Newcastle United have today confirmed on their web site that Fenerbahce and Newcastle have agreed a deal for their Turkish International Emre.

Emre - now discussing terms with Fenerbahce
The statement on the Newcastle web site is as follows:
Newcastle United can confirm that they have agreed terms with Fenerbahce for the transfer of midfielder Emre.
The Magpies have also given Fenerbahce permission to talk to the player to discuss personal terms.
We broke the story last night when we were alerted by our readers that Turkish newspapers were saying there was a deal between the 2 clubs and today Fenerbahce announced the deal on their web site.
But note the deal is not complete and Fenerbahce have still to agree terms with the player, and we believe Emre was getting a good wage package at Newcastle United.
But this action by the club does show that Newcastle seem to be willing to let some of their fringe players, and we think it’s almost certain that Damien Duff will also be allowed to leave.
Fenerbahce had previously announced the deal was in place, and now Newcastle have confirmed, as we expected, that the move is close to completion if the Turkish club can agree terms with Emre.
We don’t know if this move was sanctioned by Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan who is looking to build his small squad over the summer, but we have to believe he was OK with the deal.
The 27-year-old Turkish International joined Newcastle from Inter Milan three years ago, when Graeme Souness was then Newcastle manager, but he has struggled, mainly through injury, for consistency while on Tyneside.
But the player has always been well liked by the Newcastle fans, because of his enormous skills.
By our reckoning he made 80 appearances for Newcastle with 63 starts and scored 9 goals. But last season he started only 8 games, mainly because of several injuries he had during the last campaign.
Emre is currently with the Turkish squad ahead of Euro 2008, but we’ll have to wait and see if signs a three-year contract with Fenerbahce, which is what the Turkish club are offering.
Emre played for Turkish rivals Galatasaray from 1996 to 2001, and appeared 102 times scoring 14 goals before he moved to Inter Milan for a 4 season stay. He signed for Newcastle in July, 2005.
Our information is the fee is around £5.5M, which is almost £2M more than the club paid Inter Milan for the Turkish star. However BBC Sports is reporting the fee as high as £8M, which would be a great deal for Newcastle United.
So far this summer, Newcastle have allowed Ramage, Diatta, Carr and Troisi to leave the club and it is also expected that Rozehnal and Ameobi will also be on their way, in addition to Emre, if the Fenerbahce deal goes through as is expected.
But Newcastle have yet to announce any new arrivals at the club.
However, these moves certainly lighten the wage bill at the club. The total wage costs were over £70M last season, and too high as far as owner Mike Ashley is concerned.
We think the Newcastle squad will still be small for next season, but we fully expect some top quality signings before August 31st rolls around again.
Comments welcome.

Fantastic business - what has he actually done in the 3-4 years that he’s been here. Good player, very talented, but coulod have and should have done more in his Toon career.
I wish him luck in the Euro’s and at F’bache.

How do we know KK was ok with this deal???
6 Toon1978 // May 31, 2008 at 19:45
RICHIE to me keeping your best players and letting the weaker players go makes sense. It only makes your squad stronger and Emre fits into that catagory of a good player we need to keep. Unfortunately Ashley thinks different he is earning top dollar so get rid granted Emre has had many injury problems but that is not his fault. I am sick of hearing people go and i hope i am wrong big time to think what i am thinking now about Mike Ashley.

We now have NO attacking CM’s at the club now. What are we going to do about it???

i think we have signed another midfielder because kk said he didnt want to sell anyone, so there is no eason to sell him unles we have brought a backup. watch this space i say.
also didnt really think he did enough for us and always seemed to be fit for turkey but never us
12 Toon1978 // May 31, 2008 at 19:49
KK needs a miracle to deal with Ashley, he’s keeping his money to stuff his face with mince pies and ale.
13 ronaldeano // May 31, 2008 at 19:51
Mike Ashley is a tight arse cockney who buys us drinks in our pubs to make us like him.
All he wants to do is spend little and win big.
That is not going to happen in this day and age.
If he dosent put his stumpy little sausage fingers in his fat pocket and replace the players we sell, we are doomed, big time.
I dont give a shit what anyone says.
What are you doing with our club Mike?…
14 GazzaToon // May 31, 2008 at 19:54
why are you guys moaning emre hardly ever plays anyway! admittedly he is quality when he does play but i doubt he’d get in the side much next year anyway with milner, n zogbia, barton, butt and gerimi ahead of him and theres a good chance we will sign another good midfielder aswell. so imo its a quality bit of business by newcastle
15 ronaldeano // May 31, 2008 at 19:54
He wants to spin all his cash on the roulette in the casino rather than buy players to make us into a top 6 team!

