Reports in Portugal suggest that Italian giants Milan are preparing a summer bid for Sporting Lisbon’s Miguel Veloso.
Miguel Veloso – Italian giants interested in player
The Sporting Lisbon midfielder has attracted interest from several of Europe’s top clubs in recent seasons, and Newcastle have been linked with the player recently, but no formal approach by any club has yet been made.
However, it is now understood that negotiations for a potential move to Serie A club AC Milan are now underway for the player who just turned 22 years old last month.
Milan are said to be keen to bolster their midfield options and view the youngster as the ideal replacement for their aging Italian international, Gennaro Gattuso who may be leaving in the summer.
Miguel Veloso will be in Portugal’s team at Euro 2008, and is reluctant right now to discuss his future.
It is thought that a bid of around £20M could see him on the move during the close season.
If the player is made available there will be plenty of Premier League clubs who will be interested in signing the player, and we’re fairly sure he will not come to Newcastle given that Man United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham are said to be some of the clubs interested in him.
Veloso is Portuguese and plays defensive midfield for Sporting Lisbon, but he can also play as a center-back or left-back.
Miguel started his career at SL Benfica, but at the age of 14 he switched to rivals Sporting Clube de Portugal (Sporting Lisbon), where he has now played for 5 straight seasons and eventually made the first team squad in the 2004-2005 season.
He stands 5’11″ tall and has so far played for Sporting Lisbon 51 times.
Last August, Miguel was called up for the Portuguese National squad for the first time, for a European 2008 qualifier against Armenia and he eventually made his full international debut for Portugal against Azerbaijan on 13 October 2007.
Miguel has so far played 6 times for his country.
