Big Sam To Get Blackburn Rovers Job

Blackburn Rovers chairman John Williams is reported to have already drawn up a contract offer for former Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce, as he prepares to lose manager Mark Hughes to either Chelsea or Manchester City.

Sam Allardyce – likely new manager at Blackburn Rovers

The Sun is reporting today that Williams has already decided on Allardyce as Hughes’ replacement.

Blackburn Rovers are ready to offer the former Blackpool, Bolton and Newcastle manager £2M a year, and Williams believes he is the man to take the club back into Europe.

We think Sam was on £3M/year at Newcastle, and was highly compensated when he was sacked by the club in January.

Big Sam has been out of work since being released by Newcastle in January, and he was never given a decent chance at the club. Certainly 6 months is hardly enough for a manager.

But he was finally replaced by Kevin Keegan more for the way the team were playing than anything else.

Newcastle Owner Mike Ashley took a chance in replacing Sam mid-way through the season, and overall the bet paid off with Kevin making Newcastle into a much better looking side, once he had time to get to know the squad he had inherited from Sam.

And many of the players Sam brought in last summer such as Beye, Faye, Enrique, Barton, Geremi and Viduka are first team starters under Kevin.

Mark Hughes is certainly in demand, and two top clubs, Man City and Chelsea are after him, and we would expect his choice to be Chelsea.

That would mean that Big Sam could also be in the frame for the Eastlands job, but we don’t think Sam would put up with the nonsense from the club’s Thailand owner Thaksin Shinawatra.

We just cannot see them getting along somehow. 😀

And Sam is said to be keen on the challenge at Blackburn, and we think the job would suit him perfectly, and there’s not much tinkering that needs to be done with the side either, that’s for sure.

Mark Hughes did a fantastic job at Blackburn, after replacing Graeme Souness in 2004, who left for Newcastle (wish he hadn’t), but Blackburn and their fans are now the losers as Mark rightly is being offered some top jobs.

But we also think Sam will do just fine at Blackburn Rovers.

Comments welcome.

If they give him the time, he will deliver the goods. He wasnt given the time, or the money at SJP to prove anything.

Blackburn will do well with him I reckon.

I think Blackburn is the wrong team for him, they are superfit fast attacking and flowing, quick attacks try and score then back again relentless, none of that is in big Sam’s game.

I know this sounds daft but Hughes actually has a worse C.V. than McLaren:

Hughes: Wales just missed out on qualifying for Euro 2004, Blackburn 6th, 10th, Inertoto Cup winners, European Qualification twice.

McLaren: England just missed out on Euro 2008, Boro 7th, 10th, Carling Cup winners, UEFA Cup finalists, European qualification twice.

Obviously its more of an achievment to get Wales to a play off for a major tournament than England finishing 3rd behind Croatia and Russia and he took blackburn over after Souness with most of their best players leaving after he fell out with them (Sound familiar) kept them up and then a top 6 finish the season after is good progress indeed.

But winning a trophy with the smogs, finishing in their best ever league finish and getting them in europe and to a european final is some task!

With that kind of record McLaren will be a future England manager!

    HA! Boltburn.

I agree, he’s likely to look for players like Smith and Barton. He’ll probably try to buy in what’s left of his old Bolton team as well.

Let’s just hope he keeps his hands of Faye though!

Allerdyce was given as much time as we wanted him to have at Newcastle. Don’t blame the lack of time he was given on Ashley, we all wanted shot of him because he wasn’t playing the kind of football we love.

The dreadful perfomances borne out of bizarre selection, useless formations and players being used out of their natural positions had the team so demoralised we would have been relegated if we he’d stayed, and then he would have been fired anyway.

I wish him luck at Blackburn. They already have the makings of Allerdyce’s type of team and he should do well at keeping them in the middle of the table for a few years. Maybe he can even push for Europe.

Hope he gets the job and does well for them. He wasn’t right for us but I still think he is a very accomplished manager. Of course if he wanted to do us a favor on the way by taking Smith off us and giving us Bentley and Santa Cruz that would be great…..but a pipe dream I think 😉

It takes time to turn a good footballing side (Blackburn) into a good hoofing side (Bolton).

