Beye Wants Top Six Next Season

Habib Beye, The Newcastle United Blog Player of the Season for last year, has retired from International Football.

Habib Beye – now retired from International play for Senegal

Habib announced his International retirement from Senegal, after the African Cup of Nations completed earlier this year, so he is having a well deserved rest after his great play for the team last season.

He played a total of 35 times for his country, with one goal.

Beye, however, is now looking at finishing high up in the league next season with Newcastle:

“I think we can finish in the top six.”“We need to keep working all of the time to close this gap.”

“I still think we can get in the UEFA Cup – or better.” “We need to think positively as a team.”

“We need to have the same mentality as the clubs going into the Champions League – we need to be ambitious.”

“But I think anywhere in the top six would be a good season for us next year.”

Newcastle showed good sings, near the end of the season, that their current squad was as good as Kevin kept saying it was.

While it looks like we’ll lose quite a few players in the summer, if we can indeed bring in 5 top players, our squad for next season will be very good, if on the small side.

But it will take some time to get back to a top four team as Beye concedes as he continued:

“I think we could see against Chelsea there was a gap between us and the top four.”  “But we showed in the first half that we can live with them.”

“We need to keep improving, but next season will be different when everybody starts the season on zero points.”

With Beye now on Tyneside, probably for an extended stay, Newcastle fans are cautiously optimistic that next season we’ll do very well in the league.

And perhaps we can finish around where we should be – at least in the top six.

Comments welcome.

good words by Beye, best right back in the world, but he should say this to the board, especially to MA.

top 6 will not be easy.

    Beye is mint.

    from the chronicle/sheilds gazzette:

NEWCASTLE have been linked with a move for giant Valencia striker Nikola Zigic as part of a swap deal involving Jose Enrique.
Kevin Keegan, however, is looking to add another left-back to his squad, rather than selling one.

Serbian Zigic has been compared to Peter Crouch – he is half an inch taller than the 6ft 7in Liverpool forward – who Keegan remains interested in, although he faces competition from Aston Villa and Portsmouth, with Reds boss Rafa Benitez wanting around £15m for the England star.

If we aim for the top 4 we probably wont get it but we might get second best and come 5th or 6th…

£15m for Crouch? Talk about paying over the odds for an English player.

andhe onl;y has 1 year on hes contract left …He can speak to clubs in January..

Funny really, Owen only has a year on hes aswell but people only mention about 7 mill or so for him…

If crouch is worth 15mill now, owen is worth 30 mill

Beye has proved to be a brilliant signing for NUFC. If the players signed this summer (presuming we do actually sign some) have the same will and determination, we will be a much better side come August.

Now its all down to Wise and his merry band to start bringing in quality 1st team players ASAP!!

    beye is simply brillient

also i would like to say shaaataaap to people saying stuff like english talent is overpriced….

the reason it is overpriced is because the premiership is the most coverted league in the world and strikers who have proved themselves in it have to be top property

crouch if he had enough time on the feild which he deserves would score a hat full of goals

mario gomez is like 20 or something scored some goals in the german league and he is being talked about being £25mil so why is crouch overpriced when he is 15mil and proven in a tough league…

I think Beye could make a good leader we need more leaders on the field we wil b there I see Champions league next season not 5th or 6th one of the big four is going down. However much Spurs buys, I trust the recruitment team and MA they all want success coz thats wat wil put money on the table. I bet MA is also putting pressure on them.

If I ever buy a shirt with a name and number the number will be 21 and the name will be Beye. Wish he’d change his number to 4, though that’s not usually a RB # is it?

Defo my favourite Toon player. The guy just exudes class.
