Steve Round Currently In Limbo at Newcastle

Kevin Keegan is bracing to lose his coach Steve Round to Everton during the summer.

Steve Round – will move to join David Moyes at Everton?
The former Middlesbrough and England coach joined Newcastle under Sam Allardyce last summer, and while several of Big Sam’s back-room staff left after Kevin Keegan arrived, Round has done well under Kevin in his coaching role.

Keegan wants to keep Steve at the club but the highly-rated coach has not yet been offered a new deal, and news today that he is currently out of contract at Newcastle.

So we’re not sure what Newcastle’s official position is towards retaining Round at the club.

David Moyes has yet to appoint an Assistant Manager, after former Newcastle Youth Academy Coach, Alan Irvine, left for Preston North End last November.

Alan did an excellent job keeping the famous Lancashire club in the Championship.

The club finally finished in 15th position, after they were in the bottom 3 when Alan took over on 20th November of last year.

If Steve Round does leave Newcastle, and we’d like to see him stay at the club, there are a number of good former Newcastle coaches who will be available.

These include Nigel Pearson, recently sacked by Southampton, and Chelsea’s Steve Clark, who looks to be leaving the London club.

Comments welcome.

ed! you are profoundly wrong to assume nigel pearson is a good coach.
its funny how all the “insider” stories dried up when he left. its even funnier how our defence improved considerably onece he left.
if he is that good how come he wasnt offered the saints job. how come every club he has been involved with have struggled. boro, west brom, newcastle and southampton.

i would hate it if he came back

I think TM is a bit like that character in back to the future who cleans the cars.

I believe the Pearson comment might be Ed’s little joke. And Isn’t Chris Hughton our coach which is why Steve Round is now expendable. Apart from that we also have Adam Sadler and I know you published a list of the backroom staff recently Ed recently. I can’t remember who else was on it but I believe there are quite a few involved in the coaching side of things. Correct me if I am wrong.

Steve Clark would be great, Mourinho trusted in him and the Chelsea boys think very highly of him. No thanks Nigel, but would like to keep Round.

It’s well known that Terry Mac’s one and only roll within the club is to make people laugh.

What is really going on in the backroom at NUFC?
I am getting the impression that our “businessmen” are not “football businessmen”! Round may go as part of the deinfestation of the Fat Sam plague. If KK wants to keep him then surely the bloke needs a contract. Are the blokes who mow the grass happy?
Will they be here next season? There seems to be something a little too slapdash about NUFC at the moment, sad to say.

Did we ever get a club statement on Joey Barton? Can we assume, with the speed that our negotiating team move, that he will still be at St James next season? Is it Dennis Wise or Ernie Wise we signed up?

another contract ramble, what is with out supposed executives who do not do their jobs but still get paid.

Steve Clark- where is he from? i know he was assistant to some great managers in his time but where is he from i wonder…

steve round is a good coach who is young and could get better and better whats wrong with having two capable coaches

hughton and round it means they can discuss training methods and try them out in different ways

ED i have pointed out on a few occasions that Derek Fazackerley is leaving City now Sven has left and that KK has had him on his coaching team with Newcastle, Fulham, England and Man City.
(Despite the fact that he along with Kev fell out with our current Captain)

I think that there is more chance of him joining than that corpse like personality Pearson coming back or Steve Clarke who was a complete shit with Rob Lee, Alan Shearer and Stuart Pearce during his time coaching here with Gullit.
(As KK has a good rapport with all those guys i dont see clarke coming)

For the betting men, The smart money is on Fazackerley

Terry McDermotts role according to Kevs book is to act as a “Buffer” between the coaching staff and the players, Meaning he passes on Kevs thoughts to the players and he passes on the players thoughts to KK.

He also discusses Tactics and Transfers, Scouts players with Kev and as it was pointed out tells jokes.

So he is an Assistant Manager not a coach.

Not all Managers or Assistants take training sessions Eriksson/Grip dont and Ferguson/Queiroz dont either.

Aurthur Cox doesnt take training either but no-one ever questions his role because people assume he works behind the scenes, but everyone questions McDermotts job !

The club dont think that Steve Round is worth what he is asking for in wages. Its reached a bit of a stalemate.
