If the news that Emre is being transferred to Fenerbahce is true, then we think Newcastle will also be willing to let Damien Duff leave the club.

Damien Duff - we expect him also to leave Newcastle
Emre and Duff are similar players in that they have lots of skill, but they are very injury prone, and if you look at their playing records they don’t play a lot of minutes for Newcastle.
So in that way it’s not a particularly good deal for the club to be paying them high wages. The cost of each game to the club becomes very high.
We have heard over the last few weeks several reports about clubs being interested in Damien Duff, and we would think that Sunderland and Roy Keane could be favorites to sign the Irish International.
A good deal for Newcastle would be to at least recuperate the money we paid Chelsea for him two years ago, which was around £5M.
And if Duff did move to Sunderland he wouldn’t really have to move, which would seem to be convenient for him.
But if Newcastle are willing to let Emre leave, then Duff will not be too far behind.
However, before we get too far into these transfers, it would be nice to see the club bring some players in.
Graeme Souness made the mistake of letting players go in the summer of 2005, and then had a hard job recruiting the players he wanted, which left us short in numbers for that next season.
We don’t want to see the same thing happening this summer.
Comments welcome.

It looks like a good thing if we let players go that are on big wages and dont play enough quality football to earn them
2 Stephen // May 31, 2008 at 16:12
Sounds to me Newcastle will just be picking up the average players this summer……
Like rilse and cueller……………..
For me we are going to be doing the same thing next thing replace average players with average players…….
Pity we didnt move faster with modric….
Them are the players we need…….
Newcastle top 10 next season thats all we can expect…….
Call me pessimistic but The sir bobby robsons days are well over and will never come back

