Newcastle Maintain Interest in Sebastian Larsson

Not much has changed on the Sebastian Larsson front, where we believe Newcastle have already lodged a bid with Birmingham of around £4.2M, which is 50K Swedish Kroner.

Sebastian Larsson – Birmingham want to keep him

Larsson fits the Ashley blueprint as a promising young player with Premier League experience, and the right-sided midfielder seems an excellent target for the club.

However, this is hardly good news for Birmingham, and the Midlands club has made it clear a move for Larsson is not welcomed.

But when you get relegated you have to admit you will necessarily lose your more ambitious and good players.

Not many good players want to make the big step down to the Championship.

Sources in the West Midlands have said the club would not sell the 23-year-old Swedish star, unless they received an offer well in excess of the £4.2M bid.

How often have we heard that in an effort to get the biggest fee for a player?

Manager Alex McLeish has now said he does not want to lose Larsson, and when asked about the player’s future, given the news about definite interest from Newcastle, he said:

“There’s no change (in Larsson’s status).”

“We’ve made it clear what we feel about Seb and I believe he’s happy working with us.”

“A year in the Championship is not a disaster for any player.”

A year is the absolute minimum Larrson could spend in the Championship, and at 23 years old, that may not look like a good option for the promising Swede.

We think it’s more up to the player than Birmingham, as to what he wants to do, and we think a move to Newcastle would be a good step up for the youngster.

But nothing much will be decided until Sebastian finishes his time with the Sweden National side at the Euro 2008 Championships.

Comments welcome.

Birmingham should not step in the way of a budding international who will need top flight football.

    Thankyou Delusional Ali!

Course it bloody is, you loose sharpness playing against Championship teams. Also consdering realistically a player will have ten years at peak or their abouts it’s a total disaster for anyone with ambition.

As a Swede I would love to see him at Newcastle, plus he´s young and a very good player. If anyone wonders why he hasnt played in the Euros yet its because our manager sucks, he only wants to play older players…

I like him, Good from set pieces and scores a fair few

I dont know what people have seen of Larsson but for the we hate Milner brigade he is slower than Jimmy, Maybe a better crosser but certainly not as fast

Probably too much money for the club to afford him. We might need to sell a few more yet.

Never said that he was slow i said he was slower than Milner which is a common complaint on theis website

I dont need to go on youtube as ive seen him live on a couple of occasions and he is not an out and out winger he is more like beckham and Bentley where he will look for the pass and not to go at the defender

Thats the main reason that Jerome kept on moving onto the right because Larsson isnt an out and out winger, He comes central a bit

Larsson is not that great, we have better players that him already. He’s great at set pieces, but I would rather keep Milner than buying this guy.

Find some central midfielders instead, our engine room can’t be Butt and Geremi one more season. You can have great people up front and at the back but still do poorly if the midfield is crap, so please replace Butt!

Yes i never said he wasnt a good player i said he isnt amazingly fast which is why Milner was beng slated on the other thing

If people expect Ronaldos pace and dribbling ability then they will be let down, But he is a good Bentley style right sided midfielder
