One of Newcastle’s targets, who we thought looked very good, is now in talks with Middlesbrough, according to Sky Sports.
Didier Digard – are Newcastle sleeping?
Newcastle may miss out on Paris St Germain young midfielder Didier Digard, after reports today that the French 21 year-old has been on Teesside for a medical.
Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate is keen on the youngster and seems to have stolen a march on Newcastle, who have seemed very slow in moving for their targets this summer.
That may be a little hard on the club, because that’s only true if we believe all the transfer reports are accurate, which is unlikely.
But hopefully the plan is not to wait two weeks until Kevin returns from his holidays, because some of our targets will have been lost by then, and speed is of the essence in the transfer market.
It is understood the player underwent a medical yesterday afternoon as manager Southgate looks to make his first signing of the summer.
The fee seems reasonable at around £4M for the highly-rated French midfielder who stands 6ft tall.
He was at Le Havre from 1999 until he moved to PSG last year, where he played 16 times for the Paris club, and put in some very good performances.
Digard had played 72 times for Le Havre with 3 goals.
Didier has played at every level for the French Youth sides, and has so far played 4 times for the French Under-21 side, and turns just 22 next month.
Newcastle – where are you?