It’s confusing that we’ve been stated as having a small squad but that 3-4 top signings would see us being able to fully compete next season, only to apparently sell Emre, have Duff touted about as well as Ameobi, Rohsenthal, Ramage, Troisi et al.
The Emre announcement is particularly bad news because he is an assured first team player ‘when fit’. The worry is because we haven’t signed anyone yet and the squad gets smaller.
I can only think that there is real truth in the transfer budget rumours and we’re selling the fringe players to raise funds for the incoming transfers. If this is true, where’s the continued commitment from Mike & co.? Why are we selling without players coming in?
I hope the transfer team know what they’re doing rather than flapping and have, in fact, already sewn up their main deals and are waiting for a big bang announcement.
4 Faustino // May 31, 2008 at 16:13
Waste of his wages this guy anyway so nee problems there… emre you could argue would be a miss… but this guys here for the money and likes the lay offs …always has been always will be.
5 Tom // May 31, 2008 at 16:14
ye it’d look good if we didnt have a small squad to start with and were bringing players in. As for Duff, he’s been pretty useless recently however id much rather see the likes of smith and geremi shown the door instead. WE NEED MORE PLAYERS.
6 Southernmagpie // May 31, 2008 at 16:14
Get rid, has done nothing since being here and must be on about 65k a week. just smith after that and then i think thats it for players out.
I can see the reasoning behind going for younger up and coming players who don’t demand massive wages, and then aleast when they are injured we’re not paying stupid wages for someone sat in the medical room.
7 sirjasontoon // May 31, 2008 at 16:15
This new regime is starting to really p me off !
I bet we get some poor replacements in at the last minute.
Hopefully some billionaires that want to back the management will snap us up soon..that Ashley just seems too tight and the recruitment team is hideous : )
8 Fernando // May 31, 2008 at 16:16
not worth their wages for sure
9 ronaldeano // May 31, 2008 at 16:20
@Sirjasontoon, tight Ashley is a stooge with his vast fortune mate, he probably wants to get buried with his cash, the greedy bastard!
10 Taiwantoon // May 31, 2008 at 16:20
Don’t panic. I am sure KK has his replacements ready or he wouldn’t agree to sell.
11 Jim // May 31, 2008 at 16:22
I hear what you’re saying Tom. I would like to see the back of Smith, Barton, Viduka for sure. I’m not convinced that Duff is finished but if proven young talent was to replace him (N’Zogbia?) then I’d say goodbye. I would feel more comfortable if I knew that we were going to invest strongly in the transfer market.
The Modric deal is casting a shadow over this window, with the Dunne speculation simply adding to it. Cuellar coming in would fix that one!
12 ronaldeano // May 31, 2008 at 16:22
@Taiwantoon, its weather we CAN sign quality replacements mate. If we cant, were in deep shit like…
13 Faustino // May 31, 2008 at 16:23
Alright all you FM freaks what would happen if you had 50 mil to spend in transfer funds but your wage budget was really really high?
14 ronaldeano // May 31, 2008 at 16:29
@Faustino, i would bid for some proven young players to fill in the places we need strengthening ie, Veloso, and offer them a good wage to get them and keep them here. And i would do it as fast as possible before any other club snaps them up first.
But we wont do that for one reason or another?….
15 NUFCFAN // May 31, 2008 at 16:31
whats the problem - i have never even regarded them as squad players - you would just hear that they might be back this weekend.
this should have been done years ago - get all it the rubbish out and bring in the new.
16 Matthew // May 31, 2008 at 16:32
People are actually complaining that the club want rid of Duff?!
He’s absolutely useless.
17 Taiwantoon // May 31, 2008 at 16:32
@ronaldeano, you are abslutely right. It would be a huge task signing top quality replacements considering the board’s intentions (wage, fee, age..etc), but I have the confidence in KK. Just hope the board back him tho!
18 ronaldeano // May 31, 2008 at 16:34
After getting rid of the poor quality players on big money that is, but i would have replacements lined up before i sold anyone though, its madness if you havent
19 ronaldeano // May 31, 2008 at 16:36
If NUFC havent got replacements lined up to cover the the ones we sell, and the window shuts…..
That would be very BAD to say the least
20 Hadrian // May 31, 2008 at 16:41
i can see oba going aswell this summer , no way he’s getting the 80kpw contract he’s been sniffing around for .
also quality attracts quality ,surely its best to get our signings in before we offload .
its sneaky , but players want to play with emre(turan) or the likes of owen .
21 Jimbo // May 31, 2008 at 16:43
@ ronaldeano- no shit sherlock! dont understand how people can have a go at the recruitment team with only a few weeks gone since the end of the season. Wait till later in the summer and then if we still haven’t picked up any quality players start complaining, in the mean time be patient!!
22 Oga // May 31, 2008 at 16:44
Hopefully Smith & Viduka follow.
More importantly, I hope we get some talented and hungry replacements.
23 Faustino // May 31, 2008 at 16:46
Ronaldeano - I was driving at the fact that I expect Ashley has said there is a load of money for transfers he just wants the wage bill lightened of a few perpetual injurys and under achievers first.
24 simon toon fan // May 31, 2008 at 16:49
Makes you wonder why all of a sudden the wage bill is an issue i mean when we were paying over the odds on huge transfer fees for average players it was never an issue. It will be quite interesting to know what the actual wages total is for all the back room staff thas has arrived in recent months. Maybe this is one of the reasons why we have to sell high waged players. Seems like the toon heirarchy would welcome fifa plans to have a wage cap of 60.000 a week how much woudl that save the club a year and also it wiuld give everyteam the fighting power to buy anyone that was available instead of the best going to the club that pays the most.
25 ronaldeano // May 31, 2008 at 16:49
@jimbo, thats when all the “quality” will be snaped up by other clubs, mainly Spurs. All im saying is that we need to act NOW and tie down some decent players before they become unavailable and we get neck deep in the shit and only have mediocre players that nobody elce wants to choose from. Spurs are doing it, why art we?
26 toonoholic // May 31, 2008 at 16:50
no more turan
27 najikhin // May 31, 2008 at 16:51
im not far behind from dennis wise back to kick his butt!!!
28 ronaldeano // May 31, 2008 at 16:54
The reason why the ‘big 4′ are the big 4 is cos they spend big money and pay big wages. NUFC have done exactly the same but we apointed the WRONG people, except Robson and KK. If the fat man had of run the club properly, we would not be in this hole we are in.
29 Jimbo // May 31, 2008 at 17:01
Im pretty sure spurs have only actually signed modric so far this summer and we have probably been linked with more players than even them. as it stands, wise and co. are unproven so there is no basis for criticism, especially coz not many of the clubs around us have made any solid deals yet either.
30 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 31, 2008 at 17:01

