Steven Taylor, who was raised in the north east of England , ever since he was 2 weeks old, has today said how desperate he is to stay at the club under the great Kevin Keegan.
Steven Taylor – desperate to stay at Newcastle
Newcastle fan Taylor is just determined to be part of Kevin Keegan’s plans for next season, but insists he is concerned by a lack of progress on a new deal.
Steven was a ball boy at Newcastle during Kevin’s last reign at the club, and the las has played really well for Kevin since he returned to the club in January.
Taylor told the Daily Star today.
“I’m desperate to stay, especially with Kevin Keegan now in charge,”
“But I hate the fact that I’ve got 13 months left on my contract.”
“Every day that’s passing, I’m wondering if it’s a day nearer to me leaving.–Believe me, that’s the last thing I want.”
“Everyone knows that I’m desperate to commit myself to this club but the deal has got to be right.â€
“All the players can’t wait for the new season because we believe the future is really bright at Newcastle.â€
“And it goes without saying that I want to be a big part of it.”
We think Steven has every right to be concerned there is no progress on his contract, since the club were talking about it last September, and at that time Chairman Chris Mort said he would step in and do the deal.
We’d really like to see the club move with greater speed, not only with Steven’s deal, but also with Michael Owen’s contract.
What’s going on?
Comments welcome.

Comment #1I agree ED, why is it that we never hear anything positive coming from the club, only negitive stuff with players leaving, contracts etc?
We need to hear some better news coming out of NUFC and quick, because we will lose out on the “quality” KK said that he wants….

Comment #2This is the second time Taylor has gone to the press to try and get support from the fans in his quest for a bumper contract, he was offered the same as Milner and N’Zogbia and turned it down because he thinks he’s worth £50k pw, shame he’s just an average defender who’s worth about half that amount.
Sell him before the rest of the country twig on that he’s shite.

Comment #11Getting pissed off with Ashley and co. Emre on his way out, Duff on his way out, no contracts agreed with Taylor or Owen, we have already lost 3 players in Ramage,Troise and Carr and Rozy on his way to Italy what the hell is going on at NUFC. Robert Lee has also expressed his worries about lack of activity and more to do with players leaving. When ASHLEY said he wanted to tighten the wage structure i didnt think he would get rid of half a dozen players with absolutely nothing coming in ATM. In my opinion the most obvious thing to do is let one go and bring another in that is better then what we had, instead we have a team that is weaker then what is was at the end of the season it was two weeks ago that Ashley said that contract negotiations would be discussed that week but nothing has happened what so ever. I want to be positive but there is nothing to be positive about, Ashley is ripping our club apart for his own benefit. Wish he would sell up and f.off.

Comment #12i think the fact that we are in a “transitonal” period between chairman is causing us ALOT of trouble especialy this time of year
remeber last year with allardyce ? the fighting for control with MA and freddy shepard stopped allardyce bringingin players he wanted straight away and missed out on several players and ended up with 2nd choice players such as rozenhal , smith and cacapa
i beieve this is the same problem we have now, missed out on arguably the hottest talent on the planet in luka modric and it looks exceidingly likely we will mis out on richard dunne and turan arda

Comment #15I think four or five years ago cutting the wage structure and looking after the club’s future would have seemed like a good idea.
Now though it is a dangerous strategy.
We are in an era where billionaires such as Abramovich, Shinawatra and people like that are throwing money about like confetti. Everyone seems to be spending, even Sunderland!
It isn’t rocket science to think that if we don’t buy good players and keep the best we’ve got we will fall further behind.
Then there’s the incomprehensible scenario of Wise and Keegan arguing over who to sign like two naughty school kids. “Dunne?” “No he’s too old.” “Sessegnon? Who?”
Also anyone noticed how quiet the people running the club have been of late. We’ve heard nothing about the football side of things from Mort in ages!
Sort it out guys!

Comment #17Look at Ashleys Sports Direct. He pays his staff very little and he has a high staff turn around. It appears that is how he is going to run our club. Nev, don’t you mean Arda Turan?

Comment #18I cant work out what the fat man is all about,he dances on the terraces with the fans when we win, seems gutted when we dont, wipes out our debt and brings back the king.I really thought he would have sorted out Owen and Taylors contract by now but he has nt and that worries me.The man needs to back Kk with serious money if we have any chance of europe and i am not sure he is going to.We need to find buyers for the likes of Smith,Duff,Roz etc,to free up cash and i cant see who in their right man will buy them.

Comment #23give ashley some time…we don’t know what’s going on behind the scene…it’s better to really think through who to sign, then to end up with another smith,… we still have 3 moths to sign players we REALLY need, players that will really improve our squad…
remember…we want to become a top 4 club..and not to fight with sunderland for 17th place… if we look at ashley we can see he wants to be the best..he puts time, money and energy in things he does in life…so get off his back…at least untill sptember 1st!

Comment #26Everyone knows one of the main characteristics of DIC, the company they invest in is severely planned and run to perfection. They are very thorough.
they have lots of money and they always want their investment to be the best in the field, therefore lots of money to be put it 🙂

Comment #27how do you know about ashley being a tite arse, none of us know, he has pumped 250 million into the club so far, has been here for a year, and to be honest in the first year of running a club 250 million is a fair bit of money.

Comment #31GG7 – That includes buying the club and clearing debt (for his perosnal gain more than ours), any investor would have done that.
Do you know how rich DIC are? Doubt they wll be taking out many loans against the club.

Comment #36now seriously i think ashley is here to stay and is here to get things rite,
that is get players we dont want, out of the system
we have to understand we dont play champions league football that we can pay 100,000 to a player no matter how good he is, or 70,000 for another useless player
we could save a lot of money in salaries and invest to have a bigger and more physically strong squad…
come on that guy paid 100mil losses for us last season, if he wanted to leave he could have left without paying the debt.
so wait we will get just right type players and i am sure we have the list of (right)players, because let’s accept it keeagan, wise and ashley are no fools.

Comment #37The contracts of our current players is a concern. Especially when players of Taylors calibour are complaining in the local press. This can be easily sorted out if they want to. I suppose one explanation could be, we are sorting out the dead wood first, free up a bit of cash and then deal with the contracts. However this does seem like penny pinching from the BILLIONAIRE!
