AC Milan After Newcastle Target Veloso

Reports in Portugal suggest that Italian giants Milan are preparing a summer bid for Sporting Lisbon’s Miguel Veloso.

Miguel Veloso – Italian giants interested in player

The Sporting Lisbon midfielder has attracted interest from several of Europe’s top clubs in recent seasons, and Newcastle have been linked with the player recently, but no formal approach by any club has yet been made.

However, it is now understood that negotiations for a potential move to Serie A club AC Milan are now underway for the player who just turned 22 years old last month.

Milan are said to be keen to bolster their midfield options and view the youngster as the ideal replacement for their aging Italian international, Gennaro Gattuso who may be leaving in the summer.

Miguel Veloso will be in Portugal’s team at Euro 2008, and is reluctant right now to discuss his future.

It is thought that a bid of around £20M could see him on the move during the close season.

If the player is made available there will be plenty of Premier League clubs who will be interested in signing the player, and we’re fairly sure he will not come to Newcastle given that Man United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham are said to be some of the clubs interested in him.

Veloso is Portuguese and plays defensive midfield for Sporting Lisbon, but he can also play as a center-back or left-back.

Miguel started his career at SL Benfica, but at the age of 14 he switched to rivals Sporting Clube de Portugal (Sporting Lisbon), where he has now played for 5 straight seasons and eventually made the first team squad in the 2004-2005 season.

He stands 5’11″ tall and has so far played for Sporting Lisbon 51 times.

Last August, Miguel was called up for the Portuguese National squad for the first time, for a European 2008 qualifier against Armenia and he eventually made his full international debut for Portugal against Azerbaijan on 13 October 2007.

Miguel has so far played 6 times for his country.

Let me tell you who would be an excellent signing for my former club to play in the midfield role.

Amdy Faye. This boy is gold dust. He can sit in front of the back four and soak up the defence. And he can push forward and play alongside another holding player like Nicky Butt. He would be a top class addition.

In terms of a more creative presence why not put in a cheeky bid for Tugay from Blackburn? He’s a midfield magician of the highest order.

Gattuso has already commited his future to AC Milan. Came out and said that the other week after being linked with prem or move back to rangers when AC signed Flamini. He wants to stay and scrap for his place.

This is just stupid. We’re being linked with anyone and everyone. Getting boring now, think I’ll stick to BBC Sport and wait for something official to come through.

Won’t get Veloso, won’t get Gomez, won’t get Arda, won’t get Ashton, won’t get Aimar, haven’t got Modric. Utter tosh.

Ed you should mention this in an Article!
Forget about Veloso, if AC Milan want him we’ve got Bob Hope and no hope.

Sporting have already agreed a fee with spurs for the player but his agent is still offering him around to up his wages. the player would like to wait till after the euros but levy is trying to push it through. The link to newcastle is a bit strange seeing as he is a top quality player who will be one of the stars of the euros. He will demand big wages(spurs offering 60k a week) and will cost 19mill. Milan arent after him as he is to similsr to pirlo and flamini was bought as a replacement for gattuso. They wouldnt spunk most of there transfer budget on a player to warm the bench. I havent heard any concrete transfer news regarding newcastle but do know that links to arda turan are wide of the mark.

20 mill just seems too much for Veloso.
and if AC Milan after him then we can forget about him.
we can get Timoshchuk (Zenit) for less on a holding midfield role.

I ened up having breakfast with him & his partner I asked him what were his favourite years in England. His answer.. It was playing in the Kevin Keegan team if KK hadn’t left he would have stayed at the toon. SO those were his best years fathead.

Nah – too much like the Viana stories – loads of money, but no presence or premiership style of play. We need an experienced bruiser as defensive midfield – not another hispanic alice-band wearer – no matter how pretty his football.

forget about veloso. will never get him even if no teams in Serie A is interested. if i were him i’d hang around Lisbon looking to join bigger teams next year rather than joining a unknown midtable team somewhere in cold NE England. just sign the likes of Shorey, Larsson, Zarate who just want to fight and stay in EPL and move on. waste no more in unrealistic targets pls
