It’s being reported today that Newcastle United will participate in a pre-season tournament in Majorca, as part of their preparation for what promises to be an important Premier League season.

Kevin Keegan - will take team to Majorca Tournament
Newcastle are busy completing arrangements before formally announcing their involvement in the tournament, although organizers say that it’s already a done deal.
Newcastle will join hosts Real Mallorca, and German Bundesliga teams Hertha Berlin and Hannover 96 in the Summer International Cup in Majorca.
The tournament will take place in early August, with the semi-finals on August 1st, and the final on August 3rd.
Hannover 96 are said to be late replacements for Manchester City, who had to cancel their plans for Majorca, when they qualified for the UEFA Cup through the Fair Play League at the end of last season.
Newcastle have not yet revealed any plans for the pre-season, but Kevin hinted towards the end of last season, he would be taking his team away for some games.
Ylan Singer, is one of the organizers of the competition, and said today:
“It is all official.â€
“Newcastle United will be going to Majorca along with Hertha Berlin and Hannover 96 for the competition with Real Mallorca, which will take place in the Ono Stadium.â€
“The two semi-finals will be on August 1, with the final and the game for third and fourth place two days later.â€
“We are now talking to both the German clubs and Newcastle about the distribution of tickets and details will be available soon.”
The venue is already a popular resort for English and Germans vacationers, and it wouldn’t be surprising if a huge contingent of fans turned up for the tournament.
Newcastle in particular are expected to have many of the Toon Army there to watch the tournament, which will of course will include Newcastle’s new signings for the summer, whoever they finally turn out to be.
Newcastle are expected to augment the tournament with one or two friendlies at St James’ Park, to complete their pre-season preparations.
Spanish club Valencia are expected to be confirmed soon as visitors to St. James’ Park, and in addition, we expect recently promoted to the Championship, Doncaster Rovers, to also play Newcastle.
Kevin Keegan, of course, was born on Valentine’s Day in Armthorpe, Doncaster, back in 1951.
Comments welcome.

This was in Viz top tips. I changed the team from ManU to you know who.
Spurs fans. Save money on expensive new kits by simply strapping a large fake penis to your forehead. It is now clear to all, as to your allegiance.

I said on here last week spurs would sign dos santos, capel , bentley and veloso. They have just announced santos with capel signing this evening. They will be challenging for the league when they get the other two.
Have heard that newcastle are discussing moses from palace.

PS: hey this one appeared on time…..go figure…

i am no big fan of Dos Santos, but he is a decent prospect and Spurs just signed him for 4.7mill…FOUR POINT SEVEN MILLION!!!
That is a serious coup. Of course they will have to pay 3 or so milion extra if he appears a lot, and scores alot etc but this is stil a very impressive deal. Barca obviously do not need or want him if they are letting him go for such a dirt cheap price.
Tottenham are somehow pulling off these crazy bargains, i dont get it.
20 Spyro // Jun 6, 2008 at 14:12
Also, Gudjohnson has apparently said that he will go to West Ham over us if he has to come to England…lol.
Just keeps getting better and better for NUFC doesn’t it. not that i would want him anyway, but it seems the media have caught on to the whole
“….. snubs NUFC” frenzy and they are having a field day.
we are officially the current joke of the premiership
21 MarK // Jun 6, 2008 at 14:12
dos santos will fail in the premier league…modric on the other hand…
22 Spyro // Jun 6, 2008 at 14:22
i dont think he will be a hit in the premiership either, but the fact is, if he isn’t, they haven’t exactly lost a lot of money have they. It is almost like no matter what happens it wont turn out to be too bad of a signing. They could probably sell him back to Spain for around the same price even if he does flop.
You cannot deny that this is a good piece of business on Spurs’ part
23 Joe // Jun 6, 2008 at 14:24
Totally agree Mark think Dos Santos is a bit of a lightweight and a prima donna! Carlos Vela - Arsenals young lad who has just got a work permit is a much better prospect.
24 Davies // Jun 6, 2008 at 14:27
Does anybody have any news on the following prospects:
Turan
Digard
Aimar
Emana
Gomez
Zigic
Cisse
Riise
Crouch
Some of these are worthwhile additions. Perhaps dennis Wise should be looking at this site. Perhaps Tom_Toon could sort him out with a few pointers…
25 faustino // Jun 6, 2008 at 14:28
Very true Spyro re Gudjohnssen…though as has just been pointed out to me he’s far more likely to sign for a club owned by a fellow countrymen isnt he?
26 Spyro // Jun 6, 2008 at 14:30
By the way, people said Zarate woud be too weak for the prem and he wouldnt cut it, however,he didn’t do too bad for a player who joined mid season did he. There is always a chance Dos Santos may set the prem alight even if it does seem unlikely.
27 Spyro // Jun 6, 2008 at 14:31
Faustino, i think the ‘London’ factor is the more influential one.
28 faustino // Jun 6, 2008 at 14:37
True…but given the size of Iceland, Eidur’s Dad is more that likely friends with Egghead, this I can assure you
29 Spyro // Jun 6, 2008 at 14:40
Faustino, what are your honest thoughts on how you think this summer transfer window will go?
30 chennai toon // Jun 6, 2008 at 14:40
mclaren eyes blackburn job………………………sorry blackburn
31 James // Jun 6, 2008 at 14:42
The spin on Eidur story is a joke - he was a Fat Sam target, NEVER a KK one. So because we bid for him with a different manager the media assume we are bidding for him again. He is nothing like the kind of player KK would be interested in. So when he signs for West Ham, or someone else, the media will say he turns down Newcastle.
WE ARE NOT BIDDING FOR HIM YOU STUPID LONDON MEDIA.
32 Spyro // Jun 6, 2008 at 14:44
exactly James, they are doing it on purpose to make us look ridiculous…or more ridiculous, which ever one lol
33 faustino // Jun 6, 2008 at 15:04
Spyro - My head tells me to wait until the 31st of July and see what happens. We’re in total limbo in a PR sense, as a business and and as a club so it’s VERY difficult to predict. The only thing that’s certain is that we have nothing but money, 50k fans and the promise of a potentially exciting football team to offer on the world scale, which is why, sadly, it’s more likely we’ll sign a majority of PL old boys and ‘promising’ 2nd string Europeans again.
Currently, we occupy the same space in the market as we have done for the last ten years - a hypothetical bargaining chip for agents to negotitiate with i.e. our high wage average gives agents an ability to demand more from other Premier League clubs. I believe that’s why we get mentioned in the same breath as every player going and why every player we want is offered to other clubs.
In essence we’re in that world of the wonderful ‘catch 22′ of needing a decent signing to attract decent signings. I still believe if a certain Alan would stop titting about and started coaching at the club, the knock on effect would be a big help. I’d be a hell of a lot more confident of Owen signing a new contract and surely the prospect of working with that coaching set up would be an attraction to a lot of young attacking minded players around the world. In a dream world Gomez and Berabtov would surely salivate at the chance of working with Keegan and Shearer. But egos will prevail and ‘Europe’ will be the key word.
By the end of July [yes July!] last year, Big Sam had only brought in Viduka, Smith, Geremi and Rozenhal and shipped out, Bumble, Bernard, Moore, Gooch, Sibierski, Parker and O’Brian. A situation some people creamed over. Worth remembering I think.
I think it needs remembering that we currently have the worlds greatest motivator in charge so whatever we end up with we’ll have a better season than last year. If next term has to be an interim to develop our exciting young players and navigate into a position to make bigger signings next June/July/August then so be it imo. Just makes for an amazing 2009/2010 and when you’ve waited as long as I have, one years not such a long time.
EDIT : Actually add Pedro to that coaching staff to.

