The transfer season for most clubs hasn’t really started yet, but it’s already been a little frustrating for Newcastle United fans, who have seen players leaving but nobody has yet come into the club.
Kevin Keegan – on holiday for the next 2 weeks
It turns out that Kevin Keegan is on holiday and will not return to Tyneside for another couple of weeks, so any transfer business will be being forged by our Recruitment team of Dennis Wise, Tony Jimenez and Jeff Vetere.
Of course Kevin would always be available to talk with transfer targets, if need be over the next two weeks.
It looks like not much will be happening until after the Euro 2008 Championship completes near the end of June, and then we can expect the transfers to start moving ahead with some deliberation.
However, the Championships should not impact the Newcastle targets who are not competing in Euro 2008.
Newcastle are yet to add to their squad and have allowed Turkish international Emre to join Fenerbahçe, although that transfer is not yet officially completed.
But there’s no doubt the market remains sluggish right now, and that’s just a little frustrating for Newcastle fans, who are waiting to see the class of player the club can recruit under Kevin Keegan.

Comment #2I still have faith that good things will happen, but we do have to be realistic and accept that 99% of what we read will be total fabrication by hacks.
Talking of which – what’s all this stuff in the Turkish press about Arda? Nothing on Newsnow yet – anyone got anything solid or even translated?

Comment #3Sorry But I felt I had to repeat this, its my thoughts on the frenetic activity by the R-Squad and the infamous dossier.
KK (staring at DW who is sitting at his desk mouth open and drooling. His eyes are glazed over and he is staring at a sheaf of papers).
“Please Mr Wise can you do something with that dossierâ€.
KK turns to TM, can’t understand it he has been like that since I added Crouchy to the list, I’m not sure if he is up to all the pressureâ€
TM, “Naah boss he’s been like that since he was given the list by Mr Ashley weeks ago, hicâ€

Comment #4Me too, keep the faith! It’s rather good to clear out the closet now in order to be ready for the real transfers in July!

Comment #5This isn’t a typical year in the sense that we are on the eve of European Championship tournament, I know it’s frustrating but who apart from Spurs have made a significant move in the transfer market? Also transfers take so much longer these days as the negotiating cards are no longer held by the clubs, it’s the players who have the upper hand in negotiations and if there are a number of clubs interested then it stands to reason that the process is going to take a long time. I believe NUFC are in negotiations right now bit clubs have to fly beneath the radar as much as hey can in case some othere club comes in and nicks the player from under their noses. There’s no one more frustrated than me at the perceived lack of movement, but I have faith that the RIGHT players will come i n, hasty transfers in the past have done for us!

Comment #10It is quite natural that its is sluggish now.
Most big stars, and their clubs, want to use Euro 2008 to boost their value.
Add to that that 3 potential big spenders, Inter, Chelsea and Man City, are busy getting new managers in at the moment.
Every agent, player and club are waiting for clubs like to start the transfer-merry-go-round. When it does lots of players will become available and be on the move.

Comment #11the transfer window only opened up on sunday i believe, so i am hoping that now is the start of something. i read kk is on holiday still for another week, i think he will be kept up to date with developments while he is away, if there is a player he wants and another club make a bid for them, i think he will be told, and then a bid will come in. I think that is the way they will play it like. but i hope something happens before the 17th june, season ticket deadline.

Comment #12Nothing is going to happen until the transfer window actually opens and thats still weeks away. We simply CANNOT sign a player before then, so whats the problem.
Of course the Transfer Market is sluggish Ed, the damn window isnt open, is it!!!!

Comment #13Doesnt open till the 1st July, players and clubs can agree terms with some sort of pre contract type of arrangement I think, but really until the full contract is signed nothing is certain.

Comment #18Guys, the transfer window opens on July 1st, not June 1st.
The reported signings you’ve read about so far are pre-contract agreements. Players don’t officially sign until July 1st

Comment #20People like Modric have only signed pre-contract agreements to join Spurs on July 1st (when the money can be transferred between clubs). But another club could still come along and steal the player before the official window opens.
Its happened quite a few times. Mikel had signed a pre-contract with Man Utd, and Chelsea bought it out and paid both clubs so they could nick him.

Comment #26Hoy why are you worried about kk being on holiday!
He has nowt to do with who comes and goes I thought that was apparent now! Different matter if Wise is away for two weeks to Kabul.
