Newcastle Register Interest In Peter Crouch

Newcastle United are ready to bid for Peter Crouch in an £8M deal.

Peter Crouch - Newcastle and Portsmouth interested

Crouch is ready to leave Liverpool, after warming the bench far too much last season, but he has already talked of his desire to return to Fratton Park under Harry Redknapp at Portsmouth.

Redknapp’s intention is to partner Crouch with Jermaine Defoe, but of course he could also play alongside England international Michael Owen at Newcastle.

Crouch is on England duty in Trinidad and Tobago, and talked yesterday:

”I played nowhere near enough games last year, I accept that. I think I need to play more regularly.”

“You have to be playing football to be noticed.”

But Keegan also has some attraction for the 6’7” striker as he puts together another Newcastle team that will be going forward and attacking the opposition.

That attacking style of player has to be an attraction to any striker wanting to score goals.

Keegan also believes fringe England players have a better chance of impressing England manager Fabio Capello with first-team football at Newcastle.

Crouch has already said he is sick of not getting enough playing time with the Reds and it’s hard to criticize a player who just want to play more football.

But we have to think Portsmouth are favorites for the player, and it looks like Newcastle are a little late in launching their bid - but we’ll see.

Comments welcome.

  • 2 Shanghaitoon // Jun 1, 2008 at 10:01

Crouch would defo be a good addition to the team… but Newcastle a little late??? Where have we heard that before…. LOL

  • 3 najikhin // Jun 1, 2008 at 10:02

    yes..buy him..plz..better than nothing..

  • 4 ToonKing // Jun 1, 2008 at 10:04

would like him to join….when i see him i’m always like “hey hahahaha there’s the robot again ahahhah” but then he does something really unexpected and i’m like “………damn”

get him on board, price is right too.

  • 5 Taiwantoon // Jun 1, 2008 at 10:07

Wouldn’t he be too old for the board?

  • 6 SydneyToon // Jun 1, 2008 at 10:08

Would love him, but not sure how this would fit in with the policy of lower wages?

  • 7 toptoon // Jun 1, 2008 at 10:12

wouldn’t set the world alight as far as major signings go, but will give us more options upfront i suppose. come on MA and KK give us a signing to shout about!

  • 8 Dave // Jun 1, 2008 at 10:16

Portsmouth had there bid rejected as Liverpool wanted more money, there was even talk that Liverpool wanted 15 million for him, but I think 8 million is a fair bid

  • 9 toonarmy08 // Jun 1, 2008 at 10:31

We are not too late as Redknapp said yesterday on ssn that he had no contact at all with liverpool regarding crouch, but did confirm hhis interest in dunne!

  • 10 dick // Jun 1, 2008 at 10:33

8 million thats a laugh, toon have bid 2 bags of peanuts and a free house in sunderland

  • 11 Steveo // Jun 1, 2008 at 10:34

would be a fantastic addition no matter what people may think about him.. the truth is he is a very effective player. i’d like to see us start pushing for the likes of mcfadden, gudjohnsen and sidwell.. proven quality premiership players who will no doubt improve our team!

  • 12 Soren // Jun 1, 2008 at 10:35

Hasn’t Benitez said he wants £15m for Crouch? £8m would be a good price if we can get him. But would rather see our midfield getting bigger and better.

  • 13 Steveo // Jun 1, 2008 at 10:38

these are the sort or realistic signings which would make a real difference to the squad. once we get these kind of players in .. wise and vetere can produce a couple of exotic signings to show for all their troublesome travelling!

  • 14 The Entertainers // Jun 1, 2008 at 10:41

He is the type of striker we need at Newcastle, to play along with Owen and Martins. After all we all know the Duke wont last a full campaign. I would prefer a Gomez or Gomis as i believe they would score more and offer more in movement, however Crouch would still the type of buy i for one am hoping for.

  • 15 dougnufc // Jun 1, 2008 at 10:43

I would love him to be in the B&W but I would prefer Bendtner - Young and Good

  • 16 Jobo // Jun 1, 2008 at 10:44

(A Message from me - an LFC Fan) -

If Bent is worth 18million then Crouch is worth 25million.

Peter Crouch (when played) is superb - his technique is scarily good. 2007 seen him finish top scorer for Liverpool, England and even second to Kaka in Champs League.

When we first heard dtories linking us to Crouch - I have to be honest and admit that I wasn’t too keen - how wrong I was - take it from me - Crouchy is a crackin lad and a great footballer.

