Newcastle have maintained their interest in Aiden McGeady of Celtic, who was presented with the PFA Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards for last season in the SPL.
Aiden McGeady – 22 year-old Celtic winger
There will be other clubs fighting Newcastle for the player, with multiple reports that Sunderland manager Roy Keane is also very interested in the Ireland youngster.
Celtic do not want to sell, but they are said to be short of cash right now, and would probably consider an offer of around £10M for the 22-year-old Ireland left winger.
But that seems an awful lot of money for a player who is completely unproven in the English Premier League.
We think Newcastle have better and cheaper targets they will pursue first, before they consider making any bid for McGeady.
However, it does appear that McGeady is interested in trying his luck in the Premier league as he said recently:
“I would like to have a crack at the Premier League when the time is right.”
That time could well be next season, and Keegan is said to remain keen on the youngster, who has been watched several times by Newcastle this year.
Aiden can play in a variety of attacking positions, and usually plays as an attacking midfielder/winger for Celtic, on the left hand side.
He does have blistering pace and quick feet, so it would appear the youngster would fit nicely into a Kevin Keegan attacking side.
Glasgow born McGeady has played 112 times for Celtic, and scored 21 goals. He has represented Ireland on 18 occasions with no goals.
He stands 5’10†tall and turned 22 last April.
