We have been linked with 6’7″ Serbian striker Nikola Zigic as a part exchange deal with the Valencia player for our very own Jose Enrique.
Nikola Zigic – would be happy to join Newcastle United
The Serbian international has been linked with a move to England and the player’s agent, Milan Calasan, says his player would welcome a move to St James’ Park, as he told Sky Sports yesterday:
“Yes Nikola would be interested in a move to Newcastle as he has always wanted to play in England,”
“There are many clubs interested in Nikola including some from Italy, but we are waiting to see what Valencia want to do.”
“We do not know if Valencia want to keep him or sell him.”
There’s no mention of any transfer fee for the player, but Newcastle may look at bringing him into the club on a straight transfer.
But the question we have about the giant striker is whether he’s good enough for Newcastle?
He has been voted Serbia’s Player of the Year three times in 2003, 2006 and 2006.
We think Kevin will almost certainly bring in an additional striker during the summer to augment our squad, but Nikola has struggled in Spain, and the Premier League is much tougher.
He seemed to play well while at Red Star Belgrade from 2003- 2006, and in 110 games he scored a phenomenal 71 goals.
The Serbian has played for his country 29 times and scored 11 goals, and has played 14 times for Valencia since moving there from Racing Santandar last summer with just one goal.
But we have doubts that he would be a decent buy for Newcastle, in all honesty.
It’s likely that Valencia will play a friendly with Newcastle United at St. James’ Park in early August, so fans may get a look at the player then.
