Newcastle Still Tracking Injured Giles Barnes

Newcastle are still interested in 19 year-old Derby County winger Giles Barnes.

Giles Barnes – 19 year old Derby County midfielder

Even though Derby County were relegated last year, manager Paul Jewell will try to keep his best players, and Rams chairman Adam Pearson has signaled the club’s intention to try to hold onto youngster Giles Barnes:

“He’s young, British and has got a lot of talent – but he is injured and it’s an injury we don’t expect him to come back from until October time,”

“So if clubs are brave enough to take a punt on Giles while he’s injured, then we would look at every offer.”

“But I think it would be highly surprising – at this stage of his rehabilitation – for a club to come in for him.”

“But you can’t rule anything out.”

Barnes had a knee operation a few months ago, and initially it was thought he’d be ready for the start of next season, but the delay will probably stop Newcastle from bidding in the summer, although he could be a target for next January.

Newcastle were interested in Barnes last January, and we are said to have bid around £2M for the youngster.

Derby County want £3M plus incentives for Barnes, and we think the 19 year-old is worth that.

He would fit right into the mold of play Keegan will be playing and he’s also English.

News on the grapevine is that he would be keen to join Newcastle United, which is good to hear.

We think Giles will be a good acquisition for the squad, and we hope we can get him sometime soon, if not in the summer.

Comments welcome.

If we are going to sign him now, its bound to have conditions attached regarding his fitness. We could do a deal where he comes back for Derby, gets fit and then joins us in January.

I think he would be a good addition to the squad.

Graeme – Newcastle would have to pay for his rehabilitation aswell then because why would Derby if they know hes only going to play for them a handful amount of times more?

I think also he would be great! Maybe he’s cheap now that he’s injured? And we have a good medical staff who have a lot of experience unfortunately in dealing these injured players…so I say take him!

Rather than pay too much money for TURAN.

he is injured – what, now we’ve gone from buying sick notes to actually buying ready made injured palyers . . . wont happen, I hope. We need a good 2 first teamers and 1 good young squad member all fitting the wing/att mid role, and to date I’ve seen nothing from NUFC to suggest they are on that track. FFS its rooney all over again, bid for players you know you wont get so you lot buy season tickets (I would but I’m in Oz) – we’re really shaping up for a battle for 10th place next year.

3million would be an absolute steal. Realistic signing this one, can definitely see us getting him if we attempt to.

This is the type of signing we should be making. I know hes injured, but he he was outstanding against us at SJP last season.

I have no problem Wise and co searching the globe looking for the next superstar, however lets not forget whats on our doorstep, especially if FIFA bring in the terrible 6-5 rule in the next 3-4 years.

Look at some of the players other clubs have BOUGHT from lower league clubs:
    Walcott
    Upson
    Young
    Davies
    Sinclair
    Jagielka
    Lescott
    Hart
    Foster
    Lennon
    Dawson

    and now Ramsey

We need to get on this band waggon and sign the likes of Barnes and this lad at Carlisle. I know you can still spend big bucks on kids (Walcott) but there sell on value ‘should’always be high. Just a thought.
