Newcastle Target Emana Prefers Spain

We may hear this quite a few times over the summer but Toulouse’s Cameroon international midfielder and Newcastle target Achille Emana is set to join Real Betis.

Achille Emana – seems to prefer Spain

The 26-year-old was a target for Newcastle United and several other Premier League teams, but it looks like Emana has opted to try his luck in the La Liga.

He told Sky Sports yesterday:

“I need a new challenge to boost my career. I know there are many contacts.”

“The most interesting recent one was Newcastle United.”

“My club want more money from Betis, around 8M euros, but if the two clubs can agree a price I will be happy.”

“My career has to move forward and Betis are a very good club.”

That doesn’t exactly say that it’s a certainty he’ll move to Betis, although that would now seem his first choice.

Toulouse have valued the player at around £6.5M, and if Newcastle are indeed interested, we would expect the club to move quickly for the 5′11″ midfield star.

He’s played for Toulouse 226 times with 28 goals and has played 11 times for Cameroon.

But we are linked with multiple targets this summer, and we’ll need at least six players to arrive by the end of August.

Oh great. Players leaving with no replacement yet, and potential signings do not even fancy Newcastle.

This one does disappoint me a bit, having seen only him on the odd occassion, he did impress me (have you seen that goal from the half way line?)

Hes a bundle of energy and physical….just whats is needed for todays PL.
With Bartons future now cloudier than ever, we really need up to 3 central midfielders, thats not including wingers.

However i still have faith in our team to make the right choices and his face must not have fit.

I just wonder if most of our targets are indeed at the Euros as we are not making any noises in the transfer market and players like Emana who are not there could easily be snapped up now.

This is driving me crazy. “Hey, lets wait until Janury when all those decent targets have been snapped up by other clubs so we can make a move for Robby Savage and Heskey!”. I know Keegan is on holliday and that the transfer window hasn’t even opened, but still..this is getting frustrating.

“we would expect the club to move quickly ”

Us move quickly…c’mon Ed gimme a break..we can’t even sign our own players never mind other teams : )

And as for needing 6 players…Hmmm I think 10/12 would be more accurate.

If you people don’t chill, there’ll be nobody left to support the team next season. I can see the headlines “Every Newcastle United Supporter Dies Of Unnecessary Heart Attack In Undue Panic As Club Is Slow To Sign Talent!”.

Will you all just settle down. First, the deal isn’t done, as Real Betis haven’t offered enough cash. Second, nowhere in that article does he say that he prefers Spain and La Liga, in fact he says the most interesting contact was from Newcastle. Third, if he goes, it’s really not the end of the world. There are plenty of good and talented midfielders out there and we will sign somebody worth having.

I do like this guy. His halfway line goal was fantastic (better than Beckham’s!) and he reminds me a little of Tino, but if he goes to Real Betis, so be it. At least he won’t be lining up against us at another premier league club.

Agree it is getting frustrating, especially in the midfield, we should offer £18m for Barry and try and scupper the Liverpool deal, his club want £18m for him so we would cause trouble for Liverpool, maybe that is why Liverpool are playing games with us over Milner to keep us away from that deal.

I really do not see a way we can improve in midfield without spending over £13m for each central midfield player. While i would only buy Cisse or Kitson as a striker and save money in that position I feel we need to throw money at the central midfield, that is where we are weakest, we arent scoring enough goals from those positions and the counters arent generated from those positions.

ian- why wud barry come to us?????? why wud he leave a club that hes played for for 10 yrs and loves to go to a weaker team, the reason he will go to liverpool is fro CL football, we have absolutely no chance in hell of getting barry

Geordie Nick-probably but it is worth a go and we should try for other midfielders of similar quality, central midfield is the area that will lift us to 6th or 7th providing we do not lose any of our key players.

For fcuks sake we could offer 30million for Barry and he wouldn’t come here.

The only thing to be thankful for at this moment is that some of the kids on this site aren’t in charge of transfers.

Like spoiled 8 year olds on xmas eve.

Ed-you feel that if we are interested in Emana we should move quickly. Even if we are interested, our recruitment team couldn’t move fast if their asses were on fire.
