Newcastle Maintain Interest in Celtic’s McGeady

Newcastle have maintained their interest in Aiden McGeady of Celtic, who was presented with the PFA Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards for last season in the SPL.

Aiden McGeady – 22 year-old Celtic winger

There will be other clubs fighting Newcastle for the player, with multiple reports that Sunderland manager Roy Keane is also very interested in the Ireland youngster.

Celtic do not want to sell, but they are said to be short of cash right now, and would probably consider an offer of around £10M for the 22-year-old Ireland left winger.

But that seems an awful lot of money for a player who is completely unproven in the English Premier League.

We think Newcastle have better and cheaper targets they will pursue first, before they consider making any bid for McGeady.

However, it does appear that McGeady is interested in trying his luck in the Premier league as he said recently:

“I would like to have a crack at the Premier League when the time is right.”

That time could well be next season, and Keegan is said to remain keen on the youngster, who has been watched several times by Newcastle this year.

Aiden can play in a variety of attacking positions, and usually plays as an attacking midfielder/winger for Celtic, on the left hand side.

He does have blistering pace and quick feet, so it would appear the youngster would fit nicely into a Kevin Keegan attacking side.

Glasgow born McGeady has played 112 times for Celtic, and scored 21 goals. He has represented Ireland on 18 occasions with no goals.

He stands 5’10” tall and turned 22 last April.

If we sell Milner and get Mcgeady for same price, good deal I would say.

so because he said one sentence about the premier league we are apparently after him? surely that one sentence doesnt warrant an article. bored of transfer speculation now like.

McGaedy is very good. He was amazing in the CL and would add some needed flair to our play. Go for him.

    Here here Broon Ale.

Ed, you do a great job, but articles like this are completely unnecessary (even if it’s true we have an interest in McGeady, which we really don’t know if we do or not).

It’s bad enough having to put up with lazy journalists linking us with a hundred or so players every summer, but to have to read about it here as well is disappointing.

On a separate note, we did OFFICIALLY bid £10 million for Gomis at the weekend. It is in The Times today and was reported by his club yesterday.

The bid hasn’t been accepted or rejected as of yet.

quality quality quality, looks a good player, everytime ive seen him play they have had 2 or 3 players marking him so that it frees up space for other players. not many players have newcastle had that for, well since shearer

    Rumour, speculation, blah, blah, blah.

I’d love this story to be true but I’ve said it before. I think the board will keep their cards very close to their chest and I reckon on the opening day of the window we’ll have 2-3 players, all of whom will be a surprise.

Wee McGeady is very good, very impressed with him this season. The difference between this season and the season beforehand is unreal. Completely different. 2 Seasons ago he’d run with the ball, over run it for the majority of the team, wouldn’t look up, wouldn’t really look for space or try and pass it. I don’t know how many of ye watch the likes of Celtic but em, if you don’t I can’t actually begin to explain the massive difference there’s been in just one season, how much he’s improved. You’d have to see it to believe it. Over the summer, Over the summer he just worked his arse off and got a million times better and the thing is that there’s still a lot of room for improvement. But in one summer he was transformed into Scottish player of the year, he is a much better player, I didn’t really rate him 2 seasons ago. I rate him now though, as one of the best wingers in the well, in the prem and SL combined. He’s a work horse and now he looks up, sets up God only knows how many goals, scores a good few himself, is very fast, you don’t realize just how electric he is, how fast till you see him playing in front of you, not just on tv.
He’s very tricky, almost impossible to stop without fouling him because he’s furious pace and amazing skill. He’s gotten really, really good, so much so that he was getting double marked for most of their season and in the CL as well, against Barca, European giants, they felt it necessary to have two players on him. If a team has a weakness, he’ll find it.

He’d be worth the every penny of the 10 mill all right, we all ready let wee done go which would have been a miracle worker for our defense, we can’t let the same happen here. We should at least bid for the wee fella.

One problem though is that if we’re up against Sunderland to get him, we’ve won major disadvantage, they’ve Keane and like there aren’t many young Irish players who’d pass up a chance to work with him.

But still a fantastic prospect. Can’t speak highly enough of him.

From the little I have seen, and the youtube clips of him he looks realy good. But for that cind of money I would rather have Turan. This fella is only 22 years old so if he is as good as he have looked when I have watched him, he could truly be a great player in a cuple of years…

Decent player who would definately add flair to the team. IMO, Turan, McGeady, larrson and Gomis/Crouch (i like Crouch alot, he can do the job in the PL) would be welcome addition to the squad. Just about what we need in the middle and upfront.

Ed, i think you are doing a great job with these articles. Keep them coming. Its a nufcBLOG anyway, so like any other blogs, whenever you feel like blogging, go ahead. Im sure there are people who appreciates these more than they dont.

sas, if these articles are such a bore to you, you really don’t have to read them, much less comment on them. Furthermore, we have been linked with McGeady since Keegan arrived.

Lay off Ed, he provides a valuable service. If you don’t value it, go elsewhere.

i support thu toon and celtic and in keegans shoes i would probs pay 15 million for mcgeady he really is that good. Although i admit celtiv were hammered in the champ leugue by barcelona mcgeady must of skinned puyol at least 5 times and he can actually cross the ball aswel which is a bit of a bonus id b sad if he left celtic but estatic if he came to thu toon so ashley put ur money were ur mouth is.

i am a celtic season ticket holder and have been for years. No offense is ment to be cause by this but why would he want to join newcastle and even less likely sunderland. Celtic =
    Bigger Crowds
    The team he supports
    Champions League
    Better Fans .
This isnt meant to be a dig at newcastle as i like newcastle and if i had to pick a second team it would probably be newcastle and your fans are decent but i just don’t see a reason why he would leave a bigger club just to join a club in the premiership. He doesn’t come across as the type of player to be money motivated and everytime i have spoke to him , he really is celtic through and through.
Hail Hail and good luck to Newcastle For Next Season

( jack have you ever seen mcgeady play his crossing is awful , probably the kids weakest point)
And 51 do i sense a bit of anti irish sentiment. Shay Given, Damien Duff, Stephen Carr
Ireland has moved on from anti british sentiment surely people don’t still hold it in England