ronaldeano i know how you feel just keep ya fingers crossed there may be a top signing around the corner but not Harper please.
23 Macas // May 31, 2008 at 20:02
As much as I like Emre we have the chance to reduce the wage bill and add to the transfer kitty. His injuries were the only problem I had with him as I thought he was a cracking player, but we can sign a younger, better, less injury prone player and take the cub forward now. I’m sure there will be deals in the pipeline but the club are determined to keep things under wraps until any deal is done. Keegan has never been afraid to sell players if it was right for the club and I’m positive there will be a few nice surprises before the season starts. Now all we need is to get rid of Duff, Smith, Rozenhal and Ameobi and I’ll be happy. Ok we have a small squad to start with but we can generate valuable funds from these players to transform things around and bring in better players.
24 ronaldeano // May 31, 2008 at 20:02
That is the case! MA wants success on the cheap and he is not going to get it!

Toon1978, ronaldeano & toon4lyf
Think about it just for a minute. We like Emre but will we really miss him? Of course not. Generally injured. Lacks effort when fit. Can’t pass well enough for a creative midfielder. Huge wage bill and we’ve just made a bloody great profit on him.
Good business decision and good football decision.
I can’t believe you’re getting on Ashely’s back either. The transfer window isn’t even open yet, all the clubs are relatively quiet. Things’ll happen. Ashley is rich because he’s not stupid. He’ll come good for us, I’ll bet mi left leg.
27 Penalty-Spot // May 31, 2008 at 20:07

28 Taiwantoon // May 31, 2008 at 20:08
I like Emre’s style of play and his vision, but I am not really that concerned just yet. Emre is certainly a player with great ability and potential, but injuries has limited him a great deal in the last 2-3 years. A fresh start might be just what he needs.
From our prospective, it’s not really the end of day, is it? We still have time to correct it. No, I am not going to lie and say that the future look great. I am actually very worrying by what MA has done so far, but we can now only hope that a great replacement has been lined up.
29 Toon1978 // May 31, 2008 at 20:09
Penalty-Spot you say the window is not open yet, yes you are correct but why are other clubs making signings NOW and we are sitting idly watching the world go by. Spurs have signed Modric and now Dunne is on his way there, Man utd will spend big in the next week or so yet what are NUFC doing absolutely nothing so you can understand why some of us are getting a little anxious.
30 ronaldeano // May 31, 2008 at 20:12
Keegans comments after the Chelsea game were spot on. MA disagrees.?
What the f**k is he playing at?
Why appoint KK if you are not going to back him.
We all thaught the reason FSA was sacked was his style of play and he wasent MA’s appointment. So MA employes KK, HIS MAN.
Why is MA not backing his man? It seems he wants to do an Arsenal! Its just not going to happen!
We need signings, quality ones, before they go to other teams

32 domtoon // May 31, 2008 at 20:13
oh for god’s sake give it time people. this is MA’s regime’s first transfer window. we finished 12th in the premier league with 43 points. that is pretty shocking when you think about it, and if we did get anywhere near 8 mill for Emre, then in my eye’s a good deal for a player who’s played about 10 games for us last season. you don’t know what is going on behind the scenes, and i’m not saying it’s all rosey, but for pete’s sake give em a chance.
i really do hate to say it but sometimes i think other club fans are right when they call us delirious, over-expecting fools. we are not (!) gonna get arseshaving, mcgiddy or vw touran, or any players of their calibre this season, nor probably the next unless the team pull their thumbs out of their arses, get some passion back into their game, and take us right back up the table (and i’m talking UEFA) where we belong, what with the big bucks we’re spending on player salaries. i believe that is why kk has said he wants to keep as many of the current squad as possible and build from there (but with emre it’s a bit different cos he’s hardly ever fit).
if we get any one of the above mentioned players, i will be incredibly surprised (and equally ecstatic). fingers crossed for signing at least 1 real quality player this summer.
33 Penalty-Spot // May 31, 2008 at 20:14

