Alexis Attracting Newcastle United

News today in the Sunday Sun that Newcastle are interested in Valencia’s 22-year-old center-back Alexis.

alexis-valencia.jpg

Alexis – Valencia’s 22 year old defender

The Malaga-born youngster, who will turn 23 in early August, joined his home town team in 2001, and ended up playing 50 times for them, before he moved to Getafe in 2006.

He stayed at Getafe, which is just outside Madrid, just one season and played 24 times for them, before he moved to the coastal town of Valencia last year.

Valencia were even able to beat off competition from Real Madrid for the youngster, who signed a lucrative six year deal with the club.

The 6’0″ tall defender played just 10 times for Valencia last season, but the youngster helped Valencia win the 2008 Copa del Rey, scoring their second goal in the 3-1 win over his former club Getafe, in the final.

Last season Valencia had the best defense in the Spanish First Division, conceding only 33 goals in 38 games.

He could well be a good capture for Newcastle, but we have no idea how much he would cost.

What do you think?

    Never heard of him.

Valencia had a shocking defensive record this season gone. I saw them get spanked a couple of times.

Perhaps it was the season before when they had a good defence. They have been awful this year and are going to have to sell all of their top players because they didn’t qualify for Europe.

    Ed,
like Andy said you are wrong with this one. The number of goals that Valencie condeded is not 33 but as nearly twice more – 62. Right now I’m in Valencia and I saw them get spanked a few times. This year was the worst season for this club in long time – just like we.

Does anyone fancy maiming some journos Starting with Greaves, Dunn and Dennis, El Tel must be spared as he is still a god and should still be the England boss

Everytime the European Championship comes around i think of Euro 96

Al and Gazza battering the Scotch, 4-1 against Holland, Seaman saving that penalty against Spain, Southgates ugly gurning mug ruining our dreams

The FA should be shot for disposing of Venables with him we would have won the 98 world cup.

Very promising because we are normally crap in the group stages and we could and probably should have won it closer to 5-0.

I think he is player number 250 who is linked with the Toon in 3 weeks time.

I don’t mind anymore who we are linked with, cause I don’t know how much truth these stories contain.

I just hope that the club makes the right moves, but I’m a bit worried.

However i still dont feel confident with Ricardo is goal and Nuno Gomes is crap even though he was ok last night.

I’d swap Ricardo for Patricio (because Quim is injured) and Nuno Gomes with Almeida.

I couldnt understand the decision to start Ferriera at Left back, When Veloso was on the bench

I would have started with Quaresma instead of Simao

Nah, Simao is the ultimate team playing winger.

If i had had to drop a winger for Portugal out of Simao or Ronaldo it would be Ronaldo.

    Veloso doesnt have enough experience.

I agree about Nuno Gomes, That could be youre downfall against better sides as the alternatives up front arent great neither Almeida and Postiga are good enough to hurt defences like Italy, Germany, France ETC.

Ricardo aint a great keeper but i dont know enough about the others in your squad to say whos better

I think if portugal had a world class striker theyd be one of the best teams in the world, theyve got an amazing midfield with ronaldo, simao, nani, deco, moutinho, veloso , quaresma etc, and a very solid defence , just nuno gomes and their other strikers let them down a abit, if they had someone like torres or toni up front theyd be consistently in semis or finals of every major tournament in my opinion

Migue had personal issues this season, been partying to much and had a loss of form, he seems a bit fatter too. If he was on form and fit id have him at LB over Ferreira.

alexis is a very good defender better than taylor and has potential to far exceed faye’s ability too

    would be a tremendous signing.

i think we should give valencia 6m + enrique for alexis and zigic or possibly 14m + enrique for alexis, zigic and joaquin

    http://fotbollskanalen.se/1.492411/2008/06/08/newcastle_bjuder_50_miljoner_for_larsson

Acording to swdish television (it´s there football page) Newcastle have given birmingham a bid of 4M pund for Sebastian Larsson. They have asked both Larsson and his agent about it, and it´s true… Sounds thou that birmingham wants to wait until after the euros, but Newcastle want´s it to be done before, and it also says that his agent have meet with keegan and everything.

