News today that Shola Ameobi’s proposed move to Ipswich Town for £3.5M has fallen through.

Shola Ameobi - turned down Ipswich Town
Apparently Newcastle United had agreed the fee with Ipswich Town to let the 26-year-the old striker move to Portman Road.
But it seems that two things are stopping Ameobi from moving immediately.
One is probably his wage bill, and whether clubs are willing to match the good terms he is getting at Newcastle.
And another is he would probably like to stay with a club in the Premier League.
And if a Premier League club comes in he’ll be more likely to get a good wage package from them. Of course he turned down Stoke City, who will be playing in the Premiership next season.
But Newcastle will want to move Ameobi out fairly quickly, so they get some money for him, and also have a better idea of where they stand on the total wage front.
We think they are clearing fringe players out, so they can then offer Owen, Taylor and Harper the best terms they can muster.
That seems fine, because those three have produced for Newcastle last season, while others moving out generally haven’t.
We think there’ll be increasing pressure on Shola to take a deal, since he’s now turned down good offers from both Stoke City and Ipswich Town, two very good clubs, where he could do well.
Glenn Roeder and Norwich are of course interested in Shola, but we’re not sure Norwich have the cash.
We’ll just have to see what happens but we’d be happier if Shola moves sooner, rather than later.
Comments welcome.

If he knows what’s good for him he’ll get this sorted. This time next year he’s out of contract and he’ll be gone anyway. A year in the wilderness will do him no favours and could end up with nish and at a struggling championship side!

feck off shola
3 Davies // Jun 13, 2008 at 17:15
D’ya reckon he still thinks he’s premier league material?

5 figsdad // Jun 13, 2008 at 17:15
he will sit on the bench for 12 more months picking up his wages
come on mike get rid of him he’s not good enough…

He never bloody was Premiership standard.
Shola is a testatment to what having a world class physical striker and a couple of quick creative midfield players can do for a team.
7 Davies // Jun 13, 2008 at 17:25
I’m getting bored with this saga now. Surely he must know that he’s surplus to requirements. Everybody else does, and the only people even vaguely interested are in the championship. He should have stuck with Stoke when he had the chance.
Don’t know why he never lived up to the obvious talent he had six or seven years ago. Shame really.

Davies my friend …as I just said, his quality hasn’t changed one bit over the last 7 years, just the quality of the team around him.
9 Gateshead Mag. // Jun 13, 2008 at 17:30
:S He’s rubbish. Don’t understand why he doesn’t just leave?

This guy is nothing but a pain in the arse, may it was to good to be true that we could get 3.5m for him he has to go even if we give him away !!!!!!!!!!!
11 Geordie Gerrard7 // Jun 13, 2008 at 17:33
that rat is a very good player, im really enjoying this game, i am really impressed with the romanians
12 Gateshead Mag. // Jun 13, 2008 at 17:33
I reckon 6 years ago he was decent to be fair to the lad. Scoring in the Champions League and that. He was banging them in for the Under 21’s for ages.
Not a very good player at all now though.
13 Gateshead Mag. // Jun 13, 2008 at 17:37
I remember one of my mates saying watch out for Rat at LB for the romanians. He looks a brilliant player. Anyone got any info on him?

Sholas looking after number one and who can blame him.
He may end up hurting himself and the club by hanging around another 12 mths.
But just goes to show what happens when you pay average players above average wages, well done Ashley for trying to address this. Once your established at the club then get a wage rise.
17 Gateshead Mag. // Jun 13, 2008 at 17:48
Niculae or something upfront is canny good aswell like.
18 Danny // Jun 13, 2008 at 17:56
I wish he would just disappear…This club doesn’t need or want him!
Its a dog eat dog world out there…cancel his bloody contract if he wont join anyone else! We have no obligation to keep him just because hes local!

