emre signed a 5 year contract with the club when Graeme Souness was then the manager at the Tyneside club. That contract still has two years to run.
It is also being reported that Fenerbahce’s Chairman, Aziz Yildirim, will announce this transfer during his broadcast on FBTV on June 2nd, which is this Monday.
But we are rather dubious about this report, since there were reports about Emre leaving Newcastle last November.
They came out of Turkey, when Emre was himself playing there for Turkey in the Euro 2008 qualifiers, and all kinds of quotes were being attributed to various officials. and even to Emre himself.
And those reports turned out to be made up nonsense, as we learned later, even though they were widely reported.
They even had Emre saying he wanted to leave Newcastle, and Emre later clarified the situation, by saying he said no such thing, and it was all made up in his homeland.
As far as we know Keegan and Newcastle do not want to sell Emre, and Keegan has said more than once that he sees Emre in Newcastle’s future.
The reports also suggest the signing will not take place until after the Euro 2008 Championships, which to us sounds a little dubious and strange.
Add to that the reports that the Galatasaray club’s board are trying to prevent this deal from going through, and it looks like somebody is playing a joke.
These reports are coming from Turkey, but once bitten twice shy, and if we were pushed we’d have to say we think these reports were made up nonsense.
We want to be signing new players in the summer, and not selling the good players we already have.
But we’ll see – at least the reports are definitely being aired in the Turkish press, we know that.
Comments welcome.

Comment #43I personally would contribute towards his air fare. He is always injured – apart from when Turkey play.
Another dead weight that needs to go.

Comment #45yes, it was a pessimistic view. I know that we will sign someone. But you know that passion leads to impatience, and as we all know Toon fans are famous for their passion and they show this passion even when discussing transfers. Supporting Newcastle is all about ups and downs, isn’t it? So, I think there is nothing wrong with being impatient.
Tom Toon,
Bilyaletdinov is like James Milner. He has to break into new level, may be this Euro is his chance, may be he has to find a new challenge. But he hasn’t improved a lot in last two years. But he has a talent, that’s for sure.
Zhirkov – quality player, needs new challenge too. He won UEFA, Russian League titel, Russian Cup 3 years ago, hasn’t been the same player since.
Bystrov – doubt him. Like they say – he is a quality player at his day, but his day is 4-5 times a year. And he is moaning to much to officials.
You have to look at Izmaylov. One of the most talented russian players. They say he’s injure prone, but he had a very good season with Sporting Lisbon. Shame he isn’t in Russia’s squad for Euro.

Comment #48I reckon the majority of our summer signings should be proven premiership players mixed with some young up and coming european players trying to make a name for themselfs. For example realistic premiership targets like Richard Dunne, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Peter Crouch, all I believe gettable despite the fact we’re not in europe I think the the fact they’ll play regular and infront 52,000+ every other week and of course the top wages we pay will secure there services. Then hopefully Wise and his chums will have found a few good europeans to add to the blend whilst on there jollies across europe!!

why do you all say that after UEFA Cup win we don’t have chances of singing Zenit’s players?
I say that after UEFA cup win we DO have chances of singing Zenit’s players. Everyone has.
That was 3 years ago when CSKA Moscow won UEFA cup and Russian League (as Zenit did this season). ANd they simply don’t have enough motivation to play in Russian League anymore. I believe that half of our national team have to be sold abroad! CL title is too big for our teams atm and UEFA cup is already won.

Comment #53Cannot say, Tom Toon – he doesn’t play and I don’t see him at the trainings.
But when I saw him last seasons he was mediocre.
May be when he plays alongside Kaladze in national team he makes him look good?

Comment #54Appiah is done, he won’t be playing decent footy ever again. he has no knees.
Emre to Fenerbache will never ever happen. Emre a Galatasaray legend and life long fan to go to arch rivals Fener ?? !! hahahah bollox, utter bs.

Comment #55Ive only ever seen him for Georgia and that was with Kaladze injured and he was solid, and he can basically play anywhere in midfield and defence.

he said he’d love to play in Europe, with his hero, emre.
if the emre rumours are true, who’s to say turan will jump at the chance to play for us after his hero has returned home?
for me, this makes our chances of getting turan even slimmer

Comment #60Tom_Toon.. you are not serious when you say Krul to start over Harper and Given! I know that youth is good and we all like a young team when playing manager and stuff… but not everyone can do an Arsneal and often fielding all youth is not the best way forward. You need a balance, and in my opinion there is no reason to drop Given or Harper..
I do think it’s a shame if Emre leaves just cuz I reckon he is quality, even with his problems. If he has been unhappy and wanted out, then 5-6m pounds is not too bad. The money must be re-invested in quality players though.

Comment #66We need to keep Emre, despite his injuries he’s one of the most talented players we’ve got. And anyway, Emre supports Galatasaray, so he’d never sign for their arch rivals Fenerbahce. It would be like Alan Shearer signing for Sunderland!

Comment #71like your team toonbarmy, except Faye over Taylor and a new guy instead of Milner, my dream would be Bentley or Quaresma, but anyone with pace and a decent cross would do, possibly SWP.

Comment #72Taylor mus be dropped when we get another CB, simple as that.
Id go for David Luiz (although i lke Marats idea of Mertesacker, but that is just not realistic atm).
David Luiz will probably become Brazil’s no. 1 CB in the next few years thats why we should get him now. Also he could give Drogba a good kicking. Hes different to others like Cuellar because he has immense ball control and dribbles out of defence and can put a winger to shame with his speed. He does foul a fair bit though!

Comment #75Question to everyone:
do you think that EPL is as attractive for foreign players as CL? If not CL, then at least UEFA cup?
It’s not probably the case for Spain and may be Italy, but Germany? Holland? France?
And I’m not even talking about Portugal, Russia and Scotland.
I believe it is. And we can offer EPL to the likes of Veloso, Mertesacker, Arshavin etc.

do you live in England?
I just wonder is it insider’s view or outsider’s one 🙂
For example Arshavin when he was asked about opportunity playing for Everton said that this is a good variant for him as he is willing to play really competitive matches week in week out.
So, what’s about Emre’s thing? It’s really official? Any BBC or NUFC links?