  • 17 Drago // Jun 1, 2008 at 10:45

I dont want that to happen, we have Carroll ir our team, and he can win more headers than Crouch…

  • 18 John // Jun 1, 2008 at 10:53

    Bendtner is cack

  • 19 Leo // Jun 1, 2008 at 10:56

yeah bentner would be good but so would crouch, if we sign him he needs to do the robot for us at the news conferance to appease the fans haha

  • 20 Taiwantoon // Jun 1, 2008 at 10:56

Considering he has only 1 year left in his contracrt and he has stated that he has no intention of renewing it, 5 million would still be a good offer IMO.

This is the time the recruitment team show why they are on the salaries if KK is really interested.

  • 21 Tom_Toon // Jun 1, 2008 at 11:38

    Bendtner is better than Crouch.

  • 22 NUFCFAN // Jun 1, 2008 at 11:46

Bendtner is class - and pretty arrogant, and would never get him.

Signing crouch would surely hurt Carrol

  • 23 Geordie Gerrard7 // Jun 1, 2008 at 11:47

bendtner is better in goal than crouch

  • 24 toonarmy08 // Jun 1, 2008 at 11:52

dont agree tomtoon ,i think crouch is better than bendtnar.better goal to game ratio aswell.not keen on bendtnar at all ,overated!

  • 25 Tom_Toon // Jun 1, 2008 at 11:56

Bendtner is severely underated, hes only 20/21 aswell. Croch will be 28 soon.

  • 26 Soren // Jun 1, 2008 at 11:57

Bendtner is the most overrated player. They always talk about him in Denmark. Yes he has talent, but is made up to be better than he actually is, and to top that, he thinks to much of himself.
    Crouch over Bendtner any day.

  • 27 Tom_Toon // Jun 1, 2008 at 11:58

Hes underated in the prem, always makes an impact when he comes on.

  • 28 Geordie Gerrard7 // Jun 1, 2008 at 11:59

crouch over bendtner but to be honest wouldnt be ooverwhelmed with either, would prefer gomis at a decent price, or a fit ashton

  • 29 Taiwantoon // Jun 1, 2008 at 12:03

Bendtner is rated by AW, that says it all for me really.

  • 30 Geordie Gerrard7 // Jun 1, 2008 at 12:04

see we are linked with Alvaro Negredo, he is a great player, but dont think he suits the prem 1 bit

  • 31 Geordie Gerrard7 // Jun 1, 2008 at 12:05

not rated to highly by adebayor though is he lol

  • 32 Punk Skunk // Jun 1, 2008 at 12:05

    Reckon he’d do well here!..
    …Maybe in a kinda…Keegan/Thoshack….Owen/Crouch way?..

  • 33 NUFCFAN // Jun 1, 2008 at 12:07

    so according to the papers spurs want;

    John Bostock
    Samuel Eto’o
    Diego Milito
    David Bentley
    Anton Ferdinand
    Richard Dunne
    Gio Dos Santos

~Being a spurs fan must be quite smug this summer

  • 34 Taiwantoon // Jun 1, 2008 at 12:10

ashton, if fit, would be a relly good signing, but it’s not likely to happen, is it? Having said that, I am not a big fan of target man style of play anyway.

  • 35 Soren // Jun 1, 2008 at 12:16

More the team around Bendtner which makes him look good. He has had some games where hes come on as a sub a made something, certainly not always, but so has many others. So underated he is not.

  • 36 Punk Skunk // Jun 1, 2008 at 12:18

    Agree Taiwantoon,
but if we’re gonna play 433, there doesn’t have to be a target man, just someone who’s good with the ball in a tight spot, hard shot, deft, good header a la…Viduka, Ashton, Crouch?..etc…

  • 37 Bill F // Jun 1, 2008 at 12:28

KK (staring at DW who is sitting at his desk mouth open and drooling. His eyes are glazed over and he is staring at a sheaf of papers).
“Please Mr Wise can you do something with that dossier”.
KK turns to TM, can’t understand it he has been like that since I added Crouchy to the list, I’m not sure if he is up to all the pressure”
TM, “Naah boss he’s been like that since he was given the list by MA weeks ago, hic”

  • 38 Nick Dryden // Jun 1, 2008 at 12:51

It isn’t really Crouch’s fault as ironically he is no the best in the air and he does have a decent touch on the deck, but just having him in the team would encourage long ball football, even with good players in the team. Look at England v Croatia at wembley. 90 mins of just bombing long balls up to Crouch.
I’m sorry, but I like the way the club is being run with wage ceilings and young hungry talented players coming in. I would much rather have Gomis than Crouch and I think we could have had Gomis ages ago but KK wasn’t keen. It’s sad that KK doesn’t want any youngsters from Brazil either, unlike the two 17 year old twins at Manu. After the boom and bust years under shepherd, we have to alter our strategy. KK has to understand this. Keeping perma crocks like Viduka and Duff on on 3 million each a year is just unsustainable. We’re in a universal credit crunch.

