News today that Birmingham City, newly relegated to the Championship for the second time in three years, have warned Newcastle United off their Swedish midfielder Sebastian Larsson.
Sebastian Larsson – Birmingham don’t want to sell
As we reported earlier in the week, reports in Scandinavia suggest that Newcastle have already offered Birmingham around £4.2M for the former Arsenal youngster.
Larsson is currently with Sweden at the European Championships, and has been offered a five-year contract by Birmingham.
But despite interest in the 23-year-old, following Birmingham’s relegation from the Premier League, the St Andrew’s board don’t want to sell.
Birmingham Chairman David Gold said yesterday:
“We don’t want to sell Seb, he’s part of our plans for next season and I think he’ll be loyal to the badge,”
But the cat’s out of the bag now about Newcastle’s interest, and Sebastian will be interested in taking a step up, and getting back to the Premier league, and maybe Europe in a year or two.
Larsson has already said he thinks the Premier League is the best in the world, and for one so young he will be keen to get back playing in England’s top league.
We think Newcastle will be a very attractive move for the player, and it will be difficult for the Blues to keep their player happy playing Championship football, for somebody so good.
It doesn’t surprise us at all that Birmingham will not be happy with this, but they are hardly negotiating from a position of strength in the Championship.
We’d just love to see Larsson at Newcastle, just love it, as Kevin would say. 😀