anyway, if we can get 5mill for duff, we should defo take it. HE IS SHITPOO
31 Jimbo // May 31, 2008 at 17:03
I personally have no doubt there will be some signings. how good they are in the prem league will be a decent reflection of the effectiveness of this new recruitment system
32 bessi // May 31, 2008 at 17:12
Lorik Cana from Marseille and Valon Behrami from Lazio can be out from they teams even Behrami has said that will go out and Cana is a player that we need in positon that play Emre why we don’t go for these players when we can buy both for £15
33 Simon P // May 31, 2008 at 17:34
If we don’t spend big this summer to bridge the quality gap between ourselves and the top teams, we are going to fall further behind.
The top teams are getting stronger, and even teams like Spurs, Villa and Everton are bringing in quality.
We run the real risk of falling further behind, and I for one am very very concerned.
34 micepie // May 31, 2008 at 18:04
Remember how angry everyone became last year with the slowness of bringing players in? Eventually we did bring in a LOT - and mostly good players at that…Enrique, Beye, Faye etc…it was just the tactctics that were wrong as we went into last season.
If Duff and Emre go, one ideal scenario would be Turan and Emana coming in the opposite direction, for example. It’s not like-for-like in numbers because, as mentioned many times on this site, Duff and Emre aren’t often available.
I feel that by selling some players we could be just stretching the bow before firing an arrow, hope so anyhow.
35 ronaldeano // May 31, 2008 at 18:08
I agree Simon p
36 Jimbo // May 31, 2008 at 18:15
good shout micepie. Simon P- everton and villa havent made any signings this summer and some of their better players (think barry, johnson) are being linked with moves away from the club so how have we fallen behind??
37 MattyB // May 31, 2008 at 18:16
its just been announced on the official site, emre is gone! its a shame, he is a class player on his day but if we bring in someone less injury prone on less than 60k a week then its good business. we wont miss him too much because he never played!

Hard to know what`s going on behind the scenes, private club, dont have to disclose etc.
Certainly leaves the fans disgruntled, the not knowing.
From rumor and occasional statements, seems top management consider the present wage bill to be too high and want to rid the club of top earners, or redce their salaries, followed by a salary cap in the region of eighty thousand per week.
As far as transfer money availability, your guess is as good as mine. It appears KK has to sell in order to buy, also to shed the fringe players, this in a club allready thin on the ground.
The competition (Spurs,Pompey, etc.) are in the process of spending big time, whereas Newcastle are in the process of initiating an austerity program.
If this is the plan to achieve a top six spot, by a team finishing outside the top ten, I have to say I am confused.
But I am willing to wait and could be wrong, lets see how things turn out.
40 Toon_Ksk // May 31, 2008 at 18:33
3 choices for him
1. Regain his form and justify his pay
2. Find a new club
3. Stay and take a pay cut.
41 Mushy // May 31, 2008 at 18:51
Apart from the speculation, lets look at the facts:
KK quote “we’ve already got some quality players and we hope to add to that”
KK currently on holiday for another 2 weeks.
So here is my worst fear… the sale of Emre and possibly more done without Keegans involvement makes him question his very role at the club…. and you all know where that takes us

Bessi - The problem is Behrami is garbage!
44 Oga // May 31, 2008 at 19:13
Good recommendations bessi
Cana would be a great signing, especially with Barton banged up and Butt getting ready to collect his pension. Brilliant ball winner, but I’m unsure about his distribution and discipline. He was a teamate of Beye before so he may gel in a bit quicker. While we’re there we may as well take Taye Taiwo.
I’m personally not too familar with Valon Behrami apart from on FM & Pro Evo. Has a good re[ though and we desperately need a right winger.
45 Tom_Toon // May 31, 2008 at 19:16
Cana is good but we dont have much chance of getting him. Real Madrd, Everton or us.
Behrami is just absolute poo.

I simply don’t beleive some of the negative tossers who post on here are Toon fans…..these are the one who boo when things get a bit tough. They all know who they are….no way are these fans, they are just moaners who probably watch the games from the comfort of their lounge or the pub but tell eveyone how Ashley should run the place.
Ask yourselves why should Mike Ashley pour millions of his hard earned cash into the club? To pay people like Emre / Duff / Smith £60k a week…….these comments about Emre are incredible….50 + games in 3 seasons is shocking and he was NEVER fit when the chips were down. Good ridence I say…..to me he’s no loss - another Souness dud.
No Turan….what so we want a player who only wants to come to us cos of Emre?? I want players who want to be here because we are a great club.
Oh and to the idiots saying get rid of Viduka….do any of you go to the games?? When he’s fit Viduka is an awsome player - as an example the game changed completely against Chelsea when he didn’t come out second half.

Some people on this site get me annoyed with their silly comments about not signing any players yet. Apparently it’s all doom and gloom and time to “sack the board” and “sell the club” statements are surfacing already!
There’s the best part of 3 months left to strengthen the team, so support your club instead of trying to destroy it………..
