Nobby Solano’s Contract Not Renewed By West Ham

Surprising news today that former Newcastle United favorite Nolberto Solano will be leaving West Ham United this summer.

Nobby Solano – will become a free agent in the summer

We had thought Nobby had signed a two year contract last summer, when he moved to London for personal reasons, but we guess it was just a one year deal.

That’s not good business for West Ham who paid around £2M for Solano from Newcastle last August.

The veteran Peru midfielder will leave Upton Park after the Hammers decided yesterday against renewing his contract yesterday.

Solano made 23 appearances for West Ham and scored 4 goals.

Nobby was one of the most popular players ever to play at St James’ Park after Kenny Dalglish signed him from Boca Juniors in the summer of 1998 for around £2.5M.

He was initially sold to Aston Villa by Bobby Robson in 2004, but Graeme Souness brought him back to Tyneside a year later. Nobby played 230 games for Newcastle and scored 37 goals, some of them memorable efforts.

We don’t think he will return to Newcastle this time, and we think Nobby will have no trouble getting a new deal, maybe with one of the promoted teams to the Premiership, like Hull City.

He may also decide to play for a couple of seasons back in Argentina.

Wasnt one of the reasons he wanted to go to west ham because he wanted to be closer to his family in London? So i cant see him going to any of the promoted teams, maybe Reading or Fulham as they’re in or around London

Bring back Nobby! Cover on the right side of the pitch, a bit of creativity, he’s a Geordie, why not?

Beye and Nobby down the right, we’d be invincible

And the point is what, exactly??

He decided he wanted to leave for his own reasons; it hasnt worked out, tough. He will still be able to play his footy down the south, someone is bound to sign him up.

He can still pass a ball, something we’ve been lacking midfield

Nobby is the way to go in my opinion, follow the new idea (if it is true) a top young but cheap hopeful and he would be the main player for the position, but provide cover in the form of the likes of Nobby and Butt who are also cheap but because they are good players close to the end of their careers. Players like these can go on and on, look at Speed, it just has to be taken year by year.
Just buy promising youngsters and if it goes wrong the club is facing relegation again.

Love him, but he doesn’t want to be outside of London anymore. Best of luck to him in getting a new deal with a London club. I would have thought Fulham would snap him up in a heartbeat.

Get Nobby back he would be great cover for Right Back/Right Midfield & would bring just the experience we need. He wouldn’t be a regular but would be what a player to have on the bench.

Get him back! Bring his family to Tyneside. When you get the bums rush from a London club like that it shows that you should come back to NUFC. Go on KK – go and get Nobby back. Great cover, even first team still.

ian- iv never onc said we should just buy promising youngsters, we shud be buying quality proven players who are coming into their prime, not a 33 yr old who has already played for us twice and left us for the reason tht his family wanted him in london, hes a legend, but a legend from the past, we need to luck 2 the future, he wont come back anyway as incase u all forgot he didnt want to leave but had to for his family

I agree with Graeme, If he really did leave for personal reasons then he should stay in the South. I suspect that if he had really wanted to stay with us then his needs would have been accomodated as regards travelling. Newcastle is not exactly on the other side of the Earth.
He was a good servant to the club and I was dissapointed he left, but he made his choice.
It may be that he still has these reasons for staying in the south and does not want to come back anyway so the speculation may be irrelevent. I still wish him well whatever he decides although I think he may have burnt his bridges with us.

Always loved his style. Made a few cracking goals for us and if there was a slight chance for him to come back (if possible to combine with his private life) then it would be fantastic to get him.

I think he still can play 2 years (then he is 35) and would be perfect cover for our right side of the team (RB or RM).

But I think it will never happen. I hope he can play a few good seasons for whatever team he goes to.

Do you not think Nobby’s real reason for leaving the toon was Big Sam?

Why did he go to West Ham for a years contract. I know he said family reasons but……

Plus West Ham are crazy for letting him go.

Wonder where he will end up.

You were are real gentleman when i met you

    Good Luck Nobby

He’s too old, but as potential cover and someone to work with young players…

Didn’t play many hours of football last season, but four goals is more than Smith (to name but one) scored.

I wondered if Solano didnt like Sam’s way of running things but was wise enough not to say, I think the same as Neilos.

He may be negotiating his last years with us as we speak, cant think that any bridges will be burnt.

He was a free transfer muppet, 2m get real! He was a good player when we had 12 1st team players out but he wont get into our 1st team next season when fingers crossed we might actually have a team back. He will be a decent little player for someone mid-bottom table though.

Surely we could give him a player / coaching role. Nobby is technically way superior to any coaches we have at NUFC and could far better bring on the more skilful young players. What are the alternatives : Mc Dermott !!!!!!!!

Aye he could def teach some of our players how to take a corner or a free kick and how to cross a ball. Last time I checked we were incapable of any of those tasks.

    elliott, thats not fair.

Geremi is a VERY consistant crosser of the ball from free kicks and corners. I mean, he hits the first defender, plumb, every bloody time. He must spend hours every day practicing to be that consistant!!

    Bill F- yes!!!!

those of you who wouldnt have Nobby back now, probably also wouldnt have had Butt in the team if we were having the same conversation about Butt last season and he was our best midfielder even though Gerami got his chance to show quality under keegan later on.

Pair up one old and one young if possible and have them transfer skills, it makes for a solid and calmer team.
