Newcastle After Spurs’ Anthony Gardner – Hope Not

The News Of The World (NOTW) are reporting topday that Newcastle United are ready to make a surprise move for Tottenham Hotspur defender Anthony Gardner.

Anthony Gardner – surely Newcastle are not interested

We’ll just have to hope that this report is as accurate as the usual NOTW reports, and that it has no truth in it whatsover. 😀

We cannot imagine how a player of Gardner’s ability can help our squad, the way we are positioned right now.

Gardner, who stands 6’5″ tall and was born in Stafford, joined Spurs from Port Vale in 2000, and made 114 appearances for the North London club.

He was sent out on loan to Everton in January, but didn’t play a single game for the Everton club during that time, and that should tell us something.

He played once for the England Under-21 side in 2001, and in 2004 made his single surprise substitute appearance for the full England side against Sweden.

Gardner, who turns 28 in September, has been pushed down the White Hart Lane pecking order in defense, after the arrival of Middlebrough’s Jonathan Woodgate in January.

It also seems like new Spanish manager Juande Ramos wants to bring in another central defender, before the summer is out, and the London club have already been linked with a move for Manchester City captain Richard Dunne.

The only positive thing we hear is that Newcastle’s new coach, Chris Hughton, who arrived from Tottenham earlier this year, and has done a really good job at Newcastle, has recommended Gardner to Kevin Keegan.

But we just cannot see how this would be a good buy for the club.

Comments welcome.

come on now this is getting beyond a joke now.

If after getting rid of Fat Freddy, Ashley comes in and does what he so far seems like doing, i’m seriously flying up to Newcastle and kicking his fat arse.

Signing him would be a joke he is not the calibre of player we want at the club.

The clock is ticking Mr Ashley..if it keeps on going the way it is going you will be needing a police escort to and from the ground.

Gardner has been linked to us a few times, can’t see it though.

The breaking Shay Given to Arsenal situation though is more likely, see at the bottom of here:

Gardner would not even be a good squad player.

My concern is that we appear to be linked to more outgoings than incomings at he moment, coupled with the ‘speculation’ on KK and Advocaat. We have a small squad curently and need to be strenghthening – my fear is all the quality will be gone by the time we realise this.

How about a move for Moutinho or the young Swiss forward Derdiyok. Hopefully the performance by Rozenhal will force his deal through. Fully behind sacking the thug Barton.

Some many points so little time!!

Not Gardner, oh no. Simply not good enough. Could have been once. If this is really Hughton’s idea then he can go back to Spurs.

We wont have hope in hell of getting Moutinho after this Euro cup. Same goes for Arshavin and Gomez.

What worries me is we could likely pick up Turan if he doesn’t get a game. But, given that he wasn’t good enough to get into the midfield that Turkey put out yesterday I question that logic. Kazim Richards seems to be the way to go.

He looked calm under pressure, decent with the ball and a real threat on odd occasion.

If the Spuds were looking to replace Gardner with Dunne then says it all as far as I am concerned. Ffs are we an ambitious club or not.
Roz had a good game yesterday, bring him back. You know what I am half expecting to see the Toon management being issued with blind dogs soon.

Woke up to this news here in the states. Gardner?!! I must not be awake yet!! Oh, I see. NOTW stirring it up again.
I realize the “window” hasn’t officially opened yet but this is getting depressing.
And Given to Arsenal for how much? double that and we’ll talk.

faustino – He doesn’t play for one game and you don’t want him. Do you have any idea what you’re talking about mate? Maybe you should follow rugby instead.

id much rather keep rozenhal. this signing would be a step back for sure. there are good days on the transfer speculation front and cloudy days like today when the news is given is off to the arse clowns and were intrested in reyes and gardner and that kk is to be replaced by da.. but i take speculation too seriously at times and should know by now that the papers are wrong more often than not.

    Shut it Hamas you geekboy.

Asides from pointing out the glaring – that it was a question I raised not a statement, the fact at no point did I say I wouldn’t have him and the point Kazim looked really good last night, mainly because he ACTUALLY got played and kicked a ball a few times, let’s just wait and see if Arda plays at all this tournament ey?