They will struggle and flirt with relegation for a couple of seasons till he either succeeds or gets the sack. I know for I have seen the signs.

Thats without taking into account McLarens impact as a coach with Oxford and Derby helping them to promotions and Especially Man Utd where according to Giggs, Beckham, Keane, Schmichael and Ferguson his arrival was the main reason behind the treble.

I dont like McLaren if youre wondering i just feel the players deserved more of a bashing from the cockney press and not just the manager.

Plus i dont like the southern bastards and the way they are trying to ruin the guys career, The same way they did with our own Bobby Robson and Kevin Keegan.

I would have thought that a certain Mr Alan Shearer would have liked to step in to the vacancy at Ewood Park. I think it would have been perfect for all concearned. Yes he would be a rookie but going back to Rovers where he helped win the Premiership, I think he would command respect from everyone, from the dressing room to potential new signings.

Also he would have gained experience, which, hopefully would have kept him in good stead for the Newcastle job if/when that role becomes available.

Unfortunatley it looks like Rovers will have to put up with Fat Sam. I wish Blackburn Rovers the best of luck in the future, God knows they’ll need it!

Allardyce is literally the biggest ground emptying turn off in football.
A man who gloats about kicking Arsenal off the pitch. So Negative playing for 0-0s against Derby etc, awful to watch hoof ball and the OTT physicalm approach.
Like Shepherd, Allardyce is a truly repellent smug fat leech who is a boil on the face of football and NUFC in particular with his ill gotten gains – 4M for totally demoralising a team. I pray god he takes Smith, Barton, Cacapa etc when no on else will. Jus tthinking about Sham makes my blood boil.

Do the people of Blackburn really deserve the appointment of wham bam thank mam for the time of your arse fat sam to their club? He can bring his carrier bag to NUFC for a start – e.g., Barton etc. He will find the rest of his backroom staff on a park bench in Bolton. At least we know one of the bottom three of season 2008-2009 now don’t we? Poor Blackburn.

    Hughes has a bad record???

I think he is one of the best managers in the premiership and if he took a position where there was support and money behind him I think he could lead the way. Not sure if the new City owner is the right boss for him, if he starts telling Hughes what to do, he better be well practised at Karate!!

No other club has the fitness and discipline of Blackburn and all done on a shoestring budget.

How long will he last before taking another sickening golden handshake. Hes pretty much been on holiday since Feburary hasn’t he!

Right so he did a terrible job with us, so ya he’ll probably do a a wee miracle with Rovers.

I don’t like Sam I don’t know why he seemed a bit of a arse to be honest. He never got the time here but I’m kinda glad he didn’t. Looking back over the years you think of a few managers that if they had been given the time could have made something of us but he isn’t one of them.

He lost the fans incredibly quickly (faster then Souness and Roeder who barely had 11 fit players all season.)
When that happens, your fecked, no matter who you are, especially at Newcastle. That’s why St James is such a turn off for managers unfortunatley.

But then he lost the dressing room as well. Wee Given and himself never got on and Given as never been a premodona, he’s dead on, lovely lad, bit of a charmer as well but they just didn’t see eye to eye for some reason and he’s one of the most respected players in the dressing room, then we heard that apparently Harper fell out with him as well. So straight away he’s lost the 2 longest serving most respected players at Newcastle.
He choice of captain wasn’t the best either.

So no fans backing and no dressing room backing and a bad captain.
Not a great start for him. Not to mention his tactics, if he had any, were more then a wee but awful.

Ach he might be suited to Rovers. Might do well.

Lets be honest, Big Sam was an excellent manager before joining you lot, as was Kenny Dalglish, Graeme Souness, Ruud Gullit, did i forget anyone? Its your clubs nasty habit of turning good managers bad and world class players into sunday league players. There is no way David Bentley would be stupid enough to join you and WRECK his carreer, you wouldnt be able to afford him anyway.
WAKE UP, you are about 2 seasons and 6 managers away from where we are at.

Not sure how this will go down with Rovers big rivals Bolton?

However this one seems to have some legs about it and i can see Big Sam having a go across there and doing an average job.

His biggets problem here was we DEMAND attacking football, he only knows defensive. Over at Blackburn he will get away with his style better.