Domtoon, i have spent thousands following NUFC since i was a kid, and we have been under acheving for to long. With a billionare at the helm now, i expect a bit of investment in the first team and for the club to be run properly for once. That is what i expected when MA took over, but the lack of activity in the transfer market and all the talk of contracts and failed signings (Modric), has done my heed in mate. We need something to look forward to next season, and all i see at the moment is a tight fisted owner, a chairman who’s days are numberd and a mediocre squad thats getting smaller. I hope things change soon

41 Glenn // May 31, 2008 at 20:34
I don’t know why some people are getting so upset. Emre is no genius world class footballer, he’s an inconsistent, injury prone player who hardly ever scores and he’s too little and lightweight for English football. He has got talent, but we only ever got rare flashes of it. Just another typical Shephed-era NUFC signing, over hyped and over paid.
42 Davy C // May 31, 2008 at 20:34
I don’t normally have any comments against any contributor to this site as we are all entitled to an opinion BUT Toon4lyf how can you give yourself that moniker and then say that it’s getting harder to support Newcastle United? I just simply don’t understand you at all.
Support for your team surely should not be conditional at all. Football teams are supported through thick and thin.
What if we had been relegated - would you stop supporting the team? You are not a football fan in my eyes if that’s how you think? How many years have you been going to watch the lads? Not many I bet.
Now stop talking nonsense and get behind the team you supposedly love or you’ll have to change your name to toonwhenIcanbebothered or toonforabit.

personally pleased. emre has undoubted talent but i don’t think he was useful for us, especially away from home. would like to see us target someone like michael johnson or someone with some pace in the centre cos butt, geremi and barton aren’t that quick (neither was emre)
50 ronaldeano // May 31, 2008 at 20:52

Stephen, i agree, as much as i hate it, i agree mate
53 Davy C // May 31, 2008 at 20:54
Emre had bags of potential but only started 46 Premiership games out of 114 possible games in the three seasons he’s been with us. We got him from Inter Milan for the same reason - he wasn’t reaching his potential and Souness took a gamble on his fitness. He put in some great performances and some indifferent.
I for one will never forget the goal he scored against the Mackems and he will never have to buy a pint in Newcastle if he ever visits again!
54 Andy1 // May 31, 2008 at 20:55
As much as I liked him and thought he had potential to be a star player for the team and in the league as a whole, I couldn’t help but think that he just didn’t want to play for us. Little knocks kept him out for months and this tells me his attitude really wasn’t right. We need players who want to play for us and aren’t just going to sit around and pick up 50k+ a week.
In this sense I agree with Ashley’s policy although I can think of a few players I’d have kicked out before Emre.
Cacapa, Rozehnal, Smith, Geremi, Duff, Viduka, Shola.
Out of them Duff probably has the most potential to excel here but I can see him being a permanent sicknote so I would much rather we bring in an exciting young winger, and give Lua Lua a more prominent role.
When Keegan said he wanted to keep the squad together I thought we would have to settle for 3 or 4 signings, which wouldn’t really do. But, this shows we are prepared to sell the deadwood, and perhaps promises more new faces and more quality.
If we let any more go we will have the smallest, shittest sqaud we’ve had in ages. We will need lots of quality and more numbers as well. If Ashley doesn’t deliver the players now we are absolutely screwed for next season.
Also, I would have thought that being such cute businessmen they would have delayed this transfer till after the Euros. Everyone else knows they have to do this to boost the value. Ashley and co. are making some strange decisions and I just hope that Keegan is approving each move we make which concerns the playing staff - If it isn’t the case he’ll be gone.
55 Luke // May 31, 2008 at 20:55

I think selling players like Emre will have other more ambitious teams having a look at players like nzogbia, milner, martins to name a few.
I think Ashley must be paying peanuts to the newcastle web people the news broke in turkey this time last night.
I will always support the toon but want the big signings and excitement..at this rate we will be shite next season as Fat Ash coins it in buying shite and paying shite wages.

