Serbia’s Nikola Zigic Wants To Join Newcastle

We have been linked with 6’7″ Serbian striker Nikola Zigic as a part exchange deal with the Valencia player for our very own Jose Enrique.

Nikola Zigic – would be happy to join Newcastle United

The Serbian international has been linked with a move to England and the player’s agent, Milan Calasan, says his player would welcome a move to St James’ Park, as he told Sky Sports yesterday:

“Yes Nikola would be interested in a move to Newcastle as he has always wanted to play in England,”

“There are many clubs interested in Nikola including some from Italy, but we are waiting to see what Valencia want to do.”

“We do not know if Valencia want to keep him or sell him.”

There’s no mention of any transfer fee for the player, but Newcastle may look at bringing him into the club on a straight transfer.
But the question we have about the giant striker is whether he’s good enough for Newcastle?

He has been voted Serbia’s Player of the Year three times in 2003, 2006 and 2006.

We think Kevin will almost certainly bring in an additional striker during the summer to augment our squad, but Nikola has struggled in Spain, and the Premier League is much tougher.

He seemed to play well while at Red Star Belgrade from 2003- 2006, and in 110 games he scored a phenomenal 71 goals.

The Serbian has played for his country 29 times and scored 11 goals, and has played 14 times for Valencia since moving there from Racing Santandar last summer with just one goal.

But we have doubts that he would be a decent buy for Newcastle, in all honesty.

It’s likely that Valencia will play a friendly with Newcastle United at St. James’ Park in early August, so fans may get a look at the player then.

Comments welcome.

I agree, Jose is our only left back and I think he did well in his first season in England so I wouldn’t want him to go.

” zigic wud not be half bad back up 4 viduka! ” – are you people kidding me ?? if your gonna talk at least make sure you know what your talking about. At this moment in time Zigic is much better then Viduka.

Toon King, I agree i would let Vid go and take the BIG MAN. I think he is made for the Prem. Get him 2 quality midfielders,2 quality defenders get rid of somemore deadwood,Smith,Duff and Ameobi, replace them with young uns and let the good times roll

We need a 6’7″ striker far more than we need Enrique. Ideal world we’d keep both but I know what I’d prefer right now.

Go get him now… but not at the expense of Enrique – he’ll show his worth next season.

The little i have seen Zigic he would fit in perfectly with Owen / Martins and would be a much cheaper option (both transfer fee and wages) than Crouch – and when he scores he won’t do that stupid robot dance – gotta be a plus in my opinion

much better than Viduka?….Viduka has a far better goal scoring record in PL than Zigic in Spain…Viduka has better skill on holding the ball

plus there is what Redknapp said

“He was the tallest bloke on the pitch by a yard, but never won a single header all night,” said Redknapp.

“They were asking £5 million for him. Afterwards, his agent came up to me and said ‘I don’t think five million will buy him.`

“I replied ‘I know, I’m one of them.'”

and I totally agree with him

Toonking: had you really watch him played before?

Viduka has EPL experience, Zigic dosent.
I think he would be worth a gamble but for cash, not a swap for Enrique.
However, if a fee of around 5mil is being touted, then I think for a few million more, Crouch would be a much better option.

There were a couple of other players mentioned – Albelda and Albiol I think – would they not be better option for a swap deal?

you say he struggled in spain, thats not entirely true, he was superb for racing santander, thats what got him the move to Valencia where they havent given him much of a chance. He’s a giant and has giant shoulders to go with it, unlike gangly crouch

would certainly be good cover for Viduka and may break into the first team

With respect Marat18 – I dont think we don’t stand a chance of getting the better options this season – we need something to offer those kind of players, not just a FA cup replay against Milwall on a cold Tuesday night…

A couple of years though, you never know

Its just a shame he’s got a girls name!

I’ve been saying we should get this lad for ages. He’s underused at Valencia, so I can’t see why they wouldn’t sell him. He’d be perfect to replace Viduka in the 4-3-1-2 we’ve been using.

I really don’t think we’d have to part with Enrique to get him either. Enrique needs a couple more years in the prem, and I hope he remains Keegan’s first choice at left back because I think he’ll become one of the best in that position if he carries on going the way he is.

Buy Zigic, keep Enrique. Both are unpolished premier league gems in the making.

    absolutly no!!!

we cannot loose enrique he is our only left back, and given our club seems better at getting rid of players rather than signs him therefore i would guess we will not be able to bring anyone in…

typical of the current regime that if this deal happens it would see a player come in but also a player leave…. disgusting if it happens

zigic maybe good but we need a left back more

He is the first decent left back we have had in 15 yrs.Babayaro,Warren b etc etc all prone to dodgy defending.
Don`t let him go for gods sake

If we just buy Zigic it might be a good deal.

If its around the 5m mark i thiknk that would be GREAT.

HALF the price of Crouch, and he looks much stronger so i reckon that would be a GREAT deal.

We’ll leave Gomis till next year.

If we can get a Big Striker that cheap, maybe that’ll free up enough money to buy some more or better players elsewhere.

    e.g. a Playmaker?

Whats this with 6 feet 7 strikers. Are we searching for them now?

Or was it a typo in the scouting briefing recently sent out from the London office.

Was it meant to say 7 strikers 6 feet tall, hopefully not 7 strikers with 6 feet.

Personally I like strikers to be fast, strong, good movement and not look like a lampost accidently left on the pitch.

I dont really think KK was totally convinced by Enrique, The way he talked about him last season was like he begrudgingly played him as he had no other left backs.

Although to swap him for Zigic would drive me mad.

Valencia today comfirmed that Silva is leaving along with Villa
    (Who we would never get)

And as we need a left winger with Duff leaving and Zog maybe closely following Silva would be the best option for a swap deal.

That you tube goal is a peach tho! but how often does he do that?! Would prefer Carrol in all honisty and definatly KEEP Enrique. Don’t get Shity from Reading. What u guys on! ps. mind my Serbian

just seen the you tube link so lets get him but just a cash transfer. We need to build our squad no’s to improve it. He’s obviously not like most foreigners as he could of just went down on that second challenge even though he was surrounded by an entire defence.
    Go get him.

ToonKing you are probably right, but look how long it took for Jose to fit in. Half the season could be gone if we have to have a repeat scenario. We have to keep the players who are bedded in and playing well, otherwise what is point .
