Newcastle Interested In 19 Year-Old Tunisian Winger

June 11th, 2008 · 83 Comments

Setanta Sports is reporting today that Tunisian star Armine Chermiti has caught the interest of Newcastle United scouts.

amine-chermiti.jpg

Armine Chermiti - 19 year-old Tunisia forward

The 19 year-old forward scored 12 goals for Etoile du Sahel in the African Champions League last season, and it is being reported that his club displays have duly impressed Newcastle United.

Chermiti played well for Tunisia in the African Cup of Nations earlier this year, and it known that Kevin Keegan has been very impressed with both the professionalism and skillful play of his current African quartet, Beye, Faye, Geremi and Martins, who are all in the first team under Kevin.

Hertha Berlin are also said to be interested in the forward and there could therefore be a battle for his signature.

In his first full season with Etoile du Sahel, he scored 12 goals, and broke into the Tunisian national team, scoring on his international debut.

He is reported to be very raw, but his talents are clearly visible. Armine is said to have electric pace and a good touch, although he isn’t an out-and-out striker.

The youngster is said to have good awareness and a great attitude, but he’s not the biggest or strongest of players at 5′9″, and that may be a handicap in the English Premier league.

We’ll just have to see if anything comes of this, but Armine is in line with youngsters owner Mike Ashley wants to recruit for the future at Newcastle.

Comments welcome.

Hahaha, i thaught this article would please you Tom-Toon! :)

  • 4 James // Jun 11, 2008 at 11:56

Tom Toon has been raving about this guy for 6 months. Looks like KK has been listenin… :-)

And there was us all telling Tom_Toon to shut up cause a player like this wouldn’t be on the club’s radar…WE WERE WRONG TOM

You are now an official scout for the club :-)

  • 5 broon ale // Jun 11, 2008 at 11:56

is this a wind up.? he is just another name to add to the now endless list of transfer targets!!

  • 6 liamtoonbirchy // Jun 11, 2008 at 11:57

tom toon says he is good, ive only chllenged him on bosingwa being better than ramos because he isnt lol. so yeah sign him up barcelona are said to be intrested too.

Boro have bid for digard, we are linked but we havent bid, perfect player for butt to tutor.

elmander is available for 6m, bargain

kompany would be a great signing, and we could challenge marseille for boulahrouz because chelsea wont want him and will be less than 5m which is cheap for how good he is

  • 7 HeronMag // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:03

Tom Toon’s dream is finally coming true haha!

  • 8 Nick Dryden // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:04

Beardo was 5ft 8”. I hate this too small argument.

  • 9 ronaldeano // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:06

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WsYEi_upu4

This is him getting a slap!

It must have been a bad tackle to warrent that!

  • 10 ToonRich // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:06

Good touting Tom ;) they’ve finally shown interested in somone you’ve been raving about for months!

  • 11 Davies // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:07

Broon Ale, what exactly is it that fuels your negativity?

I really don’t remember you ever having put a positive comment up on these posts.

I like the look of this guy. Anyone know how much he’s worth?

    Tom_Toon???

  • 12 SwedeEric // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:07

It´s player nr 200 we are linked with.. But realy hope there is some truth behind this! Realy good prospect!

And to Boularhouz, didn´t he show in chelsea that he isn´t good enought for the EPL?

Elmander for 6M pund sounds a good deal… This season hasn´t been that good to him, but the season before he was truly awsome! In that form he would deff be a great player for us! If I had to buy a swede, I would go for Larsson of the two…

Some people talk about Kompany… Have we been linked with him that I have missed or is it yust you guys who want´s him to come?

  • 13 Davies // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:09

    Quality clip ronaldeano.

  • 14 broon ale // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:11

constant transfer speculation fuels my “negativity”
the list of players is getting insane now like.

    wake me up in august

  • 15 Tom_Toon // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:12

Hes gonna cost £3mil max, closer to £2mil so definitely worth a gamble.

  • 16 Tom4Nufc // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:12

    I think its about 1.5m

  • 17 Tom4Nufc // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:13

Tom_Toon I heard he was available for 1.5m, unless his price has rised in one month? lol

  • 18 Tom_Toon // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:15

    http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/amine%2Bchermiti/video/x3vlv3_compil-amine-chermiti_sport

there a vid of him and if you click my name you’ll see a quick vid of him.

Hes wants to leave Tunisia because the defender cant handle him nd they normally spit on him and just kick him.

  • 19 Tom_Toon // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:16

They will sell in the region of 2.5mil euros to 4 mil euros.

  • 20 Leo // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:20

spit on him? thats wrotten, i remember when i was 12 i played rugby and i was faster than everyone on my team and they resented me for it some little twurp spat peanuts into my face after a game

you would think they would show apreciation but no.

anyway i bet you creamed when you saw this tom toon…

i would take this link with a pinch of salt because i remember someone mentioning edgar davids and the next day they were in the papers this sort of thing happens quite often…

i guess the press read this for tips on who to link the club with

  • 21 Tom_Toon // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:20

    http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/amine%2Bchermiti/video/x5l7yw_chermiti-punk_sport

thats what he did because he got so annoyed with the defenders because they just constantly foul him and abuse his cos they cant handle him.

  • 22 Graeme // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:22

Could even be cheap at twice the price. Could be a great signing with huge potential.