Emre spend most of the season injured for us, picking up a good wage. Euro comes up and all of a sudden he is fit and playin for Turkey again, does that not tell you something about the player, did he really want to play for the toon. IMO i would prefer players wo are prepared to give 110% for the club, i dont think Emre did, his main concern was to play for Turkey and not the toon
61 toon4lyf // May 31, 2008 at 21:02

62 Chris F // May 31, 2008 at 21:04
christ, you’d think he was Zinedine Zidane the way some of you lot are going on.
He was nothing special, we’re no weaker from losing him, as he missed a lot more games than he played.
6 goals in 80-odd games is hardly prolific either for an attacking midfielder.
hopefully now we can crack on and bring in some fresh midfield talent, which is sorely needed.
face facts people, he was pretty much dead wood in the squad, taking up money from the wage budget and adding very little on the pitch.
he seemed a nice enough bloke, but will we miss him on the park?
that’s the question you should be asking, and frankly the answer is a resounding no.
63 euanpolo // May 31, 2008 at 21:05
Is Ashley an co. trying to get us relegated! We’ll need more than “4 or 5 good players” now wont we! What happened to us not selling anyone!? What are they going to do next, transfer list Given, Beye, Taylor, Milner, Owen and Martins and appoint Rozehnal as captain! I’m furious with this, I’ve sat by and watched are best players dissapear for long enough. I thought Ashley would be better than Shepard, but to be honest I can’t see much different at the moment!

72 Andy1 // May 31, 2008 at 21:17
I think Ashley is right to be looking to cut costs by getting rid of the money grabbing losers that have undermined the club over the past years. A new approach will hopefully stop us throwing massive amounts of cash at big name players that don’t want to play for the team. I would love to see the youngsters coming through and giving a 100% every time they wear the shirt, than having to endure any more of the gutless performances of the Big Sam period.
But for me, we have to keep the best players at the club like Oba and Owen, even if they are draining funds because I can’t see us being able to attract anyone half as good, especially if we aren’t going to offer big wages. I can’t seeing us getting much quality in and it will be hard to stop the like of Portsmouth and Spurs running away, spending money on top players.
Other teams like Blackburn and particularly Everton are in a really strong position having built a good squad without spending a lot. I am sure that’s the model Ashley wants to replicate but it will be a slow and difficult process and will frustrate a lot of fans in the short.
Even seeing the benefits of such an approach I can’t help but think we have to splash the cash and secure a European spot as soon as possible. That’s the only way to get continued success and make us more attractive to players.
For I’ll just say Ashley and co. know what they are doing. And cross my fingers.
73 The Entertainers // May 31, 2008 at 21:18
Come on everyone, give the club a chance…..yes i’m a little concerned. However i still have faith in the management setup. Do you really think KK would have come back if there was no cash to spend or still be here if he’d been lied to? Do you really think Wise would have given up a promising career in management to become the clubs first port of call in signing players, if all we do is sell?…..We have Jimenez and are on the look out for someone high profile for the academy. These are not the actions of a selling club…..keep the faith!
74 SAMTHECAT // May 31, 2008 at 21:19
Emre flattered to deceive just as he did at Inter. He was never fit enough apart from when Turkey were playing. He never understood the concept of pass and move, pass and standstill morelike.
The 5.5m-8m will go on a replacement with less wages who hopefully will be fit for most of the season.

we have sooo much rebuilding to do……..
like last season we looked good in our friendlys like against celtic and juventus but when it comes down to it that was just covering up the cracks on an average team
in my opinion
big sam aint to blame
roeder aint to blame
souness had a top 5 club in his hands and after spending 50 million plus he turned us into relagation candiatates……….
in my opinion souness is the devil

i think most ppl would agree spurs business sense has got them where they are now
not really a big club but pick up soo many bright stars likes carrick for 3 million then sell him for 17 million
like i thin every toon fan would love good young players for bargains than superstars like owen cause when u think bout it them players are just going to put us back years than make us a good team..
thats just my opinion but i prefer the likes of gomes over henry……..
79 GSfan // May 31, 2008 at 21:49
GG7 - Well I do feel betrayed of course. Emre kept mentioning about every football player being a professional and how they gotta do their job, but I personally think professionalism should have its limits. We made him who he is right now, it was Hagi that had been his ‘trainer’ who helped him become what he is today. He even spat on the Fenerbahce players and insulted them a lot when he played for us, so it’s going to be rather weird when he plays for Fenerbahce. Like I said… even professionalism should have its limits and this is just silly.
I’m pretty sure he’s going to play just like he plays in the national team right now for Fenerbahce. A shame he never bothered to do half of that for Newcastle, god knows what was wrong.
The scariest thing for a Galatasaray fan like me though is not the fact that Fener got Emre. It seems they want star players who won’t take a foreign player spot in the team as well as buying a star foreigner who is “known throughout the world” (which was a transfer policy set by Fenerbahce’s Chairman about 4-5 years ago and they always kept that tradition going). There were reports of them wanting Nihat before but no one believed a word of it cuz Villareal would rather be relegated than sell him (slight exagerration). But now that they have bought Emre and announced a 65m budget for transfers alone I’m rather scared they might get Nihat. If they do, then Besiktas fans are gonna be at an uproar as well, but it would be far worse as they would be buying the best Turkish player in the world as well.

