Sky Sports is reporting today that a host of Premier League clubs are tracking Austrian hit-man Roland Linz.
Roland Linz – 6’1″ Austrian striker
Newcastle United are said to be one of the clubs who have scouted him in recent months and will be watching him closely during the upcoming Euro 2008 Championships for Austria.
Roland must be about the 234th player Newcastle are said to be interested in, so far, this summer. We should really keep a list of everyone we’ve been linked with as the summer goes on. 😀
Up to five Premier League clubs were said to be watching the 26 year-old for Austria’s warm-up game against Malta last week when the striker scored two good goals.
The Sporting Braga star has played very well last season in Portugal, when his club finished 7th in the Portuguese First division.
Top teams are starting to take notice of the 6’1†hit man, including West Ham, Middlesbrough and Fulham, as well as the Toon.
Linz scored 11 league goals for Sporting last season, in just 26 appearances, out of the club’s total of 32 goals scored. He is now obviously hoping to impress in the coming weeks.
A spokesman for agency FN Sports, told skysports.com yesterday:
“There has been interest in Roland from the Premiership and a number of clubs were watching him again at the Malta game.”
“But he is focused on the Euros at the moment and we will see what happens after the tournament.”
Linz has played 31 times for Austria and scored 7 goals and Braga is the player’s 8th club.
We don’t know too much about Linz, but we wonder if he’s good enough for Newcastle, and of course he is completely unproven in the Premier league.
But we’ll get a better idea during Euro 2008, but we still think he would be a big risk.