So the club does realy try to buy players before the euros…

What would you guys think of him? I for one think he def would improve our midfield, although he might not be a true superstar alright… But then my view might be different, would love a swede to come to my newcastle thou!

This is not about Alexis, dont know , never seen him play.
Just read an article which I find disturbing.
Apparently the Evening Chronicle reports KK
is out of the loop concerning any transfers and that all transfer business will be conducted by
    Dennis Wise and Vetere.
Now before anyone starts to educate me on the working roles within football clubs, as to who does what, let me ask a question, does Fergie,Wenger, Ramos,Benitez, decide who they want as players, or is it left to the “directors of football”(Dennis Wise)
I Wrote a comment on this subject previously and was ridiculed (did`nt know what I was talking about etc.)
Believe me if this report IS TRUE its a recipe for disaster, KK will be reduced to a cheerleading role , then out the door.
There are also rumors that “key aids” ? to Ashley want KK out and replaced by Dick Advocaat.
I hope its all rumor, but sense that a certain amount of turmoil within the club still exists.
The recent meeting in London was I believe,
about this very problem, I`m not sure Ashley got it right, a strong manager who can make major decisions in regard to building the future of the club is the need at this time, not management by a committee in conflict .

forget this blog as again, who says we are after him and to be honest he looks crap anyway. i agree with chuck……..things are not right at newcastle united. its a club in worse turmoil than it ever was before ashley took over. forget this crap about we are doing all our business behind closed doors crap – we aint doing any buying business at all. we are selling emre without a replacement at a time when barton is out of the picture leaving us with a 34 year old butt and a slow as f**k geremi. Speaking of barton (our most mental but also best holding midfielder), did you lot read morts comments on him??
they are going to shaft barton cos they know his back is against the wall due his f**k ups. they are going to rework his contract to offer him less money – mort virtually said it just like that today. they are going to do it cos they know they can cos barton is in a jam. otherwise they will sack him but retain the rights to him like chelski and Mutu as they would be sacking him for breach of contract. This is blatant exploitation of bartons situation and does not look good in my eyes or the other players (now and potential) eyes or keegans too. what a caring club we are turning into. Now they are looking at offloading given to Arsenal too and maybe milner to the highest bidder. then you look at duff, who seems destined to be leaving too.
Zogs we just dont know whats going on and we still need to sort out owen, martins, taylor and harpers contracts. who have we bought? no-one. not a single soul since the middle of last year!! look at how many have gone and are either going or may be going. We were one of only five teams that made a profit in this transitional year… that was with all the extra players and massive debt that we had at the time. now no debt and a much smaller squad.
Now all you eternal opitimists dont jump on me back ok. i am an optimistic person too in life generally. Some things can not be ignored though lads. normally, if it looks like shit, smells like shit and tastes like shit……….it is shit. This is definatley shit lads.

    @ Craig Chisholm

I unfortunatley have the same fears and too have expressed this in some of my other blogs.

I remember when KK was here first time as manager, one of his strengths was in convincing players to come to Newcastle. I’m sure everyone remembers the Rob Lee story.
If KK is now out of the loop regarding transfers, i too fear for the duration of KK’s period in charge, we all know he is his own man.

I’m not saying that Wise and co will be doing a worse job than KK could do, that proof will be in the pudding come the start of the season and perhaps seasons to come. The question is whether KK came accept his diminished responsibilities?

