Newcastle United have been given permission to talk to Plymouth Argyle’s new Wayne Rooney, 15 year old Aaron Spear.
15 year-old Aaron Spear – are Arsenal the other club interested?
There were reports earlier in the week that Newcastle should be able to wrap up the signing of the much sought after Plymouth Argyle youngster this week.
But since then, there is news that another Premiership club have entered the fray. And we think that club could be Arsenal.
A youth policy at the Tyneside club has seen Newcastle bring in Ben Tozer from Swindon, and Tamas Kadar from Zalaegerszegi TE in Hungary, amongst others in January, and the club is still in the driving seat for 15-year-old striker Aaron Spear.
Newcastle’s Football Director Dennis Wise has already terms with the Championship club for Spear, but the Newcastle drive for the player may be complicated by another Premier League club, believed to be Arsenal, approaching Plymouth Argyle with a request to talk to the youngster.
And because of the London club’s deserved reputation for bringing on young players, securing Aaron’s signature is no longer a foregone conclusion for the Magpies.
Plymouth Argyle chief executive Michael Dunford said yesterday:
“Newcastle, and one other Premier League club have expressed an interest in Aaron Spear,â€â€œHe has been given permission to speak to them.”
“We would like to keep him but the lad appears adamant that he wants to talk to the Premier League clubs.”
“We are waiting to hear from Newcastle whether they have decided to sign him.â€
Make no mistake about it, if Newcastle can sign the youngster, it will be a huge coup for the club, and give our recruitment drive a much needed boost.
Let’s keep out fingers crossed, and we should know within a few days who the lad chooses.
Comments welcome.

Comment #3Why would he want to go to Arsenal, can he speak French or Spanish? I’m sure he can remember what happened to Pennant, Bentley and the likes, he’d have a better chance with us…..

Comment #5One for the future as we say. Hope he does choose us instead of Arse and All. Trouble is Wenger Burger is quite a magnet for younger players. Glad KK has final say on transfers because the available squad numbers show us where we may recruit: 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 plus 12 and onwards. That is a defence and midfielder (if traditional numbering has anything to do with it these days). Can KK reshuffle squad numbers? E.g., give Beye number 2, and Enrique number 3 etc? Not sure about the rules on numbering anymore.

Comment #6This just sums up our tranfer situation at the moment, we put a bid in for players of quality and then other clubs snatch them up. I’m worried about the way we conduct our business regarding transfers as I suspect we are not advertising the benefits of joining such a great club enough.

Enrique is already no. 3. I don’t think squad numbers are an indication to where somebody plays anymore. Look at chelsea boulharouz and then Sidwell were given the number 9 shirt and they’re certainly not strikers!

Comment #10Another so-called interest of ours was Didier Digard. The smoggies are supposed to be after him now. Why is it Portsmouth, Middlesborough, Spurs, Villa etc play follow the leader with NUFC when in the transfer market we seem to be going nowhere. According to the Mirror, Mirror on the shite house wall Barton refused to see NUFC officials yesterday in the nick. Which one of their reporters got a visiting order to see him then? More press crap! KK is on holiday. Where? Whitley Bay? Back in 2 weeks – we will not be selling Smith in that time then.

Comment #12forget arsenal… look at the last quote from his own club ‘we are waiting to see if newcastle have decided to sign him’, thats all you need to be looking at lads.. again we have the chance and have not made a move yet… now allowing arse into the equation. the deal was only going to be for less than a million, we could have paid it out of the bloody coffee money, but we have not made a move – again.

Comment #14If Newcastle keep announcing to the press about every Tom Dick and Harry that they are interested in, no wonder they keep “missing” their targets.
Has no one at NUFC heard of the word discretion?

Comment #17Why is everyone so certain Arsenal are interested? Its only rumoured that they are the other club, though if they are this signing will probably in danger…

Comment #18We sadly have no one to compare to the coaching talents of Wenger. This is where our academy falls down. Good young players. Poor English technical coaches. I know where most kids would go sadly. it’s great that we are looking at getting youngsters in but let’s get some foreign coaches as well or Simon Clifford from the futebol de salao programme.

Comment #19I think some of you are simply being negative for the sake of being negative. How do you know that Arsenal are the other club interested? and even if they are, the Cheif Executive of Plymouth has clearly stated that they are waiting to confirm wether Newcastle want to sign him. Any money he’ll be ours by the end of the week.
Wenger can’t sign ’em all, you have to remember that.

Comment #20Wasn’t Tozer at Plymouth before Swindon?
That should be in our favour if BT gives the kid a heads–up on the Toon.
As you say, its not going to make or break our summer, but at least we’re looking at the right sort.
Coaches? well we were after Peter Taylor so they’re obviously aware of that.

Comment #22ericles you are a cock! what makes you think other teams are just following newcastles lead and signing there players?are you 12? only chelsea, liverpool ans spurs have made any signings and we wont be competing with those teams anyway. all this crap about teams just watching who we go for and then pinching them is doing my head in.kk will have his targets and i am sure out of the 100 we have been linked with the papers have guessed one right. we dont need to get all arsey when one of the players joins another team as we probably werent in for them anyway.
I have never seen this tunisian kid play and i wont ask tom toon as i dont think you can judge a player on youtube.