  • 39 HonoraryGeordie // Jun 1, 2008 at 13:07

    He’s no Dean Ashton!

  • 40 HonoraryGeordie // Jun 1, 2008 at 13:08

talking of Ashton, is he playing tonight? Then everyone will see what quality we should be aiming for

  • 41 ELFER // Jun 1, 2008 at 13:11

I’m very VERY frithtened this is real! I hope not, this would make us the loughers of the league and the freaks too…please don’t make it real!! :-(

  • 42 scott9 // Jun 1, 2008 at 13:26

we can beat portsmouth to crouch if we want him that much i wud be very disapointed in loosing out on a player to pompey

  • 43 micepie // Jun 1, 2008 at 13:27

Elfer - why are you frightened? If you are because we haven’t signed anyone yet, well it’s hartdly like we’re in early August or anything.
The fact that we’re letting some players go may well show that we have more intent on signing better replacemenents.

And Crouch is a very good player.

  • 44 Egar // Jun 1, 2008 at 14:05

    Get Crouch.

  • 45 Oga // Jun 1, 2008 at 15:25

    Would prefer Ashton too Crouch.

I would prefer Gomis or Gomez over either.

  • 46 Daniel Petersen // Jun 1, 2008 at 17:23

I’m actually excited about this. I think Crouch will be a good signing if we are going to play the 4-3-3 system KK used at the end of the season. Oba , Owen , and Crouch up front with Viduka & Carrol as a subs. It has potental. We just need some midfielders that can feed them the ball.

  • 47 Ian // Jun 1, 2008 at 18:17

If Owen was leaving I would like Crouch, but I do not see him fitting in at all with Martins and Owen.

He poaches around the box the same as Owen.

Martins can poach or carry the ball from as far back as the half way line to score, Cisse can do the same.

So for me, no much rather have Cisse a far higher scorer who has more to his game and for the same price.

Without a superb attacking midfield who is going to get the ball past their defenders?

Not Crouch or Owen that is for sure.

  • 48 Yorkie Dave // Jun 1, 2008 at 18:51

I have to question nufcs passion and ambition to win things if he is the type of player e are after. mind you with our strikers tending to get injured long term hope he does sign and some one breaks his legs!!! WOULD RATHER KEP AMEOBI!!!!!!!! He is not the type of big forward we should be goig for. WE NEED SOMEONE IN THE MOULD OF DROGBA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 49 Yorkie Dave // Jun 1, 2008 at 18:54

id offer a months wages to sign Gomez Gomis or ashton intead of this stick man!!! all 3 100 times better!!!! in fact would rather take my nan to play upfront than crouch and she died 18 years ago!!!!

  • 50 Marty // Jun 1, 2008 at 20:11

Don`t think he would suit at all, holds the ball up n scores scary goals but not enough n wages wloud be quite high.Forget him n get OBA`S Brother or somethin :-) :-)

  • 51 obamagic // Jun 1, 2008 at 20:40

    Sign Mr. Roboto!

  • 52 Ausgeordie // Jun 2, 2008 at 2:18

Funny how some people love the guy but some hate him. Must be hard being a manager and pleasing everyone.

I think we are getting rid of so many players so that new players know they will get first team football when they come in. Nothing worse than being second fiddle to a second rate ageing has been.

  • 53 Ian // Jun 2, 2008 at 9:27

Dont hate the guy, he is brilliant for the right purpose, if we had a brilliant scoring midfield who can run with the ball, he may have been the best purchase, he is good in front of Liverpool and England but we dont have that team behind him to supply those sorts of opportunities.

We need a striker who usually plays down the right, can run at players (preferably as quick as Martins as Martins is on his own to many times), is tall for headers around the box, premiership proven, a top scorer on regular basis, good in pressure situations ie winning cups.

Surely we look at the role first, then try to find the player that fits?

It isnt if someone is good or bad.

  • 54 gallwgate31 // Jun 2, 2008 at 19:00

    God no…….

We need midfield genius’s, players who can create and actually cross the ball.

On a day we see Emre possibly leave the club we are linked with the ‘ bin-dippers’ cast offs, certainly not good enough.

I would rather an unknown prospect for far less money and less wages.

  • 55 Ian // Jun 2, 2008 at 20:14

I agree about the midfield genius’s, but we arent linked with many!! There is time yet.