nearly every match he played in we won
toon4lyf….you know nowt mate and you’re talking boll** about Emre. We’ d have been relegated without him. WHAT!! Apart from the Everton game where he made a difference he only played a handful of games at home. He played in the 0 - 3 drubbing by Liverpool - he was anonymous. 0 - 2 Man City - 1 -1 Boro 2 -2 with Derby. The only other home game we won with him playing was against Spurs - and we could beat them with 10 Ameobi’s. If your going to make statements….. get your facts right eh!
81 GSfan // May 31, 2008 at 21:54
Oh as for what Polat said on the thing you quoted he just says he wishes the best for Emre. And on the question if he wants Sivasspor’s forward Mehmet Yildiz and if he had been talking to the chairman of Sivasspor about it he replied “We always talk about stuff”.
82 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 31, 2008 at 22:09
im gutted for you you didnt get emre, i feel disgusted. it would be like pedro beardsley going to sunderland. i dont think we will get arda now, wich is gutting, but i do think we have something big going on, if we got in this emana, i will be soo underwhelmed if it is our first signing.
83 Tom_Toon // May 31, 2008 at 22:15
Aye, Emana is just a runner, little creativity, but a few goals and some pace, a huge improvement on duff, smith and geremi though. But id still be hugely underwhelmmed.
84 ED // May 31, 2008 at 22:16
I’m now worried about the amount of players KK siad we need to bring in - 4 or 5 doesn’t seem enough to me if we allow players like Emre and Duff to leave. I’m hoping for closer to 7/8 established players, and then a few younger ones with potential.
Although i really wouldn’t mind Smith/Ameobi leaving…
85 Ross // May 31, 2008 at 22:17
to be honest GG7, i’d love to think someone exciting s coming in to replace emre, someone who would make us think
“ok emre’s gone, but thats irrelevant now, because look at who’s gonna slot into our midfield to replace him”
but i just cant see it happening, gutted eh
86 GSfan // May 31, 2008 at 22:17
Of course you can still get Arda. There are many answers that can be given to arguements presented by some.
“He doesn’t want to come because we don’t have Emre”
- Of course he would. He wants European football, especially having a chance to play in the Premiership. He also complimented Newcastle United as a club in his last interview. He wouldn’t throw all that away just so he can play with Emre. He’s going to be doing that a lot in the national team anyways.
“We don’t offer any European club competition, he would rather go elsewhere”
- Of course not. Tuncay went for Middlesborough and was even ready to not be guaranteed a spot in the first team. These guys never see themselves too good for a club cuz the Premiership is their dream experience.
Arda won’t be like Emre if he comes to you guys. He was like him before. But now he plays with passion ever since Karl Heinz Feldkamp got him sorted and I’m sure KK can do the same and make use of his potential just like Feldkamp did if he’s a good coach as everyone makes him out to be.
87 NUFCFAN // May 31, 2008 at 22:23
exciting times - everyone wanted the clearout, and now that its happening you dont.
i have dreamed of getting these players out - they contribute nothing - dont understand your logic toon4lyf, (let alone your comments!) never played, so not really a miss. Gid rid of the rest.
Have a feeling we could do the Man City of last year and bring in alot of new this summer.
The youths come through as bench and subs. Kadar, Lua Lua, Goodsmark, Carrol, Tozer. They are going to be subs who wont complain and are going to be so hungry to get on, full of energy, and god knows how many millions cheaper.
Next Week, there has to be news on replacements after the Emre sale - however whats more likey to happen is more poor journalism with regards to Transfer Rumours.
88 NUFCFAN // May 31, 2008 at 22:26
GS fan, your absolutey right. Not many players get to play in front of 52,000 fans reguarly, and against the top teams and players in the world.
Euro football is a big factor but lets be honest playing in UEFA cup on the whole is probaly easier than the premier league
89 ronaldeano // May 31, 2008 at 22:47
I did not want a clearout, i wanted the team yo play football. Now that we have KK we are playing football the way the game is meant to be played. What i diddent want is our squad to be smaller and sell players that would benefit us when they are fit.
Having said that, there is plenty of time for us to replace the players we lose. I just hope we do it quickly so we dont miss out on the quality players that we have a decent chance in signing.
Arshavin, Veloso etc
And the long shots like Van Der Vaart, Diego etc…
90 Rem // May 31, 2008 at 22:49
reasons why i hate that everyon is panicking:
1. Window hasnt opened yet
2. if you argue some clubs already made signings, only 3 major signings have occured
3 . its euro 2008, it would be stupid for a club to sell a player before this, cause they would get less
4. the worst thing KK and the scouting staff could do is come out with targets etc, at least it shows they are workin!
5. Majority of signings occur in august

