And so it goes on – yet another player we are being linked with this morning.
Matteo Ferrari – Newcastle linked with Roma center-back
According to various reports today, Newcastle United are said to be planning a swoop for Roma defender Matteo Ferrari.
The former Everton defender is available on a free transfer and we already know that Kevin Keegan is ready to strengthen his weak defense, having already dispensed with three center-backs at the club in Diatta, Ramage and Rozehnal.
The 28-year-old is attracting interest from AC Milan and moved to Roma from Parma in 2004, but has played just 72 times for the Rome club.
Matteo was born in Algeria to an Italian father and a Guinean mother, and played 11 times for Italy from 2002-2004.
He was previously at Parma where he played 62 times (3 goals) from 2002 to 2004.
He started his career at Inter-Milan in 1996, but played only 19 times for the Italian giants, and was sent out on loan to Genoa, Lecci, Bari and Parma during his time at the club, before finally moving to Parma in 2002.
He was on loan at Everton from 2005-2006 and played 8 times for the Goodison Park outfit.
We have no idea if we are really after this player, who is 6’0″ tall and turns 29 years old in December, but at least the price is good.
Comments welcome.

Comment #8hmm, interesting player, he’s a fairly decent defender, more of a left-back than center back , would like him here but can’t see him as a permanent first 11 player.

Comment #10We can outbid Everton as they are not rich at all. Also I have to agree, Modric hasn’t impressed me. He’s only been playing in the Croatian league and it’s going to be funny to see him struggle with the Yids.

Comment #17Modric is having a great game right now. Im sure he will make a huge impact with spurs. Quality player, good skills with a good vision and a range of passing.
Good to know we were looking for these qualities despite not being able to sign him.

Comment #19The price is good but it is important to remember that Cacapa was “a good price” last summer but in terms of his wages he wasn’t.