  • 23 broon ale // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:22

tom-toon. he wont sign! sorry buddy

  • 24 Tom_Toon // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:25

I know its very unlikely but this personifies our new buying policy doesnt it.

  • 25 ronaldeano // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:26

@Tom-Toon, they cant handle him, see my clip mate.

If thats the treatment he gets in Tunisia…..! :)

  • 26 broon ale // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:27

    our buying policy?

not sure about that Tom. it could of been fabricated from the media or an agent.

we dont know if all the players we have been linked with are an accurate indication of players we are targeting.

  • 27 Hadrian // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:28

lol , read the target and knew tom_toon would be first on this thread :D

  • 28 Tom_Toon // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:30

I know but i tend to find the players that come out of nowhere like this one did probably have more substance than being linked with prem players or well known foreigners.

  • 29 jon // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:31

looks great! grab him! a cheap van der vaart! lol

  • 30 broon ale // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:33

would rather have seb larrson tom.

i know its each to there own tho buddy so its fine.

even tho someone accused me of being mr negativity earlier i can honestly say its just because it seems newcastle are being very sluggish in the transfer market and this endless list of players gets very annoying.

  • 31 Warwick Hunt // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:35

    @Tom_toon.
Who was that other Tunis Player you used to rave about?

  • 32 Tom_Toon // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:35

I want Larrson too, but he isnt a striker is he!

and £2mil, not going to argue over that. - If there was any truth in it then our club would be idots not to pursue it. What can you get for 2 mil now? and third of an alan smith!?!?!?

  • 33 Tom_Toon // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:36

    Chikhaoui

  • 34 TomPoon // Jun 11, 2008 at 12:37

If we are going to buy a Tunisian, I would rather have Chikoui (cant spell it though)

I’m sure that someone at the Toon reads this blog and I think it probably gets up their noses a bit, as Ed gets more hits. Which is possibly why Chris Mort came onto the blog a few weeks back to push the official site. Tom Toon has done his bit to try and steer them in the right direction and I think a lot of the other bloggers can take some Kudos for efforts made (Including me in all modesty :) ) to highlight worthwhile prospects also to point out the rubbish. All we need now is some actual signings.

  • 53 Ian // Jun 11, 2008 at 13:36

Keegans back, he left a shopping list and nothing much has happened, I dont know about you but I think he will not be a happy man when he gets back in the office.

If it comes off we could end up getting first option on a lot of young spanish talent, or use Real as a feeder club for our reserves.

    Interesting move by Freddy like.

To be honest, Chermiti looks like a right prick. Just watched a video of him writhing in agony for 5 mins get stretchered off then spring up and sprint back on. He reminds me of Ronaldo, but not for his skill. Also that stamping vid, was it done to him or by him?

  • 73 Tom_Toon // Jun 11, 2008 at 16:00

    Greetings Toon fans,

I write for Tunisia World Cup Blog and thought I’d share with you all the articles I’ve written about our young talent. The link below should be helpful to those who want to learn more about Amine Chermiti. Amine, not Armine like the English press reports. Not a big deal though ;) Hertha Berlin is haggling over the transfer price. Porto and even Juventus were looking at this kid. His value skyrocketed at the Club World Cup where he had some impressive outings against the likes of Pachuca, Boca Juniors, and Urawa Reds.

Dr. Ed Harrison is a retired IBM Consulting Group Executive who now has time, and lots of it, after 34 years at the American computer company, to write about his lifelong passion - Newcastle United Football Club.

Ed was born and bred in Newcastle Upon Tyne, and watched his first game at St. James’ Park in 1949 as a 4 year-old with his Mother and Father. He was told to look out for number 9 - Jackie Milburn – the great Wor Jackie - and was he fast!

In football terms Ed was a goalkeeper and played for Wharrier Street Primary School and Newcastle Minors (Newcastle Schoolboys Under-11), in 1956 and went on to play for Newcastle Schoolboys and Northumberland Schoolboys (Under-15) in 1959 and an England Schoolboys trial.

He was at Newcastle United for a couple of years from 1960 as an amateur, while still at school, and played with Bobby Moncur and David Craig, amongst others, for the Newcastle United Under-18 side (Newcastle N’s in those days), during the relegation season of 1960-1961.

Ed attended Heaton Technical and Manor Park schools, and then went on to study at both King’s College, London (BSc Electrical Engineering) and Newcastle University (PhD Computer Science). He played for Newcastle Universities and England Universities from 1967 until 1970.

But a short couple of years after Ed joined IBM in 1970, he was shipped over to the USA, with his new wife Madeline, a beautiful local Newcastle lassie.

At IBM Ed was in computer systems and network design for 34 years, and in his last 10 years at the company was persuaded to enter executive management. where he ended up running IBM's Americas' Network Consulting Group for 5 years from the late 1990s, and was instrumental in forming the IBM alliance with Cisco Systems in 1999.

Ed and Madeline live just outside Raleigh in North Carolina. Their twin sons Paul and Neil, and daughter Elaine, are now in their early 30s, live close by, and Neil has carried on the family tradition by becoming an avid Newcastle United supporter.

And one final thing that is so true - you can take the boy out of Newcastle but you can't take Newcastle out of the boy!

    Howay The Lads!!