from nufc.com regarding this tournmanet in mallorca. looks like anal oliver is up to his old tricks.
S-pain in the arse
Anyone who has happened to read the German FA’s website since early May will have seen a news item (in English) referring to a pre-season tournament involving Bundesliga and Premier League sides.
Newcastle and Manchester City were mentioned, along with German outfits Hannover 96 and Hertha Berlin - competing for the Multi Media Sports Cup in a four team tournament at Real Mallorca’s Son Moix Stadium in Palma.
However the subsequent award of a UEFA Cup place to Manchester City meant that their opening round in that competition would clash with the Mallorca event.
City then withdrew, leaving the organisers to find a replacement side - and NUFC unable to confirm their participation, for fear of possibly misleading supporters.
Unfortunately the Chronicle have now chosen to mention this, leaving fans in a dilemma over whether or not to risk booking flights before the prices increase still further.
The same source also claim that Hannover are replacing Man City when in fact they themselves publicised the event on their own website in early May.
And the dates they claim of Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd of August differ by 24 hours from information posted to German fans, whose schedule starts 24 hours before - which would make a big difference to flight bookers.
There’s also a blatant attempt at sh*t-stirring in the piece by writing “unless he is overruled by director of football Dennis Wise, United manager Kevin Keegan…..”
After being blamed by fans booking flights to Amsterdam last year when we wrote that Newcastle were listed by SkySports as participating in that event, we opted not to mention this Mallorca jaunt until it was confirmed 100%.
As of now, that’s still the case.
So, if you want to book flights etc. for this tournament, then go right ahead - but at your own risk, not ours.
And if it all turns to dust, blame the slack-jawed old fool at Thomson House. If he was a horse, they’d shoot him.

If Dos Santos is really that great then he won’t be sold at less than 5mil with none of the big four showing interest.
Fact is, he is not that good.

Why does KK go on holiday, if he is ib=n charge of transfers, at this time of the transfer market? Everyone seems to be buying, especially Spurs and we do nothing. It doesn’t seem very good planning to me. Perhaps KK is not in charge of transfers, or, is he past it and not up to speed, having been out of the prem for so long before coming back to us? Perhaps he thinks he will get the bargains that nobody else can see, or, believe that players will be holding back because they want to play for him……….like Dunne!!
42 broon ale // Jun 6, 2008 at 16:16
i thought the 3 wise men were in charge of transfers?
43 James // Jun 6, 2008 at 16:18
KK has had a pretty hectic time since he took over and well deserves a couple of weeks away. because he knows from July 1st it is serious business again with pre-training.
Managers do not get involved with transfers at any of the major clubs. It is ALWAYS between Agents, Scouts, and Director of Football.
I wish people would calm down about signings and stop stressing. It’s not when we buy it’s WHO we buy that is all that matters