97 Bosck // May 31, 2008 at 22:58
I’m sorry i know this site is for people to express their opinions but i wish the people saying this is a terrible sale and backward step for the club would shut up.
We are set to make at least 2 million pounds on a guy who has taken big wages off our club and rarely if ever produced a run of displays that justified his fee, or showed any sign that he was desperate to do so.
I was a supporter of emre for a long while and you cannot deny he is a technically gifted player, but for the last 3 years for newcastle he has been a waste of space and wages.
if we want to match the big 4 like so many claim then getting rid of dead wood is exactly what we should do, ferguson shipped on kleberson and djemba djemba as soon as he had decided they would never make the grade, he didnt just keep them cos he wanted to have a certain number of midfielders, what a joke, you need people who can actually do a job there consistently not just have the squad number and title of midfielder!!!
Finally i have said it before and i will say it again, for those slagging off mike ashley as tight, he has cleared the clubs debts for one thing and there is most of the transfer window still left to sign players. if at the end of the window noone has signed then fine you can feel disgruntled then, but the idea of buying expensive players or keeping underperforming ones just for the sake of it is ridiculous and clearly shows the people who wouldnt have a clue running a football club; a claim which they constantly level at mike ashley.
anyway rant over, or nearly people should start supporting mike ashley trying to turn our club around rather than attacking him for not acting like the ridiculous previous regime!!
98 ronaldeano // May 31, 2008 at 23:00
the player i am talking about is Emre. He has been a very good player for us even when he has came on as a sub. We now have no first choice AM’s apart from Lualua who is still very young and inexperienced, and i am doing my heed in thinking who we can bring in to fill in that position. We need someone with a good fitness record who is reliable, young and proven on the big stage
99 Tom_Toon // May 31, 2008 at 23:01
Kallstrom, Kahlenberg - Both realistic.
100 ronaldeano // May 31, 2008 at 23:08
@NUFCFAN, we should keep every player we have got left apart from Smith. Our squad is tiny, id rather have mediocre players than no players at all. When the better players are signed up, thats when we should be selling the overpaid ones who make little contribution because they are dodgy with their fitness
101 daiv // May 31, 2008 at 23:11

Emre was always injured. Good player but not up to the physical demands of Prem. Only started 8 games last season. Always fell down holding leg when tackled. Good busines to get rid of him. Prob great in France or Turkey. Injured in Prem. Good business. Now to get rid of Smith and Duff. And then buy big.

I want to see us show a bit of ambition and sign some quality ASAP!
109 ToonKing // May 31, 2008 at 23:25
i was having a debate on one of the forums about how useless Milner
is, when i suddenly realized that Emre had 1 goal and 4 assists in 14 games this season, which is pretty decent.
as i said before my brain is at peace with this cause he is injured all the time and has high wages but somehow my heart is sad to see him go, you could always see the potential in him, i wish the Turkish Maradona all the best.
we don’t need an overhaul but i think we will eventually come to realise that we just had one.
Ramage gone, Shola almost gona, Emre gone, Duff, Carr 99% gone, Milner and Viduka could also possibly go. I agree with all of these, they are not helping us one bit, they are all average players at best, except Viduka.
However thats 7 players from an all ready very thin squad and we’ll need to buy at least 8-9 players to strenghten and deepen our squad.
MA will not give money to buy 8-9 very good players. we will buy average again.
We will have an overhaul and yet…..we won’t have one…….
hope i’m wrong though.
110 sas // May 31, 2008 at 23:26
I think it’s great business. We’ve got a lot of players on Shepherd wages, and we’ll find it hard to sell a lot of them. To make a profit on an injury prone player who has missed as much football as Emre has over the last 3 years is fantastic.
Maybe he wasn’t happy, who knows? But if there is a target spending on wages, it could free up some cash to give Owen, Martins, Taylor the contracts they’re looking for. I’d at least hope for some good news on that front next week.
It does leave us lacking a bit of creativity in the side, I’m sure that’s something Keegan will have noted, he knows the value of creativity (Beardsley, Ginola, Gillespie). I’d have faith, and see where we’re at on September 1st.

