It seems that Newcastle United are less than impressed with the way Liverpool FC are conducting their transfer business this summer.
Rafa Benitez – transfer business done in public
Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill was not happy with the way Liverpool have gone after their prized English International midfielder Gareth Barry, who seems to play so well with Steven Gerrard for England.
Martin O’Neill never went public with the players he was offered by Liverpool, but the Newcastle Evening Chronicle today is indicating that Benitez has offered 19-year-old defenders Emiliano Insua and Jack Hobbs to Newcastle, plus a third youngster.
We’ve watched Jack Hobbs a few times, and the 6’3″ center-back appeared twice for Liverpool last season. He’s also played twice for the England Under-21 side, and looks a very decent prospect, from our viewpoint.
The third player offered by Liverpool was said by a Newcastle United source to be so unknown, they cannot even remember his name. 😀
Insua is an Argentinian, born in Buenos Aires, and played for Liverpool Reserves at St. James Park towards the end of last season, and was signed from Boca Juniors last summer.
He plays left back and stands just 5’5″ tall, and he appeared 5 times for Liverpool last season. He’s played 5 times for the Argentine Under-20 side and once for their Under-23 side this year.
Jack Hobbs, (my mind jumps to cricket every time I write that name), who was born in Peterborough, has been on loan at Scunthorpe United since the January transfer window and played there 9 times and scored one goal.
While we don’t want to lose James Milner to any club, we think Hobbs may be a good capture, if Liverpool are willing to let him go on a straight cash deal.
We’re glad to hear that Newcastle are annoyed at the Liverpool approach, and not too impressed with the players offered, and we will assume that means Milner will be going nowhere this summer.
We certainly hope that’s the case, although we think Jack Hobbs is a future good player in the making.