As for Larsson, great move the lad really impressed me last season and inparticular at St Andrews against us, before he was injured. Wenger rarely gets it wrong at youth level, even his rejects are quality…

ed…you deleting my posts mate?? half dont come up..i will try again with this one….
OK this particular blog is a waste of time as there is no evidence and the bloke looks shite anyway. i am more interested in chucks post as i for one agree with him about 1 billion % in agreement on things at the minute. Look lads, things just are not right at newcastle united…its in worse turmoil than it ever was under shepperd (honest before you all start lads, hear me out). we have turned into a selling club that is driven by profit and not performance on the pitch. the only thing that matters to our board is money. And i do not believe that we were a pack of cards about to fold like mort said, if that were the case how come in that year we were one of only five prem clubs that turned a profit?? that was with a larger squad of much higher player wages(dyer, bowyer, parker nobby that donkey on the left, boumsong etcetc, the list goes on forever) plus servicing 70 million – 100 million of debt and we still turned in that profit. Now look at us, we have bought no -one in ages – middle of last year was the last time. We have no -debt to service, bigger tv rights, more expensive season tickets, and alot less players to pay. Now, moving onto the players….we are dumping emre at a time when have not signed anyone even though turan is openly saying come and sign me, this also at a time when we have barton banged up… this leads me onto the next bit. Because barton is well knackered in jail we are in the process of reworking is contract to offer him half the wages he is on now. we are trying to nail him on a 27500 a week deal….just cos we can. mort knows that if he sacks barton he will retain rights to him if he signs for anyone else during his remaining contract cos he would be getting sacked for breach of contract -aka mutu. But mort knows that barton as nuts as the bloke is, is a bright light in our dimming mid field so instead he is choosing to extort him cos what else can barton do, he knows he has got him over a barrel and mort fully intends to stick it to him. The simple fact that mort is just not sacking him – period- proves that this is all to do with money and nothing to do with morals. cheslki just dumped mutu on the spot and he was twice the price barton cost us. So emre is gone, barton is knackered cos even if he stays he wont give a toss about trying hard will he, milner is going to be going into a bid war between liverpool and everton along with villa thrown in for good measure… and i am sure we will sell too. Duff looks finished and he never got started really eh. We dont know what is happening with zogs – our best player probably. We are looking to sell given to arsenal for 4 million. we have not sorted out contracts for owen, martins, harper and taylor – all of them top draw and key players. We have not seen a quote from keegan for ages and ages…. dont tell me he is on holidays lads cos that is crap. so is ferguson and half the other managers and they release comments very often. so all of you enternal optimists, dont jump down me throat lads, i am also an optimistic person by nature. some things can not be ignored though. if it looks like shite, smells like shite and tastes like shite… it normally is shite…………what we see now does look SHITE.

Ashley seems a real tight arse. Just read on SSN about Barton and it is nothing short of disgusting. Seems Ashley has seen an oppertunity to take advantage of the situation. I really hope Given does not go and the stalling on contract talks with Owen, Taylor really does show how greedy Ashley is. Im afraid my patience is wearing thin with NUFC not with the players or fans or anything like that but the boys at the top total greed. I hope he sells the club before he totally cripples NUFC i think we have seen the last of the big signings ie the Owens and Shearers of this world. He never seems to put in bids that match the player we are after ALWAYS a few million down, does Ashley really want to spend money at Newcastle….i think not just watched Modric playing and we have missed out big time all because of a tight man who has no passion in his own club.

    @ Craig Chisholm

I do agree with some of your points Craig, however i dont think now is the right time to judge the set-up, at least give our team until the first game of the season.

I try to put a positive spin on the situation:

1, If Ashley wanted to sell then why strip it of its assets?

2, Why pay top money for Wise and co to scout for players if we’re not going to sign quality. Wise would never have left managment to sign has beens.

3, Why pay Mort top bucks to bring himself away from his solicitors firm to stablise us.

4, Why bring back KK, who would not still be here if we were a selling club!
    and finally

5, Why bid for Modric 18m and it looks as if we have bid at least 9m for Arda if we have no ambition?

Cheers up Craig, at least until the first day of the season.
    Keep the faith…..