must say tom toon, nicolita is looking good
26 Steeley // Jun 13, 2008 at 18:42
In all honesty, if Norwich cant afford the fee then I say let them have him for £2m! There’s no way I want that waster warming the bench (and the Reserve bench at that probably) on his salary and then to go for nowt next summer when his contract is up.
27 mikeygd // Jun 13, 2008 at 18:49
I got a white van and a friend who wouldn’t mind helping me kidnap him and taking him personally to ipshwich to get signed for them.
Any1 no his address?
28 scott9 // Jun 13, 2008 at 18:56
bad mistake i think ipswitch luked gud this season i dnt no if he can do much better if im honmest
29 xfer // Jun 13, 2008 at 19:01
Well, if he wants to improve, he needs a move, unless he feels happy getting the wages without playing, then he is hopeless.
30 ToonKing // Jun 13, 2008 at 19:40
here here lads, believe me, Niculae is rubbish, Niculita is a joke, he is being ridiculed in the press and Rat is decent but not up to our standards.
31 Bill F SPLASH THE CASH ASH // Jun 13, 2008 at 19:59
Some of the Italians looked good as well, mind you we probably have no chance of getting any of them. De Rossi, Camoranasi, Pirlo, Toni, to name but a few. On the Romanian side their giant defender Goia (something like that) looked a good un.
32 Tom_Toon // Jun 13, 2008 at 20:04
Nicolit looked good today and in the champions league, dont watch him in the league but a fair few romanians have been saying his average performances in the league have been poor for the past1 and a half seasons.
Goian is good in the air but looks a bit clumbsy on the ground i thought. Thought Tamas was the better defender and would be much cheaper (im talking his price would be in the hundred k’s) whilst Goian would be abou 4 mil.
33 Bill F SPLASH THE CASH ASH // Jun 13, 2008 at 20:10
I thought they both had decent games against a lively Italian attack but if Tamas could be got that cheaply, we probably wouldn’t get him anyway, the way things are going at present.
34 oga // Jun 13, 2008 at 20:23
Taylor produced nothing last season
35 nightfall // Jun 13, 2008 at 20:24
say whatever you want…shola is still 10 times better then smith!!!
36 brad // Jun 13, 2008 at 20:38
shola is poo. get rid of; barton, shola, smith, duff, owen, geremi, viduka. realisticly sign; gardner, dawson, bullard, murphy, samaras and we should keep our premiership status!
37 Leo // Jun 13, 2008 at 21:00
he obviously doesnt really love the club as much as money
38 GSfan // Jun 13, 2008 at 21:07
lol is this Tamas you speaking of, Gabriel Tamas? believe me you guys DON’T want tamas. We had him for a good while… at least it felt like forever. Gawd he messed our defense up real bad. After he got humiliated by Nihat in a Champion’s League group match we just told him “alright that’s enough, go find yourself another club”.
I really really really wouldn’t rate him. This guy is as inconsistent as defenders get.
39 true // Jun 13, 2008 at 21:48
greedy bugger, he is gooing down in my estimation, typical pre-ma-dona
shola you are championhip quality at best dont have delusions of grandua, just go whilst you have some dignity.
40 Tom_Toon // Jun 13, 2008 at 22:07
GSfan you also hd Ovidiu Petre when he was young and he turned out to be a very good player.
41 ToonKing // Jun 13, 2008 at 22:20
told you Tom_Toon that Goian is crap on the ground, he can’t tackle to save his life, he just gets a bunch of yellows and that’s it.
Nicolita is the romanian version of a poor Milner. In the first game he ran around 14 km whit out any end product, can’t cross, can’t pass, can’t shoot. ’nuff said.
42 Tom_Toon // Jun 13, 2008 at 22:24
Thats actually what a romanian i was talking to said to me, i said i support newcastle then asked him about nicolita, he said he was a poor man’s milner. But in my defence i only ever said ive seen him in the CL and he looked decent in that.
43 GSfan // Jun 14, 2008 at 0:13
No Tom_Toon, Petre was ‘decent’. He wasn’t anything special back then and he still ain’t anything special right now imho. If he was any good he would have at least made it to the Euro 2008 Romanian squad as well I’d say rather than some of the rubbish they have in midfield (Maybe he’s injured or something, not sure). Nicolita isn’t anything special for example. Tamas on the other hand… when I hear his name I shiver. Don’t say I didn’t warn you if he does come to you guys!
44 Tom_Toon // Jun 14, 2008 at 0:33
He wont, but im saying he looked good in the games he’s played.
Petre was injured thats why he wasnt in the squad because he would have started if he wasnt.
45 Toooooooooooooooooon // Jun 14, 2008 at 0:36
Rat for romania is one good player. i always bought him in football manager for newcastle!