also @ toonking how can you say milner is awful hes one of our brightest players and the only bit of flair we now have in midfield so i cannot see us getting rid of him! imo he should be in the starting 11 everyweek when hes fit as he can go past opposition players with ease and has a great future ahead of him
113 Beardsley8 // May 31, 2008 at 23:41
I’m concerned about our transfer policy this summer. We haven’t had a decent sized squad for several seasons - and now we’re letting player leave before we’ve signed any replacements. Given our recent failures in the transfer market (Modric, Woodgate, etc) I would be concerned that we may let too many players leave only to find we can’t sign adequate replacements.
Emre was no world-beater, but I would have liked to have seen us at least complete a transfer or two before we authorised any departures.
Maybe there’s activity behind the scenes? I hope so.
114 Chris F // May 31, 2008 at 23:43
Tom Toon will no doubt disagree, and say we should sign someone no ones ever heard of except him and his vast knowledge of football (manager 2008)
i really don’t know why everyone hangs on his every word. i’m sure he’s a decent guy, but he isn’t the word of god when it comes to football.
i think everyone on here needs to stop moaning and slagging the club off. It’s not even bloody June fer christs sake!
If you look at seasons past, there’s never a vast amount of activity during a close-season where an international tournament is scheduled.
All the movement will come after Euro 2008, or the most of it will anyway, as that’s where all the managers, scouts and agents will be casting their eyes for the next month.
Not to say we won’t sign anyone at all until then, i’m sure we will, but June will be a slow month.
115 t-g-w // May 31, 2008 at 23:43
I would just like to congratulate the board on this new policy - getting rid of players who don’t contribute much on the pitch and pick up enormous wages. In my opinion, that is exactly how a football club should be run. That’s life - if you don’t do your job properly, you should go. That’s exactly what has happened here. Well done Mike Ashley. I am certain that we will bring in someone better than Emre. It won’t be hard.

Well considering i havent ever been on football manager its quite hard and i wouldnt be able to describe the players if i havent seen them.

I dont mind Emre leaving, and i’ve patience but its just that our club has shown little or no signs of intent to sign many quality first team players. Im all for developing young talent but we need a fair few first team players. I feel KK is being undermined somehow here.

Tom Toon - we have one of the best goalkeepers handanovic (23) from udinese…he class, there are big hopes for striker tim matavz (19, hereenven, was also wanted by fiorentina, chelsea, tottenham), and kronaveter (19), wanted by milan and he’s a AMC..
there are several youngsters who play for benfica, roma, inter, milan…they are all still very young (15-17), so we’ll just have to wait…

getting these players off the books is fine , but it looks like they wont be replaced with anyone as established as the players heading out .
we will become a feeder club untill we can break the top 4 and hold onto our players , but we will forever be relying on prospects to get us there .

“But note the deal is not complete and Fenerbahce have still to agree terms with the player, and we believe Emre was getting a good wage package at Newcastle United.”
if nufc has agreed a terms with turkish team why we are trying to say that maybe emre will not go….its understand that KK doesn’t want him even we want him to play for us next seasson
how is going things next seasson we will play with these player:

not to dissapointed, another nearly player in my opinion, would place him in the same bracket as dyer and bowyer etc.. lets hope milner and n,zogbia realise there potential. Rob Lee has worried me a bit, he said KK usually had all his signings wrapped up by the end of May. I know times have changed but it does bring the pesamist out in me.

I cant believe some fans are unhappy & gutted that Emre is leaving….What has he actually done in his time at newcastle??He was bought as being the Turkish Maradona…..I never saw anything to put him that catagory….Yeah at times he showed glimpses of a good player but never done it consistantly…These are the types of players we need out of the club.Players on high wages who are just fringe players..Another thing people keep going on about Emre being this Attacking creative midfielder, well Im sorry like but he always looked more defensive than attacking the only thing he attacked was a player who fowled him…Trim the wage bill with these types of players to be able to keep our top players….Anyway with Emre gon
